Just south of Parkway on 52 is this small lunch place that stays open until 7pm. Lots of sandwiches hot and cold as well as fresh salads. Known for chicken and dumplings as well as beans and corn bread.
Secret Garden Deli Delight!. We were recently in the area on vacation. We were looking for a place to have lunch, and discovered this wonderful place! It was a beautiful day, so we ate outside on the patio area. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden full of roses, and plants. I felt like we were eating in our own secret garden. The food was delicious! I had a turkey wrap with their homemade cranberry chutney that was out of this world good! The homemade potato salad was delicious, and the portions were generous, and filling. My hubby got a burger, and it was more like two thick patties! He said that it was awesome, and a lot bigger than you get at most places. They also have homemade soups, pintos and chow chow, chicken and dumplings, salads, wraps, sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, and homemade desserts. Our server was so sweet, and we wanted for nothing. If you are ever in this area, you have to stop here, and give it a try.

We were traveling on 77 looking for something for lunch other than fast food. Only a few miles off the highway and so worth it. Delicious wraps and you can build your own sandwich/wraps just as you like which is perfect for the vegetarians. We ordered to go since we had to get back on the road. The lady who took our order was so nice and made sure we had everything we needed. They have outside seating as well as inside which looked nice. Our food was very fresh and everyone enjoyed their food. The chocolate chip cookies at the counter were amazing!
If you find your self in fancy gap around lunch or dinner. This place is a must try!!! So good.
The Gap Deli is the perfect spot for lunch or an early supper while driving or biking on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We've eaten here many times and enjoy the freshly made sandwiches, soups and carrot cake. The service is always outstanding! And the nicely landscaped outdoor patio is great in warm weather. Highly recommended!
Good food. My daughter and I stopped in to pick up dinner on our way to our hotel in Fancy Gap. We got a bowl of chili (for her), a bowl of chicken and dumplings (for me), a chocolate chip cookie and a loaf of sourdough (not made in house).
The chili was good, not too spicy and just the right amount of beans. My daughter (age 3 )loved it and ate half the bowl. The chicken and dumplings were good as well, with walnut-sized dumplings that held their shape and melted in your mouth, and good sized bites of chicken.
The bread was made by Grace Bakery, and while it didn't taste overtly of sourdough (I come from the San Francisco area, so maybe I just grew up with sourdough with a lot of bite), it was very good.
The chocolate chip cookie was a bit more than halfway between chewy and crispy, and though I like my cookies almost-raw chewy, it was good.
Awesome Place to Dine!. The new owners, Charles and Margaret have really taken everything into consideration. They hired Chef Cissy and her food is fabulous. Awesome fresh salads with real lettuce, not the cheap stuff, great sandwiches named after local places, tasty treats...and a casual classy atmosphere. Outside dining rocks because Charles is a landscape designer and the flowers and plantings make for a great view.
I have gone to this deli numerous times after my friends and I discovered while riding our motorcycles one day a few years ago. There are many things that keep me returning to this place, but in order I would say that the people who own/run the place and the employees are super-friendly and welcoming, then the food is great (especially the peanut butter pie...wow!), then the location and the experience is very cool. All in all, it's just a great little stop for good people and good food. You can't go wrong!
Just a hop off the Parkway sits this absolute jewel. I am simply blown away by the not only the amazing food, but the warm welcome from the staff, and the inviting atmosphere. We had the Firecracker Sanwich on sourdough and the Turkey Gone Wild Wrap; both were beyond amazing. The apple cranberry chutney on the wrap is a perfect pairing. Basically, do yourself a favor and make this a stop for a bite to eat.
I cannot emphasize how good the food was here. We got the Turkey Gone Wild wrap (the chutney was INCREDIBLE, as was the whole wrap) and the Firecracker Sandwich (phenomenal) both with sides of some of the best cold slaw we'd ever had, and their special of the day for soup was Chicken n' Dumplins. I've never had chicken n' dumplins so close to my grandmothers, and so it was a special day when I was able to eat it here. Anytime in the future that we are passing through remotely close to here, we'll be going back!

The Parkway is so quiet and peaceful, I might have just driven straight through, but thank goodness I stopped here. This Reuben is melting in my mouth.
