Reviews Bonjuk Korean Traditional Porridge Restaurant

This is my go to restaurant if I ever feel sick and need some warming, soothing congee to feel better. After binging on too much Korean BBQ, I am a big fan of eating the right food the few days to help with illness. Bonjuk has saved me many times. Food: The Korean style congee is thicker and has more numerous versions than I have seen in Cantonese restaurants. I recommend getting the Octopus Kimchi for something with a little spicy, fermented tang. The Salmon or Tuna Congee is great if you want something lighter but still savory. They also have sweet dessert like congees such as pumpkin which is really good. I am smiling even as I write this review because I feel so warmed inside just thinking about the food. They have renovated not so long ago and now also include Bibimbap, both regular and also in a Stone Pot. There are also some Kastu dishes on their menu. I am glad they are expanding and giving some more options. I have the expectation that those dishes will be just as healthy as their congee, but if its your first time, just order the Congee. Worth a mention is also their Mung-bean blended cold drink. It can be a little sweeter than I expect sometimes, but it is a delicious cold accompaniment to the hot congee that you eat. Price wise, they do lean more expensive than your typical lunch and for dinner, it may not fill you up as much if you are looking for more food. However, they are really the only Korean Congee game in town. If you want authenticity and good Korean comfort food, Bonjuk is worth the visit.

Amazing porridge here today. We had the shrimp veggie porridge and spicy squid hot stone bibimbab. Both were excellent. Great side dishes that were perfectly chopped for adding to the porridge. Excellent pumpkin drink. Was not sweet at all. Great service. I will definitely be adding this place to my rotation.

We're hooked. Porridge is best for a cold, rainy day but you can eat it all year round here. Every dish we've tried has been really good. I've had the curry katsu and that's tops on my list as well.

Always go to their restaurant in LA, was very excited to visit one in Queens. Delicious porridge and mung bean juice! The only porridge I don’t like so far is Pollock one (fish is too dry for my taste and overpowering). I wish they had different location in NYC, because this one is little to far to go without a car.

It is my first time trying Korean porridge. It was good, and it was quite different from Guangdong style porridge. The service is really good, they are very polite and responsive. I think the Korean restaurant in Murray Hill offers authentic Korean food than those in midtown. The menu did look different, and they will not serve the mayonnaise-style free appetizer in Murray Hill. It worths a try for food here.

A good place to go for specialized porridge. The setting is quiet and clean. Service was wonderful. Quite pricey for rice porridge at a location this far from Main St.

One of my favorite places to go for a nice simple bowl of jook/porridge. It has a very calm atmosphere and gives you a sense of well being for mind body and soul.

Came back here for the third time. Ordered Cheese Katsu and Bulgogi Octopus Porridge. Both are good. A bit pricey for porridge.

Such a great experience. I ordered seaweed beef porridge and it was so good. Delicious side dishes, too. This place has such a cozy and elegant ambiance!

Always the best jook (congee). I wish there were more sides but still amazing.

The porridge is delicious. U get a big bowl. I think there's one waitress for the whole place. I got the shrimp porridge, which is very straightforward and good for beginners. My husband got the chicken ginseng, which was tasty but I don't know if I'd want a whole bowl of it. Tea is good, not very hot

The porridge was great. We ordered one beef and the other chicken. They're both great, but I like the chicken porridge better. For the cold winter months, hot porridge is the way to go.

It's hard to choose a place in this neighborhood with many new and older places. Many are for large groups and parties. Bonjuk is for a peaceful and healthy meal. The soups are all made with careful attention to detail, ingredients are finely chopped to ensure maximum flavor. I like to try new places but if it is raining and you want comfort food that is healthy then this place is for you.

They have one of the best congee's I've had in a very long time. It was extremely tasty. A very large portion with flavoring included and was definitely worth the price. The rice was not over cooked, watery, or to dry... it was literally perfectly cooked. It will be my go to for rice pooridge from now on I liked it that much!!!!
