The food here was really good. I’ve eaten a lot of Turkish food and this has to be some of the best in the UK. The meat was succulent and flavoured well, the sauces were perfectly seasoned, and the portions were generous. Would definitely eat here again.

The food is excellent and very tasty. The decor and surroundings are great too. The only slight niggle was the service, while the staff were very efficient they didn't really engage with you and weren't very happy or welcoming. So a nice place just lacking a bit in the experience and atmosphere.

Had the lunch offer, which included starter, main course and a drink. It was a delicious experience. Good size portions, piping hot and full of flavours. Chicken shish was one of the best I eaten so far. The venue is clean and modern and the lady who looked after us was friendly and attentive to our needs.

We each got the 13.95£, 2 starter and 1 main deal. Wish we could finish it all! The Guvec Casserole is good on the stomach and palate.😋

Like a prophet, my father asked during our visit to Durham "what are those red letters across the river?" as we had a coffee. His eyes didn't dart off of it as we crossed the Wear in the rain; his mind didn't wander as we spent 4 hours in the morning around Durham's centre.
Turned out to be the family's favourite meal during their 1 week visit to the North East. By FAR. They even raved about the great turkish wine (Ephesus, Red). It's a very Slug & Lettuce / late 20s English Couple soft velvet new-build core vibe, but it actually works!
The lunch menu is really, really worth it. The casserole revealed to me the secret to happiness. The (unpictured) Akarsu Special Kofte was the best part for the others (50-80 years old).

They had the best lamb shanks I ever tried! Extremely flavourful and cooked to perfection. I could have easily ate several portions myself. That's how good it was. Will come back to try some of their other options as everything else looked really nice as well. The staff was helpful, and the place itself was very spacious and nice, with the only downside being that there are limited toilets and it always had a queue. The wait time for the food could also be improved but otherwise would highly recommend it!

Friendly Turkish restaurant with a really lovely vibe just by the bridge. We had a mixed seafood dish - see pic (one I hadn't seen in a Turkish place before) and so gave it a go. Delicious.

We visited on a Monday evening. Didn't book but luckily got a table. The restaurant was full, even on a Monday, a good sign! The food was gorgeous, I had a mixed grill and my partner had the Lamb Moussaka. Both gorgeous. We can definitely recommend this family run restaurant and will visit again when we're back in Durham!

Visiting Durham today and booked a table for 2 at Akarsu and we were so pleased with our choice of venue to eat. The service was first class, and the food was astounding. We gad the hot Mezze platter for 2 to start and the Tavuk Chicken Shish for our main and it was all incredible, I cannot recommend this venue high enough, you must visit 🤗
