This place has fresh and amazing bakery options! Their food is delicious! Highly recommend!!

Very nice breakfast place. They have a very nice selection of pastries for take out, or eat in and enjoy the historic atmosphere. The waiter told me the bar is made with beams from a nearby mine.

Selection was limited due to pandemic shutdowns. We were here Thanksgiving week and restaurants were closed down to take out only for safety. The items we purchased were yummy and the person that helped us was kind and accommodating. Goods were fresh an beautiful but pricey.

Excellent atmosphere! The live pianist was amazing. Food was very good, chai and caramel latte were fantastic. Seemed a tad overpriced (we were going to order mimosas but one glass cost the same as a midrange bottle of champagne!).

The food overall was really good but right when I walked in the girl at the front, pretty short, had a lot of attitude and was very disrespectful because I was unsure of how to order the deserts to the table. She seated us but was still really rude about it. I went up to order deserts to our table and I stood there for a good while with another woman, she then served the one woman but completely ignored me. Another worker, a tall bald man, had to come and serve me who was very respectful. I then saw the girl staring at her phone behind the front. She was very lazy and had no motivation to be there. This girl should definitely be talked to about this, because of her attitude my experience was ruined and I felt uncomfortable being there.

Stopped in Monday for pastries, coffee and brean. None disappointed. Had to stop again on Thursday when coming thru Durango, picking up more pastries and bread. Definitely worth a visit

Pricey but good environment and great food and drink!

Simply the best breakfasts in town. Pastries are amazing, coffee is great, service is wonderful, and the setting is beautiful. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch their piano player in the lobby. Make sure you throw a few bucks in his jar! 👍

18 bucks for two pastries and two cups of tea to go. With such steep prices one would expect good service, unfortunately this place is lacking in that department. With the morning winter sun shining in, I also noticed they really need to clean this place top to bottom. 10 years ago this place rocked when I came for my honeymoon. Not so much now.

The amazing fruit crepes. I would never have put these fruits together but this dish blew my mind. I don't know where they get their grapes from but I've never tasted anything like them. Really freaking good crepes!

-----09 Jul, 2014-----

Pretty expensive for breakfast but the food was great, the coffee was incredible, and fresh squeezed OJ can't be beat! Definitely a memorable experience. I've been to France a few times and the food was never this good.

I absolutely love the atmosphere in this place. It is a little pricey, but it's worth it. I ordered a glass of orange juice, and the waitress promptly put the oranges in the juicer and delivered a fresh glass. The pastries are excellent. This place made me feel like I was back in Europe.

Great pastries, BUT I finally went for an actual meal after years and years of only stopping for pastries every once in a while. Was so disappointed. Bread was burnt, quiche was meh, French Onion soup was eh... Maybe I had built it up in my head too much. The bill hurt after such a mediocre experience.

I have given Jean-Pierre's several chances, and and only found the quality of my experience less each time. Most recently, I went in and ordered a VERY simple dish that was still botched. It was a French-Dip for god's sake, the meat was border-line rotten, the cheese WAS rotten, the Au Jus was cold and the whole thing was bland, even being rotten! My mother in law got a salad, which was served with bleu cheese that was of course rotten, she was ill for the next three days. Having paid our bill, we decided to get pastries before we left. Unfortunately, we didn't open them until we had already left the store. My wife and I went to split a raspberry tart, I cut one in half to find that the berry was moldy. Not just a little bit, but filled with mold. We cut the second in half to check it out, and it too was molded.

An additional two-cents from a a local: Everyone that I know who has ever worked for J.P has reported a blatantly sexist work environment wherein women are far less likely to receive raises/promotions, and everyone is treated essentially like trash.

While you're in Durango, check out the historical painting on the side of the building that J.P. totally defaced.

Review Summary: Very bad, wouldn't recommend to anyone, ever.

Very Expensive. Looked like a good place to eat for breakfast. I have never paid so much for a breakfast that was nothing to write home about. Forgot what I had but the crossants were good. Bought some pastries on the way out and WOW! I was shocked at the cost. The should put prices on their pastries so you know how much you are spending.

Excellent. One does not typically think French in Durango, but Jean Pierre was a real surprise. We have dined at most if not all of the top restaurants in Durango and I would rate this one right up with all the rest. If they have a shortcoming it is the college age wait staff which is typical of most restaurants in Durango with Fort Lewis College being just up the hill. We forgot to make a Friday night reservations at one of our favorites and due to the hour wait decided to give Jean Pierre a try. The décor is typical of a quaint French bakery and tastefully done. The soft live guitar music made for a very romantic dining experience untypical of the normal Durango dinner experience. I suggest you first order a bottle of wine which entitles you to a lovely generous plate of excellent cheeses, fruit and nuts. We could have called it an evening at that point but decided to stuff ourselves which we did not have any trouble doing. The Cesar Salad was large and excellent and the lobster/crab bisque wonderful. We then shared a generous portion of Bouillabaisse (traditional French soup made with fish, clams, shrimp…). I would rate it as one of the best I have ever tasted. I am sure the deserts were excellent, but we were just too stuffed to even try. Perhaps on our next trip as we will certainly return.

Great service, excellent food. Had a late lunch here last week. Best ham quiche I have had in years, crust was flaky and the filling moist and well seasoned. Perfectly cooked. The best part of the experience was the friendly, knowledgeable and attentive service from James, our waiter. He is a real asset to the cafe.

Good food but service????. Very good soups and salads. Enjoyed a nice meal dispite a waitress who paid us little attention.

Bueno. Had breakfast with the boyfriend here, we were pretty happy. Espresso was good, I had the French country breakfast, which had more stuff with it than the menu stated, would have been nice to know. The croissant was delicious, the pile of fruit was generous, eggs tasted fresh, potatoes were good. My boyfriend had the stuffed croissant and loved it, devoured the whole thing before I finished my plain one! The atmosphere was lovely, the waitress and buss boy were attentive and polite. I didn't think it was too expensive, my meal at Gazpachos was way more pricey and not anywhere near as good or filling. --Oh and I peeked in the kitchen, very clean and bright and the cooks looked happy. Always a good sign.

Tourists Beware, Don't Waste Your $$. Let's get the positives out of the way first: The criossants are excellent - best in town by far. But, that's where the good news ends.

You have to wonder about any place that doesn't post the prices of it's baked goods. Stopped in for a few small tarts one day only to be shocked at the $10 price. Bought them anyway hoping that they would be somehow that good. They weren't.

Finally had breakfast there yesterday when the parents were in town. Service was poor: 4 coffee beverages, 1 spoon, 1 napkin. They forgot to make my kid's OJ. Food came and had to ask for napkins and forks. Ordered a fruit bowl which was massive but some of the food also came with fruit. Would have been nice for the server to say something.

As for the food, a common theme is that it's overpriced and there's no doubt about that. If it's going to be expensive by most peoples standards, it needs to be excellent and it's not even close. French toast was sad - thin, soggy, bland. The old saying that you can make anything taste good drenched in butter syrup was proven true again. My dad ate the omlette but didn't appear to be enjoying himself. The eggs benedict wasn't bad. The hollendaise was too greasy, the dish was luke warm but it tasted OK.

Bottom line: JP's has one of the best locations in town and must stay in business attracting tourists. It's vastly overpriced, quality is lacking from the food to the service. I'm a local and won't be back - ever.

Wonderful, French dip was the best I can remember. Service was very attentive. Was in Durango two years ago and had breakfast that was very good, so we thought we would try them again. Even better than before. You will not be disappointed. Food and service the way it should be.

I highly recommend the bar special - one of the best values in Durango. You order a bottle of wine and get a cheese/fruit/bread plate with it. Also, the lobster bisque is great. Recommend brunch but not dinner

Great cheese plate. Seafood quiche is excellent!

Expensive but worth it. We stopped in for breakfast, and I ordered a croissant stuffed with egg and ham and cheese. It was sooo good -- melted in your mouth. My husband ordered french toast and loved it. We each ordered one small glass of juice, which ended up costing us $8. The fresh-squeezed OJ was very tart. Next time we'll order water.

BREAD. They have awesome french bread. I went to college with the owners son and it was the highlight of life in the dorms when he would come back to school after going home for the weekend. He always brought back fresh baggettes. I have visited the restaurant several times and the food has always been good.

Smells good but food is only fair. WAY Overpriced ! Atmosphere is the only redeeming quality.
