Review Sango Kura - Delaware Water Gap

Just Peachy
Was in the area and figured to try this place out. The hostess and waitress were friendly. We had the tan tan and tonkotsu ramen. The pork in my ramen was juicy, flavorful, bringing out the flavor of the broth and there was such a good portion of pork as well because some places like to be stingy with meats. Also the karaage chicken was ON POINT and super delicious with whatever the sauce it came with ♡ Fresh, perfect crunch and texture. I would eat here again whenever I am in the area again. :)

Sake was unique and delicious. Some really good flavor profiles. Vibe was very nice, even had games at each table and arcade games in the back. Staff great and charming. The food was good. The only food we didn't like was the tofu, it had a very weird texture. But the ramen, potato, chicken was tasty. Don't take sake home with you unless you are going to drink it immediately. Taking a star off because my sake exploded. As did all of my friends. Just be warned of the possibility of an explosion for the keve.

100% ....10 outta 10 delicious! Hard to find a vegetarian broth with flavor, but they nailed it. Sake was light and enjoyable. Staff and owners are super nice. Location is great with plenty of outdoor seating. Will absolutely go back!

Best locally brewed Sake. It’s one of the only 24 Sake breweries in the US as heard from the staff. Small town-great vibe restaurant/brewery!

I was very surprised to find a Japanese restaurant serving Ramen out in a small town in PA. Had to give it a try. Here's what I had: Tonkotsu Ramen and a side of kim chee. Noodles: 9/10 Was very shocked at the quality of noodles. The US has a major quality deficiency in noodles all over the country. The noodles here are exceptional. A lot of body, and just a bit of bite for texture. It's either a good supplier or the chef did a fantastic job preparing them. Or both, Japanese restaurateurs take note. Broth: 7.5/10 I can tell good work went into the broth, if you look at the pic you can see lipids rising to the top. Always a good sign of flavor. Unfortunately I couldn't taste it, it was overpowered by the toppings. Toppings: 6.5/10 Too much going on and the combination of different toppings completely masked the broth, as a result thr bowl lost it's identity as Tonkotsu Ramen. The pork itself was similar to pulled pork, a common thing that American Japanese Restaurateur's like to spin on Tonkotsu Ramen. Not my cup of tea, but the pork still tasted good. My advice is to revise the toppings and greatly increase the quality of the toppings and you'll be looking at an exceptional bowl of ramen. Besides that, this restaurant brews their own sake, which I thoroughly enjoyed! Thank you!

Amazing customer service!! I had tasted their yummy sake at the local farmers market so when I needed a super special regional gift for one of my clients, I knew exactly where to go. They helped me order a bottle of sake and deliver via mail courier, Unfortunately, the shipping service returned the bottle back to the restaurant for unknown reasons…Melissa so kindly sent it all the way back to my client. They went above and beyond to try to make sure, I had a good experience! Thank you so much for offering such a cool unique product and going out of your way to help!! —— update* Their Sake has become my go to gift for clients and friends alike 💝

Surprisingly a great place to get ramen! The broth and noodles all comes together deliciously! The service was really friendly and inviting too! The Sake was also really good! You should definitely check this place out for a meal!

Phenomenal food, laid back + artistic atmosphere, and stellar service! This is our new favorite place in the DWG. Definitely recommend the ramen with curry broth and the fried chicken app, but honestly everything was out of this world. To top it off, they have complimentary arcade games which made my son's whole day! They've truly thought of everything that would make a patron happy here and we can't wait to come back.

4/29/23 first time here, but not the first time I've had the saké. The food was really good and so was the service. The saké they brew is really nice and they brew beer as well! I'll certainly be back soon-

Loved everything about this place. The vibe, the food, the drinks. Our party had everything - appetizers, beer, saki flights, rice noodle dish- everything was delicious.

Unique atmosphere that nods to retro art, tech, music, games, vibes. The toko yaki was soft, flavorful and not chewy as octopus tends to be when cooked. The double sake flights with an extra shot of sake to complete the list was a great way to taste test all of their sake. You can see the dake brewer from inside the restaurant. The curry ramen was also yummy. I will definitely be bringing my friends over when they come to visit.

After Reading some of the reviews & the responses I've seen from the owners, i was definitely very hesitant to come in and try this place. I Manage restaurants my self and am aware how bad a review looks, vs. what actually happened. So I decided to give it a try! I was very pleased with the food i got, my boyfriend and i went one Wednesday and got a free appetizer with the purchase of a sake fight! We were very pleased with all the food. We both got ramen, and it was absolutely delicious. The vibe of the restaurant is very fun and different from all the restaurants in area. I would recommend it and definitely will be returning!

I'm 53 years old, .. been around. This place has the best of everything: atmosphere, handmade cuisine cooked up by a knowledgeable Japanaphile., there's a small arcade with top choice games,.. (tron, joust, mortal combat..). House made everything. (Noodles, in house beer, and Sake.). Did it mention Sake?,...fresh Sake with brewers active yeast negori style.. best I've had in America! Thank you!

Great ramen and the yaki soba was tasty. Friendly staff. All plates were disposable and no ramen soup spoons available, I would’ve liked to finish my broth but it was difficult with a small plastic spoon. The Beer flight and sake varieties were fun and tasty. Overall, great flavors and a fun place to check out.

Such a joy to come here! The food is great, the soba noodles are savory Asian comfort food, and enjoyed the miso pho this time. I love the outdoor seating with space heaters too. Between the food, great music, games, and a fun eclectic atmosphere this is an awesome place to hang out. If you're in the Delaware Water Gap area stop by or otherwise it is worth a trip of its own.

If you told me 15 years ago that the Water Gap Diner would be serving Ramen and brewing their own sake in the future, I'd have laughed. I'm glad I didn't know what was coming, it would have taken away from the shock of it all. Sango Kura is something I needed, without knowing how badly I wanted it. Traveling 2 hours for Ramen is a thing of the past. Getting a plate of hot, delicious noodles locally is a reality now. Did I mention they brew their own Sake?! My buddy Jake accompanied me for this trip as he was a seasoned veteran of the Water Gap Japanese delights and I needed some guidance...and a night hanging out with a great friend. He is also a Sake drinker, which helped as well. I typically am not much of a sake guy myself, but I was intrigued looking at this menu. They had a sake that was aged in Bourbon barrels. Bourbon...is something I do. A lot. This tasted nothing like any Sake I've ever had before, in a very good way. I ended up having 3 glasses. I nearly bought a bottle to take home, and will definitely be doing so in the near future. For an appetizer (on Jake's suggestion) I went with the "Tako Yaki". These were basically just a ball of octopus that had been battered and had some sauces and some bonito flakes on it. I am always weary when ordering octopus dishes out...any duration too long and you've got yourself a goodyear appetizer. These were excellent. Soft and the octopus was a bit firm with great flavor. The sauces played well off of this and the bonito flakes were a fun dancing addition to the dish. Would absolutely order these again. For the entrée, now that I've talked about ramen 15 times...I didn't get ramen. The "Yaki Meshi" just caught too much of my attention for me to ignore my urges. This fried rice dish (enough rice to feed 3 people honestly) had cabbage, mushrooms, pork, and a fried egg. I ordered it extra spicy and it was just spicy enough to make me happy, but nothing overbearing at all. Another dish I'd certainly re-visit, but I do believe next time in I must try the ramen. Of course the time after that I'll need to try the Yaki Soba. Seems as though I have a lot of trips planned out. Sango Kura, zero doubt about it, Delaware Water Gap, PA - Didn't Suck!

Cool spot with great atmosphere, delicious food, really nice sake and beer and super friendly owners. The gyoza, picked cucumber salad and tan tan ramen were all so good. Highly recommend stopping by for some food and beverages.

Went here with a friend, it was very cool! The setting is nice and very low key, the waitress was very very knowledgable about Sake and, most importantly, all the food we ordered was very good. The Shoyu ramen was tasty, the noodles were definitely made in house, and everything had a pleasant, deep flavor... like it should!

We have been stopping in every week to try something new off the menu. Everything has been incredibly delicious. The decor is awesome (as they go through “de-greeking” the place) and the service is quick and friendly. It’s also cool knowing that sushi and sake are coming soon! Happy to have this place in the Gap.

Was so excited to see a place around here that offers okonomiyaki!! So hard to find outside of a city. Staff was very friendly, fast service (though I was the only one there except for a group of 3 that came in a little after). Started with the gyoza dumplings, delish, loved the sauce and the crispy scallions. The okonomiyaki was huge! very filling, tasty. A bit heavy on the Japanese bbq sauce for my own tastes, but thats something I can ask for less of next time. Big slices of prok, chock full of veggies. I will definitely be back.

Can't say enough great things about Sango Kura. Fantastic fresh food right in the middle of the Water Gap. A must visit if you're coming to the area!
