Review Cinco De Mayo - Grand Rapids

K D (Cal)
Really nice menu with ton of options. Drink menu was extensive and reasonably priced. Tried Sangria which came in huge glass. No complaints there. Salsa was spiced perfectly. Cheese dip tasted just like Mexican cheese and not like the cheap plastic dip taste. Guacamole was a little creamier to my taste I prefer mine a little chunkier but was fresh and tasty. Had steak tacos and chorizo for dinner. Both entrees were really excellent. I am a big fan of Chorizo when it is cooked crispy and served with Soft Corn Tacos, and this place did just that. Weather was great, and we sat outside. It's a really nice atmosphere, by the street, some folks had their dogs with them. Inside seating is really cool with local decor. I will post pics of that next time we visit. Service was attentive but not overburdening. Parking on Saturday could be a hassle, I recommend dropping your party and finding a parking space and strolling to the restaurant. Make sure to pay for the parking if you parked where the meters exist, I have seen several cars with parking tickets on their windshield. Can't wait to get back to check out other menu items.

Very fun and tasty Mexican restaurant in the downtown business district. Friendly service. S menu with lots of variety. Can handle large groups. Small bar in back. I always get the steak fajitas.

I have been visiting this establishment since before 2019. They have awesome customer service skills. The restaurant is always clean. Certain days have different drink specials. They serve lunch and dinner. Their menu is huge. They even offer small meals for those who have picky kids like mine. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Mexican cuisine. Thank you Cinco De Mayo for all your service.

Super fast service! And DELICIOUS food! They had good vegetarian options, I loved the mushroom quesadilla. The shrimp was also very flavorful

Outstanding! The Jalisco was perfection, equally parts smoky, spicy, and creamy with enough left over for a generous lunch tomorrow. Our waitress was kindness itself, even going so far as to dive under the table to rescue my husband's cane when it fell. The food was delivered in a blink and our waitress checked back at appropriate intervals to attend to our needs. The atmosphere on this night was quite rowdy with a party of excited young people expressing themselves in stadium-sized voices but the whimsically decorated tall partitions on the booths gave enough separation from the bedlam to make the atmosphere tolerable for this pair of grandparents. We'll be happy to return.

Southwest chimichanga - incredible. Enchiladas verdes - also incredible. Salsa - fresh and perfectly seasoned, not spicy, which is my preference with salsa. Service was excellente as was the atmosphere. Reasonably priced. My new favorite Mexican Restaurant in GR.

We had such a great time. Delicious food, great prices, and ohmygosh....what a sweet waitress. Amazing service. She was always checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for the great experience!

Quality Mexican food! Chimichanga and chicken burrito were excellent 👍 midday visit so wasn't busy. Fills up in the evening. Complementary chips and salsa but I recommend ordering the cheese too. 🤤

Their food is great. It's seasoned to perfection. They did get our orders mixed up, and for that, I dropped down one star. The atmosphere was good, basically what you can expect from a Mexican restaurant.

Good was great. It took about 15 min for a server to get our drink order when we got there. They brought our chips and salsa but barely gave us any salsa then they charge $1.49 for more.

My new favorite. I brought my mother here for lunch today, the service and food were nothing less than five stars. Beautiful atmosphere too.

Rude staff. Wouldn't give us the table we wanted (they were dead and had no reason to deny) then as we sat and ate, the same rude staff that greeted us actually disrespected other guests good enough to make what seemed like a friendly older couple storm out and openly criticize the staffs attitude problem.

Hidden gem in plain sight.. I went in for lunch on a friday. I was greeted immediately by friendly staff, and shown to a comfortable booth. My first impression was; what a great atmosphere to unwind and relax during lunch. It was steadily busy, but quiet. A welcome change from other crowded and noisy places nearby. The food is better than I expected. Whenever you see a numbered menu, it's kind of a gamble. But cinco impressed, good food and good value. Beware the negative reviews, those people must be jerks. I'm coming back, probably many times. Thanks Cinco, don't go changing!

A hidden gem in plain sight. Went in for lunch on Friday at noon. All the other restaurants are crowded and noisy at that time, but cinco is quiet and comfortable. A great atmosphere to relax during the lunch hour. Contrary to other reviews, the staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and hard working. I will come back, I suspect many many more times. If you haven't been in, DO IT.

Tostitos and salsa no big deal. This was one of the few restaurants open on a Sunday and we were staying downtown so my husband and I decided to try it. Immediately chips and salsa are served while you await your drink order. The salsa was tasty, but waaaay too liquidy and hard to eat. It dripped each and every time before you got it to your mouth. And the chips were tasteless.

We shared the steak fajitas for two. We were given ample food, but only 3 small wraps each. I suspect they want you to order more and pay for them. The steak was over cooked, but with all the toppings it was delicious.

Worst service in town. Horribly rude waitress, never said ONE word to us, just set everything down and walked away. Extremely overpriced. 12.99 for a 3 taco meal? Stay away. Tacos El Cunada in the Downtown Market has the best authentic tacos in town. Don't waste your time here.

I went to the one on Alpine. I eat Mexican atleast once a week all over the country. I liked the a Taco de Carne Asada. I had a Taco al Pastor as well, wasn't horrible, but would reckoned the other. All and all pretty good place

Terrible service, overpriced menu, very bland! Tacos are literally ground need, a few bit of lettuce and cheese is a hard shell. Don't waste your time.

Terrible Service. I can't begin to emphasize how bad the service is at this place. It takes time to be seated, 15 minutes to order food from the wait staff and they charge you another $1.50 for chips and salsa. Will not come back. Highly recommend spending your money somewhere else.

Took a little while to be greeted after we were seated. They were not real busy. After that waitress was great.

Very disappointed as we had read other good reviews and were excited to try this place. We ate there tonight and had terrible service and lackluster food. It was a lot of food, but not very good. Definitely will not return.

Never again. This place uses only processed cheese in their menu items and their "Sangria" was nothing but cheap wine and canned fruit cocktail. Yuck! The Guacamole was decent, but the prices and lack of quality otherwise will not entice me to go back.

Poor food /service. Food was poor, mediocre at best.. Service poor. Drinks good. Group of 10 and everyone said drinks were good, especially the margaritas, but no one had a good meal.

I am not getting a very good first impression of your resturant..went to home page to check out the menu..clicked on menu review tab and it brings me to your facebook page with no menu review in sight...I am hoping your resturant is better than your web design

Disappointing Service & Overpriced. We have been to this restaurant many times not because the food is out of this world but because they can accomodate a 6-10 top easily and is rarely busy. Tonight the waitstaff was especially lifeless but did get all of the food and drinks out in a timely manner. Our needs were met although the corn tortillas had been in the warmer so long that they were crispy and fused together on one side. The problem arose when the checks arrived and they were trying to charge $13.99 for a 27oz. sangria margarita.Well the table of 8 had ordered many of these so the checks was astronomical. The menu says that margaritas are $9.99. When questioned, she gathers all the checks and walks away WITHOUT an apology. She comes back with new checks charging $11.99 because the sangria is a $2 upcharge on the regular margarita. This is not indicated on the menu nor was it mentioned when orders were placed. Sadly, this is the end of a long dining relationship - the food prices were inching up a little to high anyway compared to their competition. The fact that neither the manager or the waitstaff apologized for the initial incorrect charge or apologized for not communicating the $2 upcharge is unacceptable. Now we understand why there were only two other tables in use from 7-10 tonight. I think the word is out but we were the last to know it.

So delicious! With age I have become harder to please but this place is so flavorful with a huge menu of choices. I had combo and enjoyed the pork tamale and chimichanga with beef. Salsa was very fresh. Great service too. Highly recommend.

What Service??. Having just moved to GR a few months ago, we have been looking forward to trying different places.
Went in here today for lunch with my wife & son. Got seated pretty quickly with basically no welcome from 2 people at the host stand. Server took forever to bring waters & a soda for my son. Having asked our server where the restrooms were located, my wife took our 3yr old down stairs. Our server then asked me 3 times if we were ready to order before they returned to the table. My wife hadn't even looked at the menu at this point.
We both ordered a Burrito. Food came out quickly but we were ignored by any member of staff after we placed our order. Our server got a 10-top right next to us & ignored us while she served them. No one asked if our food was good, no refills offered, no offer of dessert. Shockingly bad. Our server just dropped a check on the table, no thank you or have a good day - nothing.
Food was tasteless, overpowered by the sauce & not seasoned at all. For $12 it definitely was overpriced for what we ordered. There was supposed to be chicken, beef & Chorizo in the meal. I think it was just passed by the Chorizo to try & put a flavor on it. Beef & chicken were over cooked. We might try the bar some time but not somewhere we will be returning to eat.
Worst service I have received since moving to GR. I have worked in the bar/restaurant business for over 20 years & this was probably the worst service I've had in many years.

Why would you wait to eat here. . .. When you can walk down the block on Division and get some of the best authentic Mexican food in town?

Lunch specials really get you a bang for your buck! Food is good and extremely fast but service is not always the best.

Consistently Good. Cinco de Mayo is always an enjoyable dining experience. The tortillas and salsa that come with every meal are a nice treat, and are promptly replaced if they run dry. And the service ... oh the service. It is fantastic. The restaurant can be packed with diners with a wait to get in, and still the food comes out in only a few minutes. Any your drinks? They just won't run dry because you'll always get more. At least in my experience. You can't beat that.

If you want to mix it up a little, just get the daily lunch special, which is a great deal. The regular menu prices are perhaps a little high, but with the quantity of food you get, usually topped with fresh veggies, it's still a decent value. As for the food itself, I find it quite flavorful, and not overbearingly hot or spicy. Not every dish has been great, but absolutely none have been bad, and that's saying something over dozens of visits.

Margaritas were awful and syrupy, meat was gross and there was gristle in the burrito. Taco meat was very watery, like cafeteria food. Nothing about this place was authentic, except for maybe the chips and salsa, which were very good.

Mediocre food, but very fast service.

A chimi dinner out in 5 minutes? Can you say El Burrito? Similar taste, quality and over priced.

Opening some months ago, the restaurant occupies the old Herkner Jewelry store (which moved to the suburbs after a shooting incident involving the owner taking a few shots at a fleeing robber in broad daylight, but that's another story). The space is a no
