How many times do you get to eat in the basement of an old converted Hospital? This place is awesomely cool... Quaint, romantic, hip... And the food?? Let’s just say that upstairs has some of the best cooking equipment available, while downstairs, somebody knows how to use it.
The German Sampler plate was “Sehr, Sehr Gut!!!”
The staff was extremely friendly, and a harpist for atmosphere.
This is a small town restaurant with big time appeal.
Well...I have never eaten anything I didn't love...have to say breakfast is kinda a must and a fave! Just a great place with some unexpected surprises on the menu!
Great place with a laid back vibe. But the food is anything but. Well prepared and presented. I highly recommend the salmon. I’ll stop in anytime I am heading through Fredericksburg
We very much enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere of a basement restaurant (rare anywhere south of the Mason and Dixon Line) :-). Highly recommend. It's a bit sparse but makes up for it with quality food and excellent service. Only wish is beer on tap as opposed to only bottles.
We came for breakfast. The coffee was perfect, and I recommend the biscuits and sausage gravy. We also shared and enjoyed the hill country beignets with raspberry jam.
Had a terrific dinner at Rathskeller this past Sunday night. I had the Chicken fried chicken with cheddar mash potatoes with corn. $12.99 . It was fabulous!
I also hd their house white wine - 5.99 a glass. very very good!
I highly recommend this restaurant. Great atmosphere and very very nice staff!
The food was amazing! Had three courses of wonderful German food. Would def recommend.
One of the best breakfasts in Fredericksburg! The service is exceptional, menu is great and the prices are reasonable! If you are looking for a true German style breakfast… This may not be your place, but you do not want to miss it on your trip to Fredericksburg!
What an awesome place to eat. I've eaten here for breakfasts and lunches. They are really good and I'll come back again.
Awesome food!! The Pecan Crusted Chicken was amazing & we loved their breakfast!!
Food and service was excellent! The history of the place is interesting. Liked the Basement setting.
I thought the food was solid. I was surprised they didn’t have higher ratings. Definitely recommend the bacon wrapped filet, the sausage plate is alright. But the cheddar mashed potato and green beans were phenomenal…like WOW. And the staff were cheerful and kind despite being super busy
Perfect experience - simple and rustic ambience with helpful staff, paid attention to details about the food and the salads we ordered were amazing and fresh, chicken cooked to perfection.
Would surely recommend this place.
We wantes to stop and try something new.The food was beyond amazing. We all tried something different from the German menu it was all fantastic. Our waitress Amilia was super sweet explained each dish to us. Was very kind. The service was absolutely top notch. Food arrived very quickly.
Fantastic German food tucked away in a basement. The German sampler platter was incredible (and great for Keto people). The peach bread pudding was equally amazing, but not so keto-friendly! 😉
Rathskeller does not disappoint on the food whatsoever, but it is the setting and ambiance that makes it a one-of-a-kind experience in an already story-rich, historic setting!
The Rathskeller is located in the basement morgue of the old Keidel Hospital which was built in the 1800’s.
The Jaeger Schnitzel was prepared to perfection. The Peach Bread Pudding is one of the best kept secrets in all of Fredericksburg! This desert alone is worth the descent into The Rathskeller!
