Detroit Bus Company Drunks of Antiquity Historic Bar Tour stop.
This was the first and best stop on the above tour. If not for the pub crawl, I don't know how this place would stay open, except to cater to a very small group of loyal locals and (I assume) a few hipsters. The place is very neat - but almost makes you wonder how it is still standing. The owner and his employees are very casual and inviting, the beer is cold and cheap. If you participate on a pub crawl that includes this place, make sure you're the first off the bus to be able to secure one of very few seats at the bar.
The diviest of the five beats and that is what makes it amazing. The building slants, the floor is sloped, and you may wonder if it's open. Duck to get through the front door to have a great time with welcoming people behind the bar and friendly people around. Great beer and acceptable liquor selections —just don't expect fancy, top-shelf liquor. When I've been on the weekend, there is great live music. Relax and get away from all pretensions.
Tom's Tavern is a great hole in the wall with a huge amount of history! We went there this past Saturday night, and I should tell you, do not ever plan to come here. They don't hold regular hours. They might be open, they might be closed.
If the light is on, they are open. If not, they are closed.
Excellent atmosphere, with fun people. A must if looking for a place to go without going somewhere.
The owner Ron is as eclectic as this king of dive bars. They make u feel welcome and prices are great. Great selection of bottled beers and fair selection of liquor. A classic Detroit destination. Open mostly on weekends.
One of the stops on the drunks of antiquities tour. Definitely a little hole in the wall dive bar. Drinks are cheap, everything was $3-4, the floor isn't level and if you're tall you may find yourself wanting to constantly duck. But Ron is the sweetest old drunk guy.
If you like classic dive bars, this is the place. The owner is awesome. Neighborhood seems a bit shady, but haven't had any problems. I have been twice at night.
Unique"hole in the wall" tavern. Great place to have bc a few drinks and have fantastic conversations with anyone. Wonderful live music and a cool jukebox.
This may be the biggest hole in the wall ever. I love it! The bar is slanted towards one side. Bathroom looks dangerous. Don't be fooled by the looks...it is open. LOL
