Review Village Inn Pizza - Grand Rapids

Erin Farias
I have been coming here for years and the vibes are oh so good. The restaurant does an excellent job of adding to their scrumptious menu regularly. Their famous balls (of meat) are a longtime favorite of mine. I especially crave this heartiness as the weather shifts. I was delighted to see the new special “bread sack of balls” on the menu. Imagine the best meatball sub you’ve ever had and turn it inside out and then feed it a Mario Mushroom. The homemade bread balls are filled with perfectly seasoned balls and slow simmered magic marinera. Smother with cheese if you dare or keep it simple. My mouth is messy at the aftermath and I have absolutely zero regrets. Come and get it while supplies last!

Haven't been here in a while. We ordered subs and our server was also our bartender, Sarah G. Not only was the food great, but the service was top notch. Sarah spent time with each table and made us feel welcome appreciated. Thanks, Sarah G! We'll be back soon.

It is tough to find good wings in Grand Rapids, but this place has become one of my favorites. This establishment is a good place to watch a game and have some pizza and a beer without emptying your pockets. Village Inn has proven to be a great local watering hole for Kentwood and Southeast GR residents with good pizza, good service, and good vibes. If I had to offer some suggestions for improvement, I would say that they should stop having live music. The restaurant is just too small to have a band play, as you are not able to talk to your party or other patrons and servers over the loudness of the music. Keep it classy Village Inn!

My wife and visit the Village Inn twice a week and they always have great service. We typically grab a seat at the bar and have a drink with dinner. The staff is super courteous and most of them will remember your order from the previous visit. Their pizza and subs are out of this world amazing! I recommend the Village inn to all of my friends!

The food was delicious. I ordered the Supreme pizza and a half cheese, half pepperoni pizza. I was in & out. I didn't really absorb the atmosphere, but I heard that they do karaoke on certain days! I will be back!

Ordered food to go for the first time Friday 10/8 around 8 pm. The description of the California chicken sandwich was more appetizing than the actual sandwich. The sandwich was good but nothing amazing. The sandwich was big. The bread was soft and seemed it be toasted with butter. The chicken was a real white meat breast. My sandwich had 4 small slices of avocado. I wished it had more avocado and bacon given how big the bun and chicken breast were. The sandwich had a roasted red pepper Mayo and pepper jack cheese but the flavor was very mild. It had a good amount of sauce and cheese though. The seasoned fries were good. It was easy or order over the phone. The food was ready in about 20 minutes and it was hot (temperature wise) as it was cooked to order. The prices are affordable. 4/5 stars for the entire experience.

Very Very disappointed in the quality of food. We ordered a small pizza, double pepperoni, double cheese. We should have looked at before we left. It ended up the garbage after the first Bite. We used to love their pizza, but it has gone really downhill in the last year. I would be ashamed to sell pizza to customers if I worked there.

Excelente ambiance during a Michigan game. Great food. specially the bone-chicken wings and they have one of the biggest TV screens I have seen in Grand Rapids, Wyoming and Kentwood cities. Try it! Support this great restaurant/bars that have been part of Kentwood for a long time. I have to repeat, great size TV screens for sport games.

Village Inn has some of the best staff in Grand Rapids. From the second you walk in, to exiting the building, the service is amazing. If I’m in the area and need food, this is my go-to spot. The food is great and comes out in a reasonable time. For lunches during the week, they have an express menu and sometimes a pizza buffet for quick stops. Highly recommended!

Just thought it was time I write a review of this place: 1. Absolutely PHENOMENAL food! I have yet to taste something I dislike. Everything has been cooked to absolute perfection so I would like to give some mad kudos to the cooks in back because I crave those cheese curds and fries in my dreams! You can just tell most everything is made with love! 2. AMAZING service! I have yet to dine in, I usually only have time for take-out, but they really take great care of you and any customizations you wish for. For instance, I really wanted ketchup & mustard on my burger and they put it RIGHT ON MY BURGER! Not on the side like other lazier places. 3. You just gotta try that Carolina sauce and those cheese curds. They are to DIE FOR! (The mac & cheese pizza is pretty amazing too) All in all, a place I will definitely keep coming back to! Thank you so much to all of you that work so hard to make such amazing food and make such a friendly environment to walk into!

I loved the pizza's. The taco pizza is BOMB. I wish they had a family sized salad for takeout though. We ordered the extra large and it barely filled 3 small bowls. On the nachos and wet burrito, the cheese is either not melted or barely melted. I would recommend using in-house grated block cheese. The pre-shredded cheese has potato starch on it to keep it sticking to itself. It also makes the cheese not melt very well. Its a small issue, but an important one. I'm sad that a family restaurant with great pizza turned into an almost full purpose bar. The pizza is still amazing though. Thank you for your time!!!

We went specifically for the music! We saw Dueling Pianos with Denny Middleton, and Greg Poltrock. We enjoyed our blackberry cider very much as an alternative to the Founders Cherise, which V.I. was out of. Our food was good. We each had chicken casadias minus onions. The lettuce and black olives were on the side with sour cream, which is what I prefer!

Love the staff here. Great happy hour deals and the quality of the meals are consistent.

Good is delicious! The pizza ingredients are so fresh! The atmosphere is fun, and there are so many TV's, no matter what game you're watching it'll be on!

Not what I wanted. I went there on a friday night at 6. We were told when we entered that it would be 25 minutes for a table for two. I noticed that they took 4 single tables and put them together for a group of 10 and it was empty. After 45 minutes a group of 5 walked in and she sat them right away. we asked why they got a table right away and she said that it was a table for 5. It seems they only have tables for groups of people not couples. I only satisfaction i got out of going there is when a table did open up, they figured out someone had taken off without paying the bill. Yes they moved that table by another one and had a group of 7 sitting there. NEVER AGAIN VILLAGE INN.

The owners have done a great job with the remodel and they are now catering to a younger, sports-enthused and beer-knowledgable crowd. They have a wide variety of beers on tap as well ad awesome pizza and nachos (salads are good too!). This is a favorite local spot to meet up with friends when we want to avoid the downtown buzz.

Death of a Family Dining Icon. The death of a family icon.
We've been going to the Village Inn for years and we are sad to report that the old place is now gone.

Gone is the family friendly atmosphere, a place to take your kids and enjoy their company and FAMILY time.

Some pluses and minuses.

Plus- they have remodeled. It is wonderful how they have opened the place up and made it feel a lot more modern.
Minus- it feels like every square inch is now filled with TV screens. Gone is the family atmosphere in lieu of a sports bar.

Plus- the pizza is still the same- fantastic.
Minus- You can't enjoy it because they have the SPORTS up so loud you can't carry on any kind of a conversation.

When I say it is loud in there I am not kidding. It is obnoxiously loud, you can't talk or hear anyone besides the TVs and the people hooting and hollering because some overpaid sports team just made a shot.

They are trying to get money from travelers and entice them in to this place by telling them to stop in for a drink before their flight.

Well, their drinks are overpriced for bottom shelf CRAP.

The waitress was fine and friendly- until I returned the overpriced drink that was only HALF full.
Then she made herself scarce until we wanted our bill.

All in all I was very sad throughout the whole meal thinking about how this iconic family dining establishment has been transformed into nothing more than an over priced sports bar.

That being said, I am sure they are thriving. But in this family's dining experience, it is a place to avoid like the plague.

The ONLY reason I gave it even two stars was because the food was really good, except the spaghetti dinner my son had said it came with a salad and she never asked or brought it. But it just served as a reminder of all that has been lost in this change.

Good-bye to an old friend. We are truly sad to see you go.

Great Food !. I love this place. I used to eat there before they remodeled once in awhile, now I am there once per week, sometimes to sit at the bar and sometimes with the family at a big round table.

The place is full of TV's and really really big screens, they have to be the largest in the city , wood floors, and comfortable seating.

The mix of people are from the 20's to 60 and 70
depends on the night.

We usually go for Thursday nights for half off Martini's and different food each time
they have awesome pizza, had the deep dish and the thinner crust.
I have had their Burgers, Burritos and their Cherry chicken salads, all excellent.

The staff is friendly and willing to please.
The sound is rich and high end , the music is great
but does not blast you out of there
all of these things keep me coming back

Nachos are so good and a great deal money wise. Service can be slow but the food is really good. When you can't decide where to eat, come here because they have everything!

Great Place. I have been there for lunch and dinner and the food quality is always good. Great staff, drinks and specials. They have an all you can eat pizza buffet for lunch and dinner for 5.99
you can't beat that.

My favorite is their Deep Dish Pizza not on the buffet but worth the wait.

Ordered delivery of spaghetti. It was ok for a working lunch, but not for dinner.
