Review Southside Diner - Greensboro

Try the chicken and waffles! The chicken is prepared really well. It is a crunchy and juicy cutlet. The waffle is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was delicious. They topped it with bacon and lot of powdered sugar (too much). It was so good. I'd get it again. Next time I visit I'll probably get a different breakfast entree. They have a large selection of menu items!

My wife and I decided to try this place out today for lunch. I'll start with the only positives before moving into everything else. The inside looks pretty nice. Lots of open space and good choices of color. But that is where the positives end I'm afraid. We were asked to find ourselves a seat and someone would be right with us. This is completely normal for a diner type atmosphere, so we found ourselves a seat and waited for a server. And waited. Keep in mind that there were maybe 8 other people in the restaurant total, most of which were at one table. After about 5-10 minutes of sitting there watching as the 2-3 servers walked around, not even looking at us, someone finally came and handed off the menus. The server took our drink orders (I got a coffee and my wife got an orange juice) and we began reviewing the menu. Pretty standard country food items, and not overly priced at first glance unless you spend much time eating at practically any other country diner. The server returns with our drinks and walks away after confirming my wife isn't quite sure what she wants yet. Which is when I notice my mug isn't even half full of coffee. I decide to brush it off and think maybe I look like a guy who uses a lot of creamer. But I wasn't brought any creamer. Or a spoon. Or anything typically associated with having/preparing coffee for consumption. I motion the server, request those things, and they are brought out to me about 5 minutes later. All that time I can see into the kitchen. I can see the server joking around with the cooking staff instead of bringing me the items I needed. All while I sit here with my mug half full of coffee that is getting colder and colder. Little did I know the mug being half full was a blessing in disguise because after finally getting the things I needed, the coffee tasted as if it was made several hours before. We order our food. My wife gets the 3 Egg Platter and I get the Country Fried Steak. We sit. Our food takes about 20 minutes to come out despite us being the only people in the restaurant that didn't already have their food at the time of us ordering. The food is dropped off and the server quickly steps away without asking if we needed anything. Which we did. Because we were never brought silverware outside of the spoon I had to ask for for my coffee. We motion the server again and ask for the silverware we need to eat our food. Which, not surprisingly anymore, takes another 2 minutes. Because another fun conversation with the kitchen staff was necessary to grab our silverware that was located by the entrance to the kitchen. Approximately 10ft from where we were sitting. I'll leave out the specific details of why the food itself wasn't satisfying because everyone has different tastes, but I will say the only passable food items consumed by us were my wife's bacon and my country fried steak. Which, by the way, was the smallest country fried steak I had ever received at a restaurant. For about $3 more than I would have expected to pay. To anyone reading this that had a very different experience: good for you. I can hope within myself that this was simply a bad day and that this restaurant is usually better than this. But I'm not willing to risk giving them another try. EDIT: My wife has read this and wanted me to add something she noticed that I did not. There is no music or anything. That's not typically something I would notice, which is why I didn't note it already, but in an open space that isn't being filled with people, that level of silence was eerie to her.

Had breakfast there. The best chicken and waffles I've ever had. Very nice and clean place. Extremely friendly staff. We will be back many times

When down town Greensboro has big events, this business needs to plan better or be closed. Waited well over an hour for food to come from the kitchen, when it did it was cold. There were over 50 people who left because the staff couldn't keep up. Several times people asked for tha manager and he wouldn't even come out to speak to the customers. If this place is around for 6 months I'll be socked. First time there and won't be going back.

Delicious! Had the grilled cheese w/ bacon, tomato, gruyere on sourdough. Super reasonable prices, too. Just here visiting, but would definitely go back.

Went in after 2pm on a saturday. My friend and I were the only customers. Coffee tasted old and bitter. Almost every side we ordered waitress said they were out of. After waiting at least 30 min waitress comes to tell us they dont have fries. This was just ridiculous so we just got up and left. PLEASE CLOSE THIS PLACE DOWN AND DO EVERYONE A FAVOR.

Went about 11 30 and were the only customers (5 of us). We finally ordered after about 10 minutes. Waited about 35 minutes and 3 of the 5 orders were wrong. All were cold even after sending 3 back. Took another 5 minutes to get silverware. Only 2 people were working. This is a beautiful location. I hope they get their act together.
