We love Gateway! We eat there several times a week and it never disappoints. Our favorite part is the ability to choose a bottle of wine from the wine department to have with our meal. Jamie and Justin never lead us astray with their recommendations and always treat us like we are their "favorite" customers, knowing that they genuinely have droves of favorites. They both have great pallets and will recommend a perfect bottle for your dinner, no matter the occasion.
Gateway Market is cheerful, modern upscale grocery store nestled in the historic Sherman hills Neighborhood. It offers an eclectic assortment of foods and ingredients sometimes only found in smaller specialty stores. Gateway Market also features locally sourced food as well as small regional producers. The Café is cozy, clean with modern style. A fire place at one end and a tall long table in the center, accommodates those who wish to kick back or grab a quick bite at lunch. Easy and accessible in downtown Des Moines.
Nice place to spend an evening. There are many options provided to explore different wines and food. They allow customers to purchase wine and food - and never pressure customers to move on.
I believe Gateway is trying to get back to normal. Our takeout order took around a half hour to bring out - and staff seemed stressed when they dropped the order off at our table.
Other than that, we had an enjoyable experience with wine and appetizers. Gateway is recommended.
Great store! Loved the selection of food products and they have a hot buffet bar too where you can get something good and hot to go! And quite a nice wine selection! Definitely recommend this place!
This is a really nice place and so nice to have it close by UnityPoint while my boyfriend is hospitalized. Their hot food bar meatloaf, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes were so delicious and were a nice break and a homemade tasting meal as a break from hospital food. Their pies and cheesecakes are awesome as well. Prices are fair for the quality.
Great spot for esoteric finds, can be limiting for more daily grocery shopping due to lack of selection and higher prices.
Very odd phenomenon, most people don't seem to use the provided parking spaces, instead parking in the middle of the driving portion where there are no lines or anything. Not sure why this happens, but it can make maneuvering to park in a legitimate spot quite the challenge.
Specific dietary needs ? Variety of snacks or grilling options , salad’s? They’ve got a market cafe with good food to eat there or to go and have a patio. Flowers , treats . They’ve got great options and different. Can’t go wrong . . 👍🏽
