Review 1201 Kitchen - Erie

Had a wonderful time at 1201 Kitchen x South Shore Wine Company. Great service, great food, great views.

Great service with quality innovative menu! Long story short we were forgotten at the bar for a bit. We were given apologies and offered a bottle of wine on the house. We not only loved the food, drinks and atmosphere but also enjoyed the thoughtful service.

Delicious, perfectly prepared food. Sashimi and ceviche were too die for, the Wagyu sirloin was perfect. They have a decent selection of adult beverages and beer. The place is cozy. The location is on a busy downtown street. Over all this place is a wonderful Erie foodie spot. I would definitely go there again.

Guarantee you haven't had Asian/Mexican Fusion like this! Innovative menu, great multi-course tastings...and ask if the basement chef's table is available!

My wife and I went looking for daring and interesting cuisine while here on business. This placed nailed it! What you’re paying for here is art for your taste buds. It was much appreciated!

Great service and an interesting menu. Was a great pick for date night or could be good for birthday/anniversary celebrations. I believe they have a private party room.

In a city where "fine dining" is often synonymous with yet another bland Italian restaurant, 1201 Kitchen stands out as a truly amazing culinary option. The menu, which takes advantage of seasonal produce, is filled with fusion dishes heavily influenced by Asian cuisine. The serving sizes are not monstrous (yet, I've still found them very filling) and have a great presentation. I'm not much for liquor or wine, so I'll leave that to another reviewer. The beer selection is not lengthy, but there's always something that I like and it's nice to see local brewer's creations on the menu. With Covid-19 wreaking havoc on the dining scene, 1201 has made a few changes including recently partnering with a winery in Erie county for a unique outdoor dining experience. My husband and I were able to secure reservations for a dinner with that partnership and we brought friends who were visiting from New England. The menu, pared down to a couple of options, was nevertheless impressive and the food was lick-your-plate-clean fantastic. Despite the significantly limited reservation availability at their State Street location due to Covid-19, we were lucky enough to get a table for my birthday this year. We each had a 7-course meal for $40 and regardless of how full we both were by the end, my husband and I finished our meals with the same lick-your-plate-clean enthusiasm. In short, 1201 Kitchen is an excellent restaurant and a gem in the city of Erie.

Great food! Loved sitting at the bar!! Friendly atmosphere.

This place came highly recommended to us. We had reservations for 8PM. We were seated right away. We were waited on quickly. We waited for over 35 minutes for out appetizer. The waitress did remove them from our bill. We had a spicy tuna roll, which was absolutely amazing. I ordered the fried chicken and my husband ordered some ramen dish. He said his meal was very bland. My chicken was basically a small, deep fried chicken patty, with 4 quarter sized pieces of pineapple and a few small pieces of avocado. Not filling at all. For the price we paid for this meal, which we absolutely will pay for good food, it was not worth it at all. If we could have had rolls and sushi all night, we would have been very happy. Needless to say, my husband and I will not be back.

Dan, J.B. and staff are consistently excellent - the food is imaginative and delicious and the service is always great. They maintain an extensive drink menu and the Kobe appraiser is the best I've ever had. We're so lucky to have this place just a few minutes away!

This is the best happy hour in town!!!!! Monday through Saturday......where else can you get that!!!!! I visit here at least twice a week. The smoked salmon sushi is the best!!!! I love that the menu changes with the seasons. Tonight I had the pan roasted scarlett snapper. It was fabulous!! The bartenders create some of the best and unique cocktails around. Come and visit Elizabeth, Ryan, and Anthony!!!!

It’s not just a restaurant with amazing food it’s an experience. Highly recommend sitting downstairs at the bar watching the skill of the chefs making the presentation of the dishes.

Had my birthday dinner here a few weeks ago in the downstairs area. Our service was perfect and the food was AMAZING! We are going back tonight because we are craving the food so much and so excited to see the new menu! I would highly recommend 1201 to anyone looking for a great dinner in downtown Erie!

Everything about 1201 is over the top, the food, the service, the atmosphere, all are excellent! And eating at the kitchen table is an absolute must-do experience. Our very favorite restaurant bar none!

I came for the sushi years ago and I just keep coming back! Phenomenal food, great atmosphere, my favorite restaurant in Erie and I recommend it to all my friends

My birthday dinner was beyond great! The guacamole/salsa sampler was amazing, and the Ramen and Waygu beef entrees were so delicious. To top it off, the Panna Cotta was to die for and the service was prompt and knew what we needed before we even had to ask. And if course, drinks were creative and fresh If I could give it six stars, I would!

1201 is an amazing restaurant! My husband and I travel all over and this still is our favorite place! Amazing food, service, and of course, drinks!! If you really want to treat yourself to something spectacular, you must give it a try!

Been here a handful of times now and am just blown away EVERY time!!! Food is out of this world. Atmosphere is just lovely, and the staff are all so genuine and informative. I am a big fan of sushi and am fond of their unique flavors offered throughout the menu. Can't fail to mention the short rib ramen bowl- oh. my. goodness. If I could give them more than 5 stars I would! Check this place out, you will NOT be disappointed. Thank you 1201!!! Keep up the fantastic work!

Ate downstairs in the kitchen area for the first time. The ambience was surberb with a little difficulty reading menu due to the dim lighting. Able to view the kitchen area where the chefs preps Enjoyed the tapas style chips with five different types of sauces. Also the green fried tomatoes had a nice cheese glaze to it. The wait staff was excellent. Explaining and suggesting main course meals. We all enjoyed the fresh red snapper. I had the veal skirt Pablano steak with Portabella mushrooms excellent. The scallops and shrimp seafood meal was out of this world. And last but not leas. tI would recommend next time the pork belly. Overall it was an exciting dinner with extremely new cocktails available. In addition it was her birthday dinner and they comped a free dessert complementary which was outstanding.

Sushi is amazing. Everything we ate and drank were perfectly crafted dishes. Extremely friendly staff. Our server made sure my glass was full for the entirety of the meal.
Atmosphere was very Asian inspired, candles on table, lots of seating. Very busy place, so we definitely recommend a reservation. Certainly not a quiet place to dine with a full restaurant, but I didn't notice and I could still contribute to conversation. They change their menu every 6-8 weeks, so if we lived in the area we would absolutely return in that time frame to try the new menu. Kudos to the owner and chef for bringing such a fabulous place to Erie.

Fantastic atmosphere. Tacos were delicious, creative menu. Nice selection of cocktails. Great place for a date or just cocktails after work. Parking is the only downside, but definitely worth it.

Ate here for the first time tonight and had a great time. A true local gem. Erie is lucky to have such an establishment. Looking forward to dining here again.

Hidden Gem!. As my date put it, 1201 Kitchen is one of the hidden gems of Erie! If you are familiar with Pittsburgh dining the menu is tamari-esque, dubbed Latin-Asian fusion. The ambiance is also similar- sleek and modern while still being accessible to the general public (evidenced by the wide range of attire I spotted on fellow diners ). We arrived later on a Friday night so it was not very crowded, and we were quickly seated in a little corner relatively close to the bar. Just as quickly as we were seated, we were greeted by Dennis, who provided attentive yet nonintrusive service throughout our meal. After perusing the cocktail list, I settled on a drink that had spiced rum, hard apple cider, and bourbon. Not something I would normally choose but sometimes you just have to go with your gut instinct and wow-I'm glad I did! Although the drink was clearly going to be strong, it also tasted very well balanced and flavorful. I can't exactly recall what my date chose to drink but I do remember it had a mango flavor to it and was very tasty.

As for the menu, they seem to focus mostly on tapas and sushi with a few entrees thrown in as well. To start off with, my date and I shared the spicy crab roll, described as blue lump crab, cucumber, boston bibb, candied jalapeno, basil aioli. Now I am not a sushi aficionado, however, I will say this roll was much more enjoyable to my palette than the two rolls I had at Tamari a couple of weeks ago. I typically am not a fan of sushi but this was amazingly tasty and the presentation was just stellar! When it came time to order entrees, I was having such a hard time choosing because so many things were jumping out at me! The first thing that caught my eye was actually what my date ended up ordering- the fresh ramen carbonara, described as smoked salmon, curly noodle, crispy chorizo, housemade ricotta, english peas, cream, fontina. When it came out he was expecting more of a soup due to the mention of ramen, however, he thought it was yummy and the bite I had of it was just so unique to anything I have eaten at even any of the restaurants in Pittsburgh-well done 1201! The flavors were all identifiable without being overwhelming. I know I will be ordering that next visit! I had spied the table next to me with some delectable looking desserts so I decided to 'go small" with the flight of soups (fennel & grilled scallion , ramen broth w/scallion, carrot & chipotle) because I knew the chocoholic in me had to have the chocolate dessert that was on the menu. The soups were delicious, with my clear favorite being the fennel and grilled scallion. It had a curry like consistency as well as a curry like flavor. I would have loved a whole bowl of that particular soup. My second favorite was the carrot and chipotle soup, which sounds like such an odd combination, however it worked brilliantly with just the right amount of spice to add some kick but not be overwhelming. And what a great way to get some veggies in you too! The presentation of both the soups and the ramen carbonara were very eye pleasing as well. You can clearly tell the kitchen takes pride in their abilities to produce quality food and quality presentation of said food. Now for dessert, we ordered the flourless chocolate cake which had some type of nuts and salted caramel also on the plate. I think I have found my new favorite dessert at any restaurant (honor previously had belonged to Bahama Breeze and their chocolate torte but I digress) ! It was so rich but one of those desserts that, if your a lover of chocolate like myself, you just do not, in principle, leave anything behind. We also shared an off the menu dessert, a red velvet cake with whipped cream and strawberries. It was good but I would have preferred fresh strawberries instead of freeze dried ones which were used in the dessert. However, after enjoying the chocolate dessert, nothing that was not chocolate was going to come close to being as good in my opinion. Since their menu changes quite frequently, I'll be looking forward to coming back (and updating my review) in the near future!

Amazing place to eat at. I have eaten there many times over the time it's been there. I recently went there with my wife and had the best experience possible. The sweet potato hash was absolutely amazing. I had the bull tail and my wife had the salmon there. I don't even like salmon and I still had a few bites. The waiter (I wish I remember his name) was the best I've ever had. He was very knowledgeable about the menu, asked questions and made recommendations. To the management: You have an amazing place there!

Best Restaurant in Erie. Most amazing food, atmosphere, drinks, people, facility & experience in Erie, PA. Hands down. Can't say enough good things about 1201. Chef Dan Kern is maybe the nicest guy ever. Menu changes every season. New & creative ideas flow from the kitchen nightly. A++

Best food in Erie!

1201 dining experience. My wife and I went to 1201 for my birthday. We like to sit downstairs at the bar so we can watch the chefs prepare and plate the different menu selections. We started with a tasting of all three soups offered, the seasonal pumpkin bisque was my favorite. Creamy and delicately seasoned it was a great way to begin our dining experience. Our waiter was friendly and professional. Our entree selections consisted of the kobe beef and pan seared scallops. The beef and scallops were cooked to perfection, sizing and plating appropriate. Both meals were exceptional in both presentation and flavor. This no small town wannabe folks! Fine dining and excellent service at its best.

Best in Erie. Great place for a nice dinner or to get a cocktail or two. I recommend it

So good that I felt guilty eating it! Well worth the spend!

Erie Damn close to perfection. Definitely the most enjoyable meal I've had in Erie. Their attention to detail is superb. Their limited menu only shows that what they do they want to do perfectly. Don't come here if you expect cookie-cutter food from a 6 page menu. Absolutely 4 stars.

Wow. must remember if you are any where near Erie pa it is worth going out of your way to stop for dinner at this place. I'm a woman who loves good food and this was the best meal i have had in quite a while. Appetizers lovely, soups delicious, lamb tenderloin generously portioned and exquisite in flavor combinations. dessert and coffee also yummy. hope i can stop in this place again soon.
Fritz
Inventive and excellently prepared food. Expensive and worth it. The food is great, and it's cooked to perfection. Love it. We've never had a bad experience here. Just be aware that the menu can be short, and although the food will be great, it might not be your taste. Kind of like my sense about opera. I know it's exquisite, but I'd prefer something else. On the other hand if you would like a chance to try something a little different this is the place.
Kristin Demsey
I tried this restaurant twice, thinking I ordered bad choices the first time. The atmosphere is very hip and modern, but that is where it ends. The drinks, even the restaurants specials, were barely drinkable. The sushi variety is interesting, but to taste it is not very impressive. Overall, I would say that the dishes that I have tried have had very distinct and non-cohesive flavors. The food/drink quality is not worth the price or experience.

Very good. 1201 has a great ambiance, with a big-city feel in a small town. The bar and dining area is very well put together, and the service is very attentive and friendly. The basement, where the kitchen and a few dining tables, is very cool! You can dine at a "bar" in the basement that faces the kitchen, which gives you a birds-eye look at the precision and quality of food being prepared in the kitchen.

The food is very good, with a large distinct variety borrowing from various cultural cuisines and styles. The "Asian Fusion" is very pronounced here, and there are many seafood and sushi options. I would personally recommend the Kobe Beef tartar as it is spectacularly prepared.

The drinks are also very good, albeit expensive. The wine list, however, is not exceptional and if you came for the wine, you are likely to be a bit disappointed. They do have some decent offerings, but if you are coming and hoping for a nice Bordeaux or a vintage Cabernet you will find yourself amiss. On my last visit, I did find a glass from their VERY limited "by-the-glass" selection that was fairly good (and recommended by the bartender, who was able to gauge my tastes very accurately).

Overall, this is not an overly expensive restaurant. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for; excellent food in an upscale place with great service.
Nic
Was very disappointed. I am going to spend $140 with tip between two people; I should walk out of there feeling very satisfied which did not happen. I will not be recommending the place nor become a returning customer.

Great experience. After moving from Philly to St. Marys Pennsylvania we had been longing for some fine dining and sophisticated atmosphere. 1201 reminded us of what we loved most about dining out in a metropolitan area. The food was delicious and the service excellent! I would surely return when in the area again.
Wow
Great food and atmosphere. Great food, menu changes often so you always get to try new things. Several of our clients/customers ask to go back when they are in town. Also a great bar area to just hangout at after work.

Ignored. First trip to 1201 and it was my birthday. Dinner, drinks, service were great. We were seated in the window area and upon leaving I forgot there was a step there and it is so dark you cannot see it. Of course I fell and husband and owner helped me up. Owner then left and never said anything, he couldn't have cared less. So very sad as we would have made that a regular place. Maybe a lighted entrance would work.

I was very impressed with 1201 from the decor to the food. The servers are a delight and knowledgeable about the food and how it pairs together. The chef has done a great job and is only getting better with his recent travels I'm looking forward to seeing the new flavors he comes up with. The sushi is the best in town. Have eaten here many of times and would recommend it anyone looking for a great change of pace to the same old chain restaurants here in town. Only thing I would love to see is a lower charge for wine. But don't let that stop you from eating at 1201

Delightful dining experience. My husband and I love 1201 but we were even more impressed with our dinner last month.

We attended a charity event in 2011 where we purchased a wine pairing dinner for 8. We invited some work friends who had never eaten at 1201. The evening was delightful.

We were seated downstairs in our own dining room so we could see all the action. The food and the wine were outstanding. The service was impeccable.

Erie is Lucky to Have 1201.... After reading some of the other reviews, I had to comment. I can't believe there are negative reviews of this Erie gem! My boyfriend and I frequent this establishment and have never been disappointed, or even mildly dissatisfied. The food cannot be described with words, it's THAT good. I love that the menu changes every few months because it keeps patrons interested in coming back to try new things. The Latin-Asian fusion concept isn't something I've ever encountered before and the way Dan creates such exciting combinations of flavors is nothing short of magical. I also have to mention the sushi because it is my favorite in Erie. Are the prices a little higher than your run-of-the-mill chains on Upper Peach with long wait times, slow service, and less than mediocre food? Sure. But is the food AND service 100% worth it and then some? Without question. Erie is SO incredibly lucky to have a chef like Dan Kern and staff like the awesome people at 1201. Keep up the good work!
KC
My first fine dining experience in Erie was a good one. Typically, my food adventures revolve around steelhead fishing which usually means wings, pizza, and hoagies. But, I visited the area for the Beer on the Bay event and wanted to explore some of the more refined places on peach and state street areas. On to the food- the items we had were deliscious. Great flavors and imaginative fusion food. I didn't get sushi. But the chef looked to take great care in her preparations. We dined at the bar. Service was very good. We will be back.

1201 is hot, it's classic and modern and chic, Dan and Meg and the whole staff are very professional. Artists of food, it's a special gem to Erie

Probably the best food I will ever eat in Erie ever.... Recently, my fiance and I visited 1201 Kitchen. From beginning to end, every dish is crafted with your palate as its number one customer - which sadly, most restaurants miss. They have an amazing mind for accompaniments and the dishes are complex and creative without being botched. While the prices and descriptions seem pretty pretentious upon first glance... its because they can afford to be. Definitely check it out. And if he's still hosting his winter menu, try the Duck Confit. Perfect!

Something to keep in mind. I loved the food here, but don't be fooled by their kobe beef. Real kobe beef can only be produced in Japan and is illegal to import into America since 2002. So, unless you just like really really tender regular meat, don't waste your money. Everything else was great though! The soup especially!

http://www.thekitchn.com/kobe-beef-foods-biggest-scam-forbes-170268

So special and so different. Love this place. Perfection. The Kobe small plate and the shrimp small plate were delightful. The Lamb special had a deep, warm and complex flavor. Outstanding.

Had a wonderful dining experience with great wine and absolutely decedent food.

****. Wow. Listen. I know good food and this place serves it. I had the smokey clam chowder and it was excellent. I lived in New England 22 years and this chowder was right up there with the best of Boston. I can't wait to return. By the way, the service was not slow. I think sone people in Erie are so used to fast food that they don't realize that you have to wait a bit while the chef prepares your food. The staff was excellent.
Mkg
Not all what it's hyped up to be!. The cocktails are good. The sushi is lame. Just not anything special. If you've ever made sushi at home, you could do just as good of a job. The rest of the meal was just average. I don't mind paying a price for good food, but here the prices aren't justified. It's not that pricey, but the food isn't that great either. And, keep in mind that even if they look like they have free tables they may not have enough servers to cover them and so you might not get one.
Crd421
The Kobe beef was literally the most amazing food we have ever eaten. The sushi is by far the best in Erie. Can't wait to go back!

Makes Erie Taste Good.... My wife and I are always looking for a new place to eat on Tuesday nights.. after stumbling on 1201's website, we decided to take a trip into Erie and give it a shot...

It's whole atmosphere is buzzing, you walk in, tables are filling up, the bar is buzzing with youngish hipsters, bmw drivers, and what appears to be a restaurant full of foodies.. it's amazing, and it's only Tuesday night! With that much going on, I'm already excited to try something..

We look over the menu and it's hard not to be impressed, the young erie native chef is cooking beyond his years.. inspired fusion dishes, and they are all (so far) prepared and presented beautifully.

We've been back a few times since our first trip and always look forward to going back.. ate at the bar last time and still had wonderful service.. the only thing wrong with this restaurant is the fact that it's so far away from me.

Keep cookin 1201

Best in Erie. Free Taco Tuesdays: Two FREE gourmet tacos, I recommend getting there before 7 p.m. in order to get a spot at the bar.

Other than that 1201 has the best of everything in Erie. Best menu, best cocktails (made correctly and with pride), best wine list, and best sushi. This really is the best restaurant in Erie, PA.
Kelly
LOVE IT!. This is our favorite place to eat in Erie. EVERY TIME we eat there, the food is delicious, we are NEVER let down! We actually seem to agree that the food gets better every time we go.
I don't feel like it is expensive at all..delicious,yes. Expensive,no.
Petrs54
Really good. It's expensive, but they are the only ones that do what they do [asian/latin fusion etc], so they can command those prices
Sallie Cwik
SUPERB. We ran fine dining restaurants in Atlanta, GA & Greenville, SC. We are are very rarely 100% satisfied with any restaurant - except 1201 Kitchen.

The service (Chelsea), the decor, the food and the presentation were 100%! AND it is affordable.

The Corn Bisque was so good that I want to take a gallon home, coconut milk, hints of Thai Red Curry - amazing. The Escolar was perfect as was the Pad Thai.

GO TO 1201!!!
Stephen
Pleasant Atmosphere. The pleasant atmosphere of 1201 Kitchen makes this restaurant an ideal spot for good conversation, food, and drink.

As the sushi girl at 1201 (yeah I've read the other reviews and frankly don't care about the negative because i know attention to detail sets mine apart from the utility sushi elsewhere in town. Its not these ppls fault they are ignorant) and somewhat biased, i am still repeatedly amazed by what my fellow cohorts in cooking come up with. Servers are knowledgeable on all facets if the current food on the menu as well as wines and liquors and are able to recommend perfect pairings. Cannot say enough good things about chef dan's cuisine and style, i have endless love for this restaurant
Orangemous
As a frequent customer of 1201, I have nothing negative. Always have had pleasant and knowledgeable servers and unique and potent drinks from the bar. An ever-changing menu keeps it exciting, however if you do not have a pallette for good food, I can understand why one would think it's 'not up to par and too expensive'. Too many people are used to chains with false flavor....Taco Tuesday is great for college aged people to check out. Attended some fun parties here as well. The sushi is incredible!
Joseph Sherrell
I am originally from Erie but now reside in CT so I frequent fine dining establishments. I read some reviews and did my homework before booking my party of 6. I am a big sushi fan as well as Kobe beef so their menu seemed kinda exciting to me. The beef was very good, but that was about all. It was just another trendy type city restaurant. I had scallops and while cooked well lacked flavor. The spinach underneath was very salty, I mean very salty and the sweet potatoes ok at best. The sushi I had wasn't experty prepared at all. I don't even know how much fish was actually in it because it was chopped for sone reason. Not a good spin on sushi. It is very nice atmosphere wise. Maybe the dishes I had were not their best offerings, so maybe my selection was off. The food wasn't good enough for such small portions. Please take this as constructive criticism. The place has potential, just needs to put some attention to the food and available wines. Merlot is not something that is that rare not to have. I have several bottles at all times at home. Trendy and a cool place would probably return for drinks.
Tera
Sushi, sushi, sushi. Food is awesome, atmosphere also great. I cannot say enough good things about their sushi... my mouth waters just thinking about it. They also have great scallops and fun mid week specials like "Free Taco Tuesday".

Excellent addition to our downtown selections and stands out from the usual "pub grub" commonly found downtown.
Mjags5
I currently went to a "Taco Tuesday," where one can get 2 free tacos at the bar. The tacos were very good, however service was horrible. The bar tender was rude and seemed irritated when asked to take my order. It took him 10 minutes to make a drink, and an hour to get the tacos. A friend order sushi and never receive it, even when he stated he had been waiting a long time.
Chef K
Worth it. I like what 12 o 1 is trying to do and give them credit for trying to make it work. They just need to work on a few details. When I was in i had the smoke duck breast and the flavor where good but the execution of the dish wasent the fat on the duck breast was under cooked leaving it rubery and not crunchy like it should be. Also the sweet potato gnocchi was good but was so soft it had no texture. Our app was good and my girl friends pork was also very good. This restaurant is worth trying and I look forward to going back
Chris Brown
Wow, the pork belly sushi almost made me cry. I can't wait for my entre.
Emily
Perfect Experience!. My husband and I absolutely love going to 1201 Kitchen. The atmosphere is comfortable and stylish. The wine list goes on and on to compliment each meal and the food is devine! I highly recommend the pan seared salmon or the pan roasted scallops as your main course. Also, you can't leave the restaurant until you've tried their sushi. Delicious!
Kevin
Just Ok. The food is just Ok. The wine and beer selection is not very good. It is expensive. There are better alternatives in the same neighborhood.
MK
Wonderful time - delicious food.. As my first time to check this place out I rather liked what I saw when I walked in. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, not overly crowded (it was a Tuesday evening) and I really enjoyed its modern aesthetic. It is a visually pleasing place. I felt comfortable in here.
As sort of a 'girls night out' we sat at the bar and waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Ordered some wine (nice choices-Though, I was a little disappointed with the beer list) and checked out the menu- everything, I mean EVERYTHING sounded delicious!
When it came time we were seated at a table and brought bread with a balsamic & olive oil dipping sauce.
Appetizers and Entrees were all AMAZING, the Scallops were out of this world- the corn cake fritter is came with was a little too 'breakfast muffiny' for me. But I equally enjoyd the Asparagus Tempura, Ahi Tuna Roll, Kobe Beef and Grilled Romain Salad.
Service was great, there was no extra waiting or rushing at all- food was all served at a perfectly paced time. Great food, great conversation....will definitely be coming back again!
Roberta
Roberta. I love this place. Whenever I am in Erie we always go there. The food is excellent and the staff is very helpful.
Deserts are to die for. I love the size of their portions. Everyone we have taken there has loved it. I do like that the menu changes often.

This was my first visit to 1201, my wife's third and our friend's second. I didn't see anything on the menu that called to me and asked if it would be possible for them to make me a combination of filet mignon instead of a stockyard steak in a dish they advertised (apparently they change their menu every 6 months). They were agreeable to this. My wife ordered a salmon dish and our friend ordered a dinner salad. The establishment is somewhat trendy (something you may find in any modern city) and we got to spend some time admiring our surroundings given the 40 min wait after our orders were placed. Food was decent (nothing to write home about) but was somewhat expensive given te portion size/quality of the meal. Overall the dinner experience was good. Very expensive $66 for two plates and no drinks.

Never Again. A word to the wise, KEEP OUT OF THIS RESTRAUNT. It bad, bad, bad. To order sushi we had to wait 1 ½ hours because it take "30 minute to roll". Any amateur chef could roll sushi in a few minutes. What an excuse, needless to say our party of 8 decline sushi. Next to order a beer we had to wait because the bartender was "too busy". Our waitress was indifferent, to the point of arrogance. Appetizers were mediocre at best and over priced. I ordered empanadas, which is an Argentinean cuisine; however it was very unsatisfying because of the filling. The cheese and ham appetizer was nothing more the a few slices of apple, cheeses and two slices of Italian ham.
Both appetizers were certainly not worth the price. The entrées were good, however the portions were very, very small and the value compared to the price is low. Prices for drinks are way above average, and again, we had to beg the waitress. 1201 is terrible. A major of patrons are nothing more than a set of "look at me", hoping to be recognize as a trend setter, but really are souls who are attempt to fill a void, created by some short of early childhood deprivation. The original owners quickly had to vacate the business, and I am sure the current management will have short term tenure. I did like the décor, lighting, art work on the walls, and my entrée was very well prepared. However too many negatives
