Review El Matador Mexican Bar & Grill - Fayetteville

Had an awesome atmosphere and the service was great. Our waiter went above and beyond to see we were taken care of. Hats off to him bc he was very busy! The appetizers were good and the main meal was excellent was well!

The cute hog chips were the first selling factor. I mean come on how can you not love that. Good food all around. Fast service too.

This place is so bad and management could care less. I sent my taco salad back that literally poured out loads of grease the second I cut the shell open…. Then they change it to a different shell and bring the same one out, still full of grease. Disgusting, I do not recommend eating here. La Huerta, Matador and Mojitos are all owned by the same people and I’ve had bad experiences at all 3! No one cares either.

Service sucked. the burger was alright but the rest of the food was SO greasy I could not finish it and my stomach hurts. The waitstaff disappeared we waited a long time to order, and didn’t get any drink refills. They tried to charge us for an extra drink we did not order. but the food came out fairly quickly though. Would not go and spend my money there again.

We showed up hungry & they did not disappoint. The girl who was supposed to greet us did not. She grabbed 2 menus & took off so we followed. The rest of the evening was great.

We have been here multiple times since they have opened and we've never been disappointed. The food is always fantastic, quick and the servers are always very friendly, as well. 10/10 Would recommend.

Food was typical Mexican food, nothing special. Restaurant was half full and the waiter wanted to rush us into ordering. On the way out I waved at the 2 employees holding up the hostess stand and they eyed me like I was in a western saloon in from 1870. I stopped and stated to them that it was rude to not thank your customers on the way out when they are "waving" goodbye towards you. They didn't even acknowledge me when I said that. Talk about "entitled"!!! This was the 2nd establishment in Fayetteville without manors today.

They seated us by the kitchen when the place was empty. When we asked to move the waiter was visibly irritated and then treated us as such. He was visibly put out by us asking for the drink selection. Also, it was clear the owners wife couldn't care less as well...we left hastily and won't be going back.

Horrible food and service. Friends or family of a server had children running around the tables. If the were not doing that, they were screaming. Never returning.

They had a few vegetarian choices and a nice selection.

Service was good. Prices were about average.

Place is newer and clean.

We would all go back again.

Best thing: the mints. PATHETIC. Won't be coming back, obviously. Their only good quality is the food comes hot and quick. However, it's bland and lacking overall. I could continue, but I think you get the gist.

I found out that their menu online is outdated when I called thinking I had been overcharged. I feel it should be corrected before they even opened....it's misleading and deceiving and I suggested to the young lady they fix that problem. Not happy. The food wasn't that great either.

The food at this Mexican restaurant is OK. Nothing out of the ordinary. The food is not very spicy, fairly bland. I've tried the chicken and shrimp fajitas which are somewhat burnt tasting, the ground beef tacos which are nothing spectacular, and the cheese enchilada. The sauce on the cheese enchilada was quite good, however. The staff is very friendly.
It's closed Down. I wasted an18min drive. Oh, well maybe we can find some other place to eat. I don't want fast food. It's no filling for someone Hungary.

Went in for my birthday lunch. As it is also father's day the place was packed. This is the new location on Wedington. The layout leaves much to be desired. The open area floor plan and the lack of ceiling baffling makes it extremely noisy. I could not hear the people I was with due to the ambient noise around us. The waiter was polite, but had to ask to get salsa and chips refilled. I ordered the Dennis Special burrito with chicken. I was given it as steak. The meal was good even if not what was ordered. To be fair it was rather chaotic there. The parking leaves much to be desired also. As others have stated the chips are not really fresh, but the salsa had flavor if not heat. I will likely not go again for a long while, give them a chance to work out their problems.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I don't usually waste my time reviewing, but this was a nightmare.
The salsa is basically just tomato paste, the chips are chewy, the food was room temperature, but to top it all off... We found a ROCK inside of the fajita burrito. Service was nonexistent. Please save your time, money, and appetite and go to another restaurant that is worthy of your business. 2/2 times I have been there it has been more than a disappointment. I will never be back.

Worst experience ever - not going back which sucks because we eat there a lot. I love Mexican, their food is good, and it's close to my house.

Yesterday I ate there with my mom, sister, and the kids. Mom's a vegetarian so she ordered the VEGGIE quesadilla which is clearly stated on the menu. What she got was a CHEESE quesadilla. When she told the server, he explained that it's called a veggie quesadilla because there's not any meat on it but it doesn't come with any vegetables. Wtf, guys? Later he did stop by and apologize. He said something about the way you put the order into the computer. There was a little bit of a language barrier but we got the point.

When we got the ticket, it still had the veggie quesadilla on it. So when my mother went to pay, she told the cashier what happened and that it should just be a cheese quesadilla. She wouldn't talk to my mother about it and immediately called the manager WHO PROCEEDED TO ARGUE WITH MY MOM about how the VEGGIE quesadilla doesn't come with VEGGIES. He even got out the menu to argue his point but my mom just showed him where it says VEGGIE QUESADILLA. He finally told her that he "couldn't do anything for her" and angrily walked off. He was extremely rude and argumentative with her the whole time.

So because they didn't have the decency to just charge my mother for what she ate, or omg apologize for the mistake and maybe NOT charge her (gasp), they lost our business over what was probably $1 difference in price. And I eat a lot of Mexican food.

Way to go, El Matador. Way to go.

This is the first time my husband and I have been here and it's the new one on Wedington, we waited a long time to be seated and they were not busy, there was nobody at the front counter so we were wondering if we were suppose to seat ourselves. Finally someone came and seated us the service was okay but we got our drinks after our food and it took a while, the portion was small and didn't even fill up half the plate. We filled up on chips and salsa after eating our food. The rap music they were playing was not suitable for young children. And it was kind of a stressful experience.

This place has good food and great margaritas! One of the better Mexican restaurants in Fayetteville, I would say. And the service has always been good in my experience.

I love the food here. The waiters and waitresses' are great too. However, the 2 hostesses that work there, have bad attitudes. They don't smile when you walk in or when you pay. They stick their hand out for your money am just look at you. They need a serious lesson in customer service. It's a good thing you only have to deal with them when you walk in and when you leave.

we found the food to be good and fresh. But, its just one more Mexican restaurant with the same menu as all the others. the same old choices. is Mexican food really so limited? is there not any pasta dishes? anything that could make them stand out from the rest. where they are at, they need something...

You'll love it. Let’s start with the location so you won’t miss it. Just west of the I-49 interstate at the Wedington exit (exit 64) turn at McDonald’s onto Steamboat Drive and it’s about a block.
This is a nice clean restaurant with very good service. Today was my second visit and each was with three other people. The eight meals included burritos, tacos, taco salad, quesadillas, enchiladas and fajitas. Everyone was pleased with their meal and considered every dish to be far above the average. I had a special which is not on the menu called Ghost Pepper Fajitas. I don’t have words in my limited vocabulary to properly describe how delicious and different they were. I’ve had a lot of fajitas and I have never eaten anything close to this outstanding combination of flavors. I hope they add them to the menu. The salsa is in the top 5% that you will find anywhere.
The quantity, quality and price will satisfy your tummy, taste buds and wallet. My only complaint is that I live 20 miles up the road but it’s worth the trip.

Amazing food, good service. Very quick. The cheese dip and salsa are the best in town. Steven special is my go to. Not the cheapest, but the quality is there! I eat here probably once a week!

New bartender. Adrian is an awesome mixologist. GREAD DRINKS!

Awful Service, Metal in Chips. Of the 60ish places I have been to so far on my restaurant tour this was by far the worst service of anywhere. I got a table and then shortly after they took my order and gave me chips and salsa then a good 20 minutes went by with no food and no visit from my waitress. The waiter and the waitress that were working that night were both sitting down at another table eating dinner while everyone else waited on theirs. After the 20 minutes she came by and asks me "what did you order again?", then I get my food about 10 minutes after that. In that 10 minutes I found a piece of metal in my chips and when she came back I told her about it and she looks at it and responds "it's probably from when they clean the dishes". She then brings me a new thing of chips and says sorry and walks away.

Lastly, I ordered the Steven special like I so at all the other Mexican places in town and it wasn't nearly as good, the queso was really bland.

Ok food, horrible drinks, HORRIBLE SERVICE.

We always order food to go from here because it's close to our home. They always get the order right, it's always fresh and delicious. Great portion sizes too.

YAY! Thank GOD!. Finally, a great Mexican place on this side of Fayetteville. They are owned by the same people as La Huerta/ Mojitos/ etc.. I guess it would have been nice to have something new BUT, I'm okay with this because these restaurants are always good! The service was great, food was great, cheese dip was awesome, and the margaritas were amazing as always! $1.99 margaritas on Weds!! I know my new Weds hangout!

Quick and Easy!. I stopped by for a quick lunch and ordered the Mely's Special (Spinach enchiladas with rice and beans). It was brought out within 5 minutes, and was pretty delicious! Chips and salsa were also on par with some of the best I've had. Both were fresh and full of flavor.

The atmosphere is great, with the traditional ballads of Mexico playing over the speakers, and the seating areas are extremely colorful and fun.
