Review Bowie Bakery West - El Paso

Dr. Crown
What an amazing assortment of all types of Mexican style pastries that are fresh and yummy! Always the nicest clerks, and the tamales are excellent, especially for grab and go.

hope you read this owner/manager.. I have called around 4 and 5 and no one answers the phone, why? I was there Friday the 22nd at 5:30, the lights were out and it was locked. I gestured to the clerk, a young man, asking him if it was closed and he gestured back "closed'' , when on your door you have the time that you close, 6:30 PM (may have been 6 PM to be fair). I hope you address this because I do like certain pastries that you sell.

Authentic Mexican Bakery with wide range of products. From bakery products like pan de muerto to apple critters and from conchas to non-bakery stuff like soaps and burritos. Really recommended. Come early or its gone!

Since I was in middle school, this is the best pan dulce in all El Paso, and I can probably say all Texas

Bowie Bakery is a hidden gem located behind Walgreens and Jack in the Box. After living here part time for the last 6 years I am pleased to say that this is a great Mexican bread bakery. Mexican pastries and tamales are prepared daily. These tamales are outstanding and I consider the best that I've tried here in El Paso putting lupita's tamales to shame. The hot food section is closed by 1:00 p.m. Typical Mexican pastries are available including refrigerated pastries like chocolate dipped strawberries and flan. The nut cookie is the star of the show. (see pic) I think they are made with some maíz. Brownies are available sometimes and they are delightful. I highly recommend this bakery and did not realize that they have been operating for many years here. I give this five stars.

I love their machaca burritos and friendly customer service. Gotta wake up early to get the burrito they close the kitchen at 1pm. Sweet bread is awesome.

Honestly east side is better with choices. But if your on the west side still has great quality.

Daaaaaaaaang! Thee most moist soft fluffy gooey incredibly tasting macaroons! Tried pistachio, choco, strawberry soooooo good! Like wow! First time trying those little yummies from there (weirdo donuts macaroons are also the bomb). I love Bowie bread, yoyos and choco conchas my fave.

Good breakfast (or anytime) burritos and of course "pan dulce" (pastries). This is a staple of El Paso, so when in town you have to give them a try. One of most popular burritos is "Machaca" (shredded beef), I recommend. Also they sell tamales but they sell out fast.

Good donuts and friends loves menudos which is the best in El Paso

OMG I've been here in El Paso for 4 years and I'm just getting my taste of deliciously fresh bakery desserts at Bowie Bakery ( both locations). Fresh, tasty, full of goodness. 9-10 I recommend. Donuts ☆, Brownies ☆, Apple fritters ☆☆.

terrible quality bread, second time I purchase bread here and it is hard as a rock... I decided to bring the bread back to show them and all they had to say was " no one else has complained " and asked for a receipt but I didn't want my money back, just wanted to let them know that their bread is terrible and they need to make it better. I will definitely not be coming back.

I find it simply amazing all the people who think Bowie Bakery makes good bread?... they USE TO make good bread a few years back but their standards are way too low now.... for instance, today I bought francesitos, tamales and doughnuts... the francesitos (boilos, pan frances or pan blanco– whatever you want to cal it) were horrible, mushy and not crispy like Valentines or Food City... the tamales lack a lot of salt and were all masa and no meat!... the doughnuts are not light but feel like your are eating two donughts at once unlike Duncan Dounuts... I saw their esponjas or pan de huevo and they look like they only had a couple of pieces of sugar on top? unlike the esponjas of Vista Market... as you can see I am not a competitor or even mentioning my families (brothers) bakery but– I hope that people vote with their money and start supporting or buying other bakeries bread to help Bowie awaken and up their quality and standards...

Not the original - the Bowie Bakery has pleased generations. But it's close. The same wonderful Mexican-style pastries, cookies and bread. Don't bother counting calories and be prepared for a sugar rush. Helps if you speak Spanish.

Going downhill. Went last Saturday, just had a few cupcakes in the case, they looked pretty sorry, bought three, very mediocre, not enough icing, icing looked droopy. Bought one dozen tamales, won't buy again. We don't eat menudo, but a lady outside heard us talking and said their menudo is no longer good. Went back today (Monday) and was told the cupcakes were from Saturday. On Saturday they already looked and tasted old.
I wont have them make the cupcakes for my daughter's wedding. Too bad, they used to be great.

Disappointed and quality went down drastically. Since I was a kid I used to love buying pan dulce at the Bowie Bakery, it was known for being the best...well not so much anymore! Recently, my husband and I went to their west side location to buy empanadas and a carrot cake (muffin)...well we were very disappointed. His pumpkin empanada was stale and the pumpkin flavor wasn't there. My muffin was horrible (I uploaded a picture), it was extremely hard, I tried to squish it a bit or poke it with my finger but it wouldn't budge (that should tell you how hard the cake was), I did taste a tiny bit of it and it was bland. The icing was horrible, not made of cream cheese...how can I have a carrot cake without the cream cheese frosting?? Not good! Never again.

I ordered my wedding cake here and I waited about two months to give a review to see I maybe I was overrating.

Firstly: Christina the baker who made my cake increased the price the moment she realized we were military. She charged $75 for cake delivery for the cake to be driven a mike down. Also she couldn't give me a sample for tasting so she wanted me to buy a cake instead. I got cupcakes. It did taste good.
Second: she charged another $100 for the details and the initial that I wanted to be engraved on the cake. The detailed was supposed to be all hand made and the cake was supposed to be White.
On my wedding day I saw my cake and even though it was pretty it was not what I had payed $500 for. Instead of the details in two of the tires of the cake shed put lace around it and those two tires were yellowish. The letter that she was supposed to engrave was a cheap plastic letter shed gotten from hobby lobby probably. The cake topper would not say straight for the life of me. The cake was pretty still but not what I ordered. Seemed like she never got the pictures and many emails if sent her.
I was disappointed and when I sent the cake stand back to get my deposit for it and emailed Christina she didnt even email back.
Wouldn't ordered from them again.

Very Disappointed. The pan dule and cakes are very good. HOWEVER, when I wait in line for 20 minutes and you want me to come back to take my simple birthday cake order. Forget it!! You just lost my lifetime business. I purchase about 5 cakes a year multiple times $50.00 then mulitple that by 30 years. That is $7500.00 that doesn't include any wedding cakes I might have purchased!!
