An A++ bake shop to get your Asian-inspired birthday cakes and cupcakes. Their desserts are pretty and not too sweet, so they are a big hit within the Asian family. I love inventive flavors, so ordered a good portion of Silk Cakes’ menu to try:
Cake:
- Ube (Purple Yam) cake with coconut whipped cream (it’s vegan).
Best eaten in room temperature (take out a half an hour before for an optimal experience)
6” for $28
8” for $44
10” for $55
12” for $95
14” for $150
Cupcakes: $3.50 each
- Yuzu (Japanese Lemon) cupcake with strawberry buttercream & nama green tea filling
- Hong Kong milk tea cupcake with coffee buttercream (seasonal)
- Chocolate cupcake with green tea buttercream & nama chocolate filling
- Thai Tea cupcake with condensed milk buttercream & nama white chocolate filling
[Nama: Japanese ‘melt in your mouth’ chocolate]
I was most excited to try the Thai Tea cupcake because it’s my favorite iced drink and ice cream flavor. The Thai tea was pretty subtle in tea taste, but I still enjoyed the cupcake. I recommend the other flavors a lot more! Had a really difficult time deciding which one was my favorite and still couldn’t choose at the end of devouring them. You really cannot go wrong with any of the flavors offered at Silk Cakes.
Other menu items/desserts sold at Silk Cakes:
- Cake slice $5.50 each
- Mini circular cakes $8 each
- Milk buns $2.50 each
- Hot or iced coffee ranging between $2.50-4
- Hot tea $2 (small), $2.50 (large)
Inside of Silk Cakes, it is clean and quiet, with one table and about 7-8 stools to sit on while you wait for your order. I will definitely come back from time to time to try their unique seasonal flavors and order more birthday cakes!
P.S. So many cute Food Baby pics! It’s their favorite place to order a customized birthday cake for Matty, Sammy, and Nicky. I had a fun time looking through the Yelp gallery to see the exquisite cake creations by Judy Lai

I love their cupcakes and cake! Only visited once so far but am sure to visit more often now. The flavors are unique. Had a mini cupcake tasting with 6 flavors, the yuzu with strawberry frosting was the winner. Strawberry Chantilly cake was really good as well. It really does meet the Asian-American cake scene very well.

Silk cake is one of my top favorite bakeries to pick up a delicious dessert in Queens. The owners and their staff are always hard at work to create the next delicious and unique combination of cake and frosting flavors. You must stop by and try one of their slice cakes or cupcakes.
Also, the employees at Silk cake are always super sweet to everyone that enters the store. Continue the great work Silk cake.

So many options with so many intriguing flavor combinations!
The thai tea cupcake was so good (then again, condensed milk in any form is my weakness), and I really liked the texture of the black sesame cupcake. The yuzu cupcake pairs well with its strawberry buttercream. The vegan pandan cupcake with its chocolate avocado cream was also surprisingly decadent. Highly recommended!
Honestly, the only one I was unsure about was the vegan ube cupcake—its coconut whipped cream turned to coconut water as soon as it touched my tongue. The sakura blossom cake—quite pretty and the texture inside was actually nice, like a soft pudding cake. The original milk bun—average, like any other milk bun you can find in a regular bakery. They were out of the chocolate chips and cream version, so they replaced my order with the original kind (and were kind enough to put my change on top; thank you!).

It's been 3 years since I've ordered a custom cake from Silk Cakes for our daughter's 100 day celebration, but it was nonetheless a wonderful memory of the cake. They were responsive and helpful and don't mind giving me quotes on every option I was wondering about. I had purchased all these cupcakes ahead of time to nail down a flavor, and anything Yuzu seemed to be my favorite. The cupcakes are delicious and unique. You recommend to let them sit a while at room temperature to bring them to a nice consistency, but the staff would gladly warm it up for you if you wanted to consume it right away. I still go and buy cupcakes with our daughter whenever we pass by. It's really hard to resist. Not much seating space, only good for at most 6 people. The step in front of the store is not stroller friendly, but they are willing to lend a helping hand. Try them out! Some of the flavors my photo shows are seasonal.

Amazing cake and service! I ordered a vegan cake same day pickup in the morning but didn't pay at that moment as I didn't had card. But they made the cake despite of that and called me for pick up in the evening. It was Friday, crazy traffic. They waited even after hours untill I reached there. They literally waited for me till 8.10 pm. How kind of them! Never experienced such a thing. And the cake was super delicious. Good wishes to Silk cakes!

My wife and I love this place. We have gotten a custom made cake for our son's 2nd bday party and this year we ordered 40 gourmet cupcakes for his 3rd bday party. The food taste amazing. All of my friends complimented on how delicious the cupcakes were. The staff are very helpful and friendly. There is only a small table to sit at but it's more for ordering goodies for parties.
Try the banana nut and Nutella cupcake - my wife's favorite. I really like the Japanese uzo aka lemon and strawberry creme cupcake

I ordered a groom's cake from Silk Cakes and the whole process was very smooth. I worked with Amy, one of their cake designers, and her concept for what I wanted was new and innovative. She was able to take my ideas and create the perfect cake for it. My husband loved it! And they were able to let me create my own cake combo with the existing flavors they had. I told them that my husband loves peanut butter and chocolate but they currently didn't have that as an available combination and they were able to make it for me. Amy was also very accommodating. I live in NJ and it can be a trek to get to their location in NY so Amy and I were able to schedule conference calls to hash out the details. She was very helpful in creating the design and listened to my comments. They were amazing. I would definitely go back for another cake and recommend them to friends!

WOW!!!!
I found Silk Cakes simply searching for custom cakes in NYC. This was the first one that came up and all of the reviews talk so highly of Judy so I figured I'd give it a shot and called her. She picked up and sounded very genuine and great, I didn't even need to search another cake vendor!
The work that Judy does is beyond spectacular. I put in a request for a friend's birthday cake, she loves Doritos and loves good shopping so I had a custom job done. I sent her a few pictures and wasn't sure what to get out of it.
She nailed it!!!! I picked it up within a week of placing the order and not only was everyone calling the cake the greatest cake ever made, but it tasted SO GOOD!! She has some tempting flavors - I picked the Red Velvet. So happy with it.
Thank you so much, Silk Cakes!!! You guys are the best!!! Highly recommend!!
