Review Makoto Sushi & Grill - El Paso

Excellent and I mean very excellent but not giving a 5 🌟 quite yet ❤️ First off I love to star off by my course with calamari rings which were not available. Hope u can include in the menu soon! Also no edamame which was my second choice. But that is included in the menu. I felt kinda funny that there is a Mexican seafood menu, which is not a bad thing but feel like it takes up space from the Japanese menu. Luckily I’m a pretty frequent sushi eater and has some great sushi. I want sashimi next time. But BUT ....... my family is not all saavy so translating a text into a mind picture was not very convincing. Maybe you guys can offer pictures of at least your best sellers or your most featured. Just a tip 😬 Also, I’m used to having larger pieces of the roll which it’s probably easier to eat but I liked the size myself. There was a little overuse of the salt somewhere. Not sure if it was on the sauce or what but hoping that there is no salt added on the fish 🐠. Over all I was really happy and there is something for everybody DEFENITELY. Also you get a small bowl of miso soup which is quiet clever and loved it. Made up for the other stuff I couldn’t find in the menu. It deserves 5 stars ⭐️ but not giving it so that there’s room for improvement 😁 Hope you guys enjoy your visit and appreciate the the food. Be patient guys sushi is not a fast food 💯❤️ Btw it was my Bday dinner. 🙌

Great local sushi spot. The service is just about okay. It's a family run business so the server is usually a teenager. I'm all about supporting small local businesses. The food is pretty good. You can't go here on a busy night though and expect good customer service, so be mindful of that. Ask for the specialty rolls at the bar which is what we ordered as pictures below, and it was heavenly. Really really good, I think it was called the 3 tail roll or something like that. Their miso soup is usually a bit too salty so I wish they would change that a little bit. Other than that great place, good food.

I am a very picky person when it comes to sushi. I crave the balance and the Umami taste. This is the place to get that! If you you crave complexity in your food. Sit at the bar and let Danny take you on a journey. Ask him for a some smoked salmon and he will amaze you!!!

5 years ago: When I invited my mum, to go to this Makoto Sushi I was extremely impressed. The rolls menu was filed up and I can honestly say eating tuna rolls was a great experience and would love to go back again. The atmosphere was great to talk in and eat. I ordered one of the Udon noddle soups, and boy was I impressed by the massive noddles, I enjoyed the poached egg it had, the crab. Also the miso soup was one of the best I have tried. I have had miso soup in many restaurants, and was hoping I could get more. but maybe next time. The green tea, was a great drink to also compliment the food. I also have to compliment on the sushi maker, Daniel, he was respectful to the guests and was great at what he did. Although some other women were flirting with him, he still kept his respect and did not flirt back. I indeed recommend going, if you don't mind a small wait on great food. Update: 2021 I am not pleased as much perhaps location or atmosphere just didn't help me enjoy. The service was well waitresses were tentative and refilled drinks regularly they brought over what was asked for. I'm a bit disappointed on our main entrees although may be good for someone who is a bit better with not a lot of flavored food then this is for you. The miso was still good enough salt and had the seaweed and tofu. Nice and hot. The pork cutlet dish I got was decent. Rice was well seasoned and I believe did have soy sauce already in it but it still looked white so it may have been another sauce. The pork cutlet though was difficult to eat as it was a bit tough. Yes I looked yummy before I tried cutting into it but oh well. The waitress had come after to even bring it up. I only asked how it was supposed to be but the waitress just said I should have brought up before. I never had the chance so I just asked for a to go box. I might just try to soften it at home instead. The Udon with beef "slices" soup was originally only tasting like beef and noodles were flavorless but it might be fine for someone into little to no salt. It did have a little bit of veggies such as a 2-3 broccoli pieces and 2-3 what we believe may have been sweet potatoes thin pieces at the bottom we didn't even know were in the Udon broth. Though I do recommend asking for soy sauce and adding to your preferred taste and maybe letting the Noddles soak a little bit longer to get the flavor. You can even do a little bit of spicy mayo with the beef pieces. This adds the kick. I enjoyed most their panko rolls today. We did the regular Panko Rolls and it tasted amazing. The california roll was fine but not what I expected from previous experience. I would maybe recommend trying other rolls instead of the regular california roll. Might have a better outcome. I might have just been a little unlucky this time as not everything was great but I don't want to say not to go. I do recommend trying and giving it a try. My first time at the original location close to target was amazing but the second time wasn't. You might be lucky and it be great each time. We meet the previous owner but I don't know if its the same any more since they are a combined restaurant it seems.

Although I didn't order sushi for myself. I did get to try some of what Chef Danny made for my wife. The bigfoot roll us amazing and full of color. Watch out if you don't like spicy.. it has a kick. But oooh soooooo good. The orgazm roll was good too and such a girl's roll. #prettyinpink Then there was the fish taco's. Fresh ahi chard with bells and onions served in a corn tortilla. The rest "is magic".#muahahaha Chef warned me about my order but stubborn me decided otherwise. My order was ginger beef, it wasn't bad or really dry.. it was just missing fresh ginger. The salad had some strawberry vinaigrette which I loved. Overall a great experience. Give him a follow. @sushigeniusdanny on Instagram. #cooldude

Sometimes you come across a rare gem that surprises you in it value. On the surface this seems like an ordinary sushi bar but with the right factors this could be possibly the best sushi experience you can have. On first blush you can pretty much have the menu rolls any where but when you order chef's discretion you are opening yourself to a dining experience rarely matched anywhere. Makoto and sushi genius Danny Song is a destination dinner. You cannot go in thinking quick service good food but rather go in with an open mind and be ready for that mind to be blown! Is it for everyone? Maybe not but people with discerning taste will really appreciate the effort the chef puts into his every rolly especially the ones he creates based on art rather than just consumption. Makoto is definitely a place to visit over and over and each time you will be pleasantly surprised by the variety and the overall experience.

Definitely my favorite sushi place in EP! Danny, the chef, asked if he could make me something and I love surprises so I said go for it! He did not disappoint!

For people who truly appreciate food preparation as an art form. Everything is delicious. Please do not come here expecting supermarket or big box sushi. The scallops melt in your mouth. A must try! Well worth the drive to the East side.

This place is amazing. Danny makes incredibly delicious sushi. He takes his food very seriously, and works hard to creatively combine ingedients and flavors that will blow your taste buds away. It's food art, really! If you want the full experience, call ahead to reserve a space at the bar. It's a little pricey, but well worth it.

Best sushi I’ve ever eaten! Danny is amazing! To get the full experience I highly suggest to sit at the bar and let Danny do his magic! I’ve never had someone prepare my food without my order. Every roll/plate we had was delicious and a surprise. My tastebuds were very delighted to say the least, Mokoto Sushi is my new favorite spot! Highly recommend!

Love this place! Eat at the bar to get the full experience and taste some off the menu items. Danny Song is a very talented sushi chef. We make it out at least once a month. Definitely the best sushi in El Paso hands down.
