I am a regular for their dim sum, served every Sunday from 10am to 2pm, and have been for years. There is only one other place in Des Moines to get dim sum (Chop Stix on Merle Hay in Johnston), and the food, selection and physical space are ALL better at Kwong Tung. Love their pearl balls, fried tofu, steamed spareribs, rolled rice wrappers, shu mais, and sesame balls. No carts, as there are a Bo Lings in KC, due to smaller menu and smaller space. Service is slow at times, so I try to arrive before noon, if possible, too beat the after-church crowd.

I grew up in Houston, TX home of the 2nd largest Asian population in America. I've seen the best dim sum and Chinese in Houston until I moved to the off-the-radar state of Iowa...unless it's election year of-course. This restaurant is my favorite of all time. I made a habit of coming here once or twice a week for the last 2 years and will continue to be a patron here. Service is A+ as always, the chef really should be an town icon for good food, and the setting in this small restaurant is perfect. If you plan to come here do what I do, always sit near the fish tank it's awesome, bring your wife because this place is romantic, at the end of each meal, try their Sake. Totally hits the spot. Please don't waste your time with the critics who have wrote here before, give this place the test. You'll be thanking me later for it.

Just as noted by another reviewer, Kwong Tung shows open Mondays on both their website and on the door, but they are closed Mondays. They also had been closed for two full weeks just before I finally got to try it so probably wise to call to see if they are open before going as a general rule. Finally got to try the egg foo young and it was good. The restaurant is a bit run down and they need to add WIFI, but overall it is decent Chinese, although I prefer Sam's on SW 9th overall.

This was the worst Chinese food experience I've ever had. They served this weird fried egg thing on top of my sesame chicken. My crab rangoons were weird and disgusting, and they gave me this gross duck sauce instead of sweet and sour sauce. The whole thing was a big letdown.

I've only been here for dim sum but its the best in the city if you crave dimsum. It doesn't compare to the bigger cities but we are lucky to have this in des moines. I will need to try their menu sometime but its the spot for dim sums on weekends =) hint... they sell it during the week too if you know what you want. I just found that out recently

I like going here for lunch because it is fast, and the food is better than a lot of Chinese restaurants I have tried. The crab rangoons are excellent. You get a lot for not a lot of money also. Overall, this is a solid place to grab lunch.

Good Dim sum on Sunday afternoon if you have time to wait. Overall, good place to sit back and relax with family or friends. Don't come here if you're in a hurry though.

Food is good, sake is average. Good wait staff. Just don't order the non Chinese food...it sucked. Undercooked and soggy shrimp and fries
