Wow this is my favorite brunch spot I’ve had in Denver. Everything was so flavorful! The place looks like an old time Victorian house and it’s beautiful. The service was a big slow for my liking. The food though, five stars. Everything was flavorful and did not need any extra salt or pepper. We both got a dish that had fried chicken on it and to be honest by the looks of it they looked like they were burnt because they were a bit darker but they were juicy and not burnt at all. Had the chicken and waffles, the chicken fried steak, grits, and hot cocoa. When I tell you everything was delicious…I will return and I recommend to everyone. The collards are soo good and so is the jalapeño cornbread. The gravy is amazing too.
4.5/5
Great brunch spot and very well known throughout Denver. It's a great southern - esque food spot that seems to specialize in brunch to me.
Everything was super delicious that we had here. I'm very excited to come back and try more options but you really can't go wrong.
Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the price. It was over $50/person which is really hard to justify for me. We did get drinks with the food, but man, $50/person gets you a really nice dinner. This is brunch.
I'll still be back though - it was that good. Might just avoid getting drinks next time (even though the bloody Marys were super awesome).
The food and service here are impeccable! Very kind happy host, amazing coffee and drinks & the food was bursting with flavor. We tried the breakfast pasta which was amazing and the smoked salmon benedict which was made with super fresh flavorful smoked salmon. Wish we had a Sassafras where we live!
What a find! Came in for brunch, a few minutes before they closed, but was met with friendly faces. The menu is good, a bit on the spicy side but so worth it! I had the shrimp and grits and the beignets... Finished up with a lavender latte. Cannot recommend these high enough. Our waitress was good and there but a little aloof.
Very well decorated! Even though the bathroom seemed in disarray, one stall didn't work, the rest of it was like a fantasy place! Summer garden is available for the cooler evenings and days. Thumbs up!!!
Our first time at the Denver location, and Ofcourse we still love Sassafras! Our favorite brunch in Denver, if you haven’t stopped in, you MUST!
Kind, helpful staff.
Amazing dishes.
Beautiful, delightful coffees.
Their own house hot sauce.
What more do you need? Get going!
Great place for breakfast / brunch with great character. The staff are amazing and very knowledgeable of the menu. The food was absolutely delicious. I’ve definitely found my new breakfast spot in town!
Solid establishment! If you’re looking for standard American eatery, this might not be your place. These guys put their own spin on everything so if you don’t like different flavor profiles, this might not be for you. That being said, I love this place. We had a short wait to get seated, and took a little bit to get our waters and place an order, but nothing too crazy.
Food wise, I’ve had a few different things from here and as I said, they put their own spin on things. I tried the southern sunrise sandwich. I thought it was real good just as is. The bbq sauce has a great flavor that pairs really nice with the green chili gravy.
My buddy had the biscuits and gravy and was expecting your standard flavors… but like I said, they have their own spin on it. He said they were ok but not what he was expecting.
We also had the fried pickles and deviled eggs. The pickles taste like the sweet pickles, so be warned, they aren’t dill lol they are good with the sauce though!
The deviled eggs are fantastic and probably my favorite part of the meal. They hit the spot. Again, different, but fantastic!
I had a wonderful lunch here today. I was part of a small group from lots of places. The menu was varied enough to find something for all of us. I had the special, catfish tacos. Yummy! But when I go back I for sure will pick a Mac & cheese, it looked amazing. We were seated in a lovely garden. I especially liked the tables wete not crowded together.
We all were so impressed by the staff, atmosphere, service, meal and beverages. We really wish we could’ve ate there but had to get takeout because we were running late for an event. This place is fantastic and definitely hope to come back the next time we’re in town.
Was reccomended this spot by a friend while passing through. Started off with the deviled eggs, breakfast shooter, and a snickerdoodle latte. For the main meal, I ordered the deep south benedict. (That consisted of pulled pork, collared greens, corn bread, the normal benedict fixings, & bbq sauce) Everything was absolutely amazing, including the service. 10/10 reccomend this spot if you’re in the area and will be back once we visit again.
