BEST: Egg Rolls..I mean the best. Not thin spring Rolls. Thick Egg Rolls! You can dip your own sweet and hot sauce on yourself. No plastic packets (when you dine in) BEST: Egg Foo Young! If you like this dish, you must eat it here. Several varieties on the menu. My favorite, pork. Yummy warm gravy with it.
BEST: Cashew Chicken and Almond Gai Ding. Large pieces of white meat Chicken.. and lots of it. Also, lots of Cashews and lots of sliced Almonds in these dishes. Not skimping here. Every thing I have had here is my favorite. Family owned. I've been eating
here for 40 yrs. Great food! Great staff! My Favorite in Des-Moines-IA. Judy Butters

Quiet atmosphere. Friendly staff. Enjoyed the sweet and sour shrimp dinner. It was okay, but that's because they included the tails. That's more of a personal preference. What you really need to go for are the egg rolls. Those are next level. I could probably just make a meal of the egg rolls. Plenty of parking, too, which is off-street.

I've been dining at the Rice Bowl since the 1980's, and there's a reason for it - fantastic food and owned by great people! Hands-down the BEST egg rolls and won-ton soup in town. Consistent quality - they do what they do VERY WELL! Thanks for dependably being there while countless other area restaurants have come and gone!

I was surprised at how much I disliked the food here. Everything we ordered was soupy, gloopy, and flavorless. This seems to be a poorly executed throwback to Chinese-American resturants from 80 years ago. I wouldn't eat here again for free. We ordered quite a bit of food and ended up eating barely any of it. What a waste.

The Rice Bowl is a Des Moines landmark. It serves the old style Asian fare on which I grew up, and the cooking doesn't get any better. The cuisine is always fresh, flavorful, and comes with generous portions at value prices. Kenny's, it owner's, gentleness, kindness, and concern for cleanliness and satisfaction warrant added loyalty. This very fine restaurant is primed for takeout for a comforting winter meal. I hope both regulars and new customers will consider their support of The Rice Bowl during this very trying time. Good health and good fortunes to all!

4 generations of the harrigans have been going here. Best egg rolls anywhere hands down. Also the best combination fried rice and fried shrimp. Their sweet and sour sauce is not like all the other places. This stuff is the nectar of the gods! The hot mustard is also fantastic. Service from Kenny and the staff is outstanding. I never give reviews but i am in this case. If you're reading this and trying to decide whether or not to go... GO!

Not quite like Chinese food we have had before. Might be good if you like food a little bland. Chicken fried rice tasted like it was made with old left over roasted chicken. Egg Rolls were good. Service seemed to be overwhelmed, as there was only one server and every table was covered with dirty dishes. Smaller portions, which was good since it didn’t taste fresh.
