Well, another stop during our trip :) and this time for lunch.
The forest fires were raging and the only way to reach the lakes on the eastern part was through the eastern periphery.
So, we stopped in between for lunch .. since the options were very limited we decided to be here as we kinda liked the place, a small diner with a patio sitting as well.

Service was quick but our server was either high or confused .. and for sure oblivious to vegetarian concepts, I think.
Spilled half a jug of water on our table, got me a burger instead of bbq chicken .. told us the soup was vegetarian where I could see some chorizo in there .. basically bad enough to rate them very low .. but then it is a mixture of food and service and I would try and ignore his bad day .. :)

The vegetarians among us went all excited seeing the grilled portabella mushroom burger only to find the mushrooms weren't there, thus the choice was reduced to rather obvious - Garden Burger .. but then on a positive note .. the burger was rather good .. best from the others to be honest :)
The other burgers were a grilled chicken on swiss mushrooms ..
The chips were just salted lays and not the chips aka fries we expected which was a bummer :(

My quarter baked chicken with bbq sauce + veggie of the day = corn + baked potato was nice though .. I was glad, to be honest, not to have ordered a burger instead.
The minestrone soup came with salted crackers and I enjoyed it .. the only problem was that we were told it was a vegetarian soup before I noticed a chorizo in there .. well for me it is okay .. for others it isn't ..

All in all, food wise the place was good if not great .. and ignoring the bad service for this time, we all have our shares of bad days and all .. :)

Pleasant dinner, great dessert. The Whistle Stop was a popular spot the night we dined there - retirees, young couples, families, and bikers were all stopping in for a bite, filling the interior and the patio. Some were there just for huckleberry pie, heavily advertised on a sign outside. We each enjoyed a half order of pork ribs that were covered in a good, but not spicy bbq sauce and accompanied by either a fairly non-descript baked potato or potato salad. I also had a small bowl of creamy cauliflower soup which I thoroughly enjoyed. A half order of ribs each was more than enough, only someone with a big appetite would be able to finish a full sized order. Overall the food was good, but I enjoyed dessert more. We tried the huckleberry pie of course (although there were a wide variety of other pies) which was very good, with a sweet but not too thick crust.

By the time I left the outskirts of Glacier National Park I had learned three somewhat amusing truths. First: people take pictures of the dumbest shit. Second: that East Glacier might as well go on the record and declare itself the huckleberry capital of the world. Third: unlike the other eateries I visited, who might need to be framed against the confines of other vacation eating establishments, Whistle Stop Café stands up against restaurants of its ilk from all over. In four mornings in the park, I made four pre-10 am visits to Whistle Stop, a small restaurant willing to hand out free puppies at a moments notice . For anyone who reads me regularly, you will probably recall my unwillingness to voluntarily rise before anything ending in pm and my unabashed and frequent lambasting of even the most popular breakfast joints. Keep that in mind! If you have a yearning to coax your sweet tooth out of a deep and early morning slumber then I will tell you that the huckleberry French toast at

If you are looking for your reason to stop here I have photo's! Breakfast was AMAZING. I was seated by a window with this magnificent view of the mountains behind the town. The local dogs raced around the streets. Alexandra was very polite, quick, and very kind. I myself have been a waitress so I always bus up my own table for people who take my order. I had a hot chocolate and that was delicious. For my meal I had the Caramel Apple Stuffed French Toast and yes that's a mouth full to say! Golden Fluffy and Gooey on the inside with cream cheese, cinnamon notes and apple pieces this was a sweet tooth's dream! I had a side order of the breakfast potatoes which has red and green bell peppers and diced onions. cooked to perfection I was very pleased with them. The chairs have socks on the bottom of them to prevent them from scratching the floor and I was a fan of it. Thought it was adorable. The paper towel holders are also very neat. I love the set up. I was told the building is about 5 months old. So it was very clean and hardly much on the walls but it was cozy and really made for a memorable stop.

We stopped here after a huge hike in Glacier and needed some good food, and a lot of it. We got some basic food, but the real winner was the huckleberry pie! We saw it in the refrigerator on the way to the table and thought about it during the whole meal. We ended up having huckleberry pie 2 more places throughout our trip, and this one was definitely the best! The service was great also! Our server was attentive and so friendly. Next time we're in the area, we're going back just for pie!!
