This is a good place for breakfast. Omelette was delicious. Place was busy the whole time we were there. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly not greasy at all. Parking is an issue here. You may have to slide down a side street.

I WENT THERE AGAIN 04/12/2022
See bottom of this review.
Waveland Cafe has a variety of tasty breakfast offerings. I was here for the Eggs Benedict . My wife and I went here so I could try their "Bennys" . I have a "top ten" list for these. After our visit I rated these "Bennys" as #1 out of 10.
My rating is based on 3 weights :
70% = taste
20% = presentation
10% = price
The drawback for the "Bennys" is they are only available on Tuesday. ☹️
Continues to be a 5 star rating and number one on my top ten list.

Liked this place a lot, very busy on a Sunday morning. Very friendly staff came and checked on us pretty often, Great atmosphere. The food was good.

Wonderful restaurant! Everyone seems so lively and happy to be there even while it was super busy. Im from Chicago and I’m used to seeing staff burned out and abused by patrons, not here! All the patrons were super kind and patient and all the staff was positive and efficient. It’s always good to have good food and a positive vibe. I just got a coffee and my friend got a breakfast burger. He LOVED it. I stole some fries from him and those are some real good fries! Some of the best I’ve had and I don’t even really like fries. Definitely stop by if you’re pining for some small town diner vibes and an upbeat and welcoming attitude.

If you want a small hometown cafe feel, this is the place to go. I’ve always gotten breakfast here and it’s always been great. Definitely my favorite breakfast place around the Des Moines area! They play some upbeat music and the cooks in the back always seem to be having fun!

All the locals I talked to totally recommended this place and now I know why.. Not only is the energy great there as a whole but the food is delicious. The staff is smiling and laughing and feels like family from the get go, the atmosphere is welcoming. We got 6 different things between us all and EVERYTHING was tasty And I can't wait to come back thru in August to try more... 10/10 my whole family Recommends😉🤙

My husband and I always go to the Waveland on University every Sunday. Our food has always been perfect. The staff there are kind, polite and prompt with our food.. The ladies are always smiling and cheerful like we all should be.

Waveland Cafe is riding the crest of public approval these days and for good reasons! Good food, friendly service, hometown character and history. My only complaint about the "skillet" meal was that it looked and tasted like an omelet over hash browns. Where's the skillet? Parking is a hassle even if you get a space out front - then it's hard to get out. Even so it was a full cafe at 10 am on Tuesday.
UPDATE JULY 2021 - Still humming along with great food and local character. My Everything Hashbrowns had just the right amount of jalapenos for my palate. Full cafe on a rainy Saturday morning.
