What can I say.... wow....
Eating is one of my favorite hobbies, and I absolutely love foods from different regions. Tonight's menu: Bosnian. What a crossroads of cultures. Originally, I was craving German food, Jagerschnitzel to be exact. I turned to Yelp, entered "German Food", and Bosna came up in the hit. Mediterranean.... German.... made sense to me, I guess.
I pull up to the unassuming building, and entered... warm, rich wood gives it a very comforting feel. Reading the menu before I came in, I already knew what I wanted... the "Jaegur". Never had anything like it before, so, why not... Boy, am I glad I did. If Jagerschnitzel and a Gyro had a baby, It would be the Jaegur, in the shape of a Mexican Torta. Tender, thinly sliced souvlaki, tossed with Jager sauce, piled high on what appears to be a Bosnian ciabatta style bread, thin crust and tender crumb. One bite, and you can taste the regional influences... To the south of Bosnia, you have Greece and Turkey. To the north, you have Austria and Germany. They all came together in a sandwich. Absolutely delicious, and extremely unique.
For a "side dish", I ordered their "Fried Feta Cheese Balls". Another simply amazing dish. If you've never had "Eastern European" Feta, it's a bit different than your traditional "Greek" style feta. Being fried, the composition changes... it was *almost* as salty as Nabulsi cheese, yet creamy and rich like French Brie, yet fluffy like Marscapone. Served with a Marinara sauce, where you can taste the Italian influence from right across the Adriatic Sea. The saltiness of the cheese balanced extremely well with the sweetness of the the tomato and basil of the sauce. The spices, though... still trying to pinpoint the mix... it's different... but delightful.
Bosna has been bookmarked. I will most definitely return here next time I'm in town. If you're just getting into town, make Bosna a destination. Make your meal complete with a cold glass of Bosnian beer... ;-)
I adore the food at this place. The burek (pita pita) is out of this world!! It's my go to place when asked "where do you want to go to eat"
Amazing service , super friendly and welcoming experience. The atmosphere was kinda slow and quiet . The food was delicious , I had the three cheese gyro and the spicy feta sauce on the side , it was amazing. Highly recommended I went there around 12:30 and by 1 I was out , pretty quick service for hot made to order food
Highly recommend! My husband and I went here for lunch and absolutely loved it. The food was incredible, friendly staff, and clean restaurant. Get the whipped spinach feta dip, you won’t regret it! We also really loved our gyros.
One of the best Greek salads I have ever had! The gyro meat was phenomenal. They used artisan lettuce. Tzikki sauce made the perfect dressing. They were short on staff so it took awhile but the wait was worth it.
First time guest today. With the name "Express" I expected a fast-food experience. But I was pleasantly surprised to find a great restaurant all around. The gyro was the best, especially with the fresh baked bread. This place should be tried by anyone looking for a European experience.
OH MY GOODNESS YUM! Yes, you will for sure like this place! It will become a new favorite! They’ve been around for twenty years and there’s a reason they survived when others closed in the last few years! Truly wonderful service and delicious food.
The pillowy soft fresh baked bread is amazing. The meat is so flavorful and tender. The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and welcoming. I noticed people from at least five different ethnicities dining here (which I love). It’s the type of food that everyone can enjoy. They worked with my diet restrictions easily and accommodated graciously.
Restrooms are clean.
Going back asap! This place is now our new favorite restaurant!
Surprisingly best burgers I have had in the Grand Rapids area. Also, their gyros are served in a unique bun (not a pita,) that's tastes amazing together.
The only issue I have with this place is the service can be a kind of slow. That being said, staff is always friendly and welcoming.
I would still recommend this place for great food, just don't come in if you are on a tight schedule.
One of my favorite restaurants in the city. The OG gyro here is simply unbelievable. The tzatziki sauce is amazing. I don't think it's a stretch to say it's perfect. Their fries are also fantastic. They redid the inside some time ago and it's very clean and inviting and comfortable.
Everything we ordered was delicious-cevapi and beef stroganoff. The side salad was very substantial and loved all the veggies in it! Very nice waitress as well
We really enjoyed this little hidden gem. The food is like going to another country. We got the feta fried shrooms as an appetizer and split the grill platter. The kajmak that comes with the platter was a delightful dipping sauce we never had before. Prices are reasonable and service was friendly.
We tried some baklava and found it about the best we'd ever had. Our waitress said her grandmother made it.
Delightful piano show tune music made the atmosphere feel elegant.
We were a little disappointed that our appetizer came at the same time as our dinner and both took over half an hour.
Bosna Express serves a solid gyro salad. It's my goto! I wish they had olives. One can only dream. I've had the gyro sandwich as well. It's very good. A gut bomb. The service is always fast and friendly.
