Review Szechuan Tasty House - Denver

This is the most authentic Szechuan food in Denver metro. They are so authentic, if you know Chinese you can write your own menu selection and the kitchen will cook them! Their best dishes includes Fishes in Chilly Oil 水煮魚, Chongqing Spicy Chicken 重慶辣子雞. Everything is very tasty there and the cook came from Tianjing, China and had had her Szechuan Restaurants in China for more than 20 years.

This place has the best food ever. Home cooked. Delicious. Fresh. It's a hole in the wall so there's really no ambience, but who cares? The food is so worth going. I always recommend everyone visit if they want authentic delicious Szechuan food. The staff are great too. 10/5 support local businesses and give it a chance. Get the green beans. Get the eggplant. Try everything.

Great Szechuan food, we wouldn't have known, if not for the other reviews. We had Szechuan meat dumplings, Chongqing spicy chicken dish, Mapo tofu, stir fried garlic cabbage, and beef slices in hot chili oil. As others have said not overly spicy. You aren't going for the inside setting, but you are showing up for the tasty food.

The building doesn’t look like much on the outside but the food coming out of the kitchen is a must try. The eggplant and hot and sour soup were sooooo delicious! This is by far one of the best I’ve had in Denver Metro.

Whenever we're in Denver, we make a point of eating here. My wife is from Sichuan and is herself a very good cook and she loves this place and the people. We both had specials that were on the menu but don't show up online. My wife had fish and beef slices in sauce and I had spicy crispy chicken. We were both delighted with our choices. The dining area is *so* not fancy but it is also like *so* many little eating places in Chengdu. Longing to visit Chengdu? Forego the 6300 NM flight and visit this place instead!

An authentic Szechuan restaurant with many options. The food was very balanced, and not too spicy and numb-y like some other restaurants in the area. The restaurant itself is a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, so I wouldn’t really recommend dining in. Definitely worth trying takeout though.

Low on atmosphere (better for takeout), but EXCELLENT spicy Szechuan! Fast, friendly service, and generous portions at a reasonable price. We had enough leftovers for a second meal!

Holy smokes this is the best Chinese hole in the wall place I've been to. Better than Chinese food you can get in Denver for the same price I swear. My parents have been in Denver for a while too and haven't had a place that hits as close to home as this place. Make sure to order food that Chinese people actually eat and not the typical American Chinese stuff to get your full value's worth. I would recommend trying out the eggplant chicken, popped chicken (not sure English name), green onion beef (also not sure correct name), and boiled fish (mala dish). We've been here twice already and ordered the same things because they taste good. Don't look down on their serving utensils. They use single-use stuff like paper plates, but they give you an ENTIRE water bottle for free! So you can guarantee that the stuff they're serving your food on is cheap and clean at least unlike many other restaurants... Finally, if they're NOT busy, I'd make sure to either take out or order in ahead unless you're fine with waiting ~45 mins because most dishes are made to order and not the same formulas of each other. I believe there's only 1-2 chefs in the kitchen that do all the work since it's family run so they need time to cook.

A couple of weeks ago, we were able to experience a very authentic Szechuan gem located in Southwest Denver. Bear and Troy met us out for dinner. Ambiance and decor: what you would expect for really authentic food. This is not a place you go for the decor. Menu: it is full of extremely authentic Szechuan cuisine. Some you will find somewhat familiar, but most will be a brand-new experience! We started with the fried pork dumplings. They were mouth-wateringly delicious! The dipping sauce was bright and fresh and not too hot. We also ordered garlic chicken wings. They were unusual. The garlic flavor had been baked or infused, and there was no sauce; they were extremely garlicky! Then we ordered a large bowl of hot sour soup! For $8.95, this is an extreme bargain! This adequately fed all four of us! It was rich and flavorful, and not too spicy! Honestly, I would go back just for the soup. Bear has tried the egg drop soup and said how amazing it was in an earlier review. We each ordered an entree which is a huge amount of food!!! I would recommend one entree per two people. Because they were so large, and we were already getting full from our appetizers and soup course, we decided to eat the four entrees family style that in order to try more flavors. Troy ordered the most mild dish, Hunan style pork. Bear ordered the most rich dish, called twice cooked pork with Chinese chili sauce. The pork was what westerners would call pork belly. It was very rich. At first we didn't think we would be able to eat very much, but Troy and I kept digging-in. Bob ordered chicken slices in cumin. It was exactly that. Very cumin-forward. I ordered the Chong Qing spicy chicken. Bear and I found this to be the most complex of the dishes, and was his favorite. Troy especially liked the cabbage from this dish. The consistency of the chicken reminded me of popcorn chicken, but the spicy heat factor was a little too much for my American taste buds. All of the food was cooked fresh to order by a female chef in the back. It was definitely like taking a trip to Szechuan! Although I am not fully immersed in that particular region of China, Bob and I have both traveled to China several times and found this cooking to be extremely authentic. Don't get me wrong, I love American-style Chinese food, but if you are in the mood for trying something really authentic, definitely go support this local establishment!

Ambience is non-existent. Location is easy and parking is available. Service was great. Food was very yummy! Price is fitting. A hole-in-the-wall type of place. I bring everyone here when possible.

Damn delicious food and classic “no frills” setup and service. Don’t be alarmed by mid remodel looks or stacks of vcrs or treadmills in the restaurant. Food is awesome and really inexpensive.

They no longer serve the more interesting options such as pig ear or pork intestines. Menu is a lot shorter now, food was good, atmosphere is definitely a dive.

Purely incredible food! The ma po tofu was absolutely fantastic. My partner got the spicy stir fry noodles which was also delicious. The cabbage and meat were cooked perfectly. I would recommend this place to anyone.

My mouth is watering as I write this review 😂 if you are looking for authentic, szechuan food in Denver, this is your go-to. Sure, the ambience may not be what some may expect but it is an ambience nevertheless! The cook hums in the kitchen, you can hear the sizzling sounds of cooking, the food arrives piping hot. And the food itself is excellent! We've dined in once and taken food out several times. I won't recommend this spot for a date night or family time or anything of that sort if you have set ideas on setting and ambience but the food is one of the best in Denver. We always get the fish in chilli oil, eggplant with basil, cabbage with garlic, mapo tofu! We eat a lot 😂 the service used to be a bit grouchy but this time was very polite! If you are looking for delicious, out of the ordinary, this is a must try!

Great food and delicious! Worth the stop, there are several items not necessarily found at other Chinese restaurants and extremely had fried intestines, eggplant with fresh basil, and pork cabbage with smoked tofu. All were great choices!

The real deal. Fantastic menu with something for everyone. Not your typical Chinese restaurant and therefore really stands out. Can’t wait to get back to this spot and try more of their extensive menu items.

Amazing home cooked sichuan food. So glad we found this place! The beef and fish is a must try.
