Duck-in Grille

Do not go here if you cannot handle cigarette smoke. This bar is so great. Friendly, low key, affordable. Margie (i hope i spelled that right) is a great bartender. Killer bloody mary (maria in my case). She was extremely welcoming as were her regulars. I was in from out of town, and they made me feel at home. 10 out of 10.

Nobody knew my name when I walked into this Boston bar yesterday. But that's o.k. It's been some time since I had a beer there. In fact, the black cowboy hats hanging from the ceiling are long gone, I learned. Of course, I learned that from talking with a handful of regulars who were busy talking and drinking. The bartender, Margie, also joined the locals in conversation. And after I introduced myself, she even served up a friendly "Welcome back." In short, it was just what I needed. It's been a long three years for my elderly dad and me, and I needed some time away to just talk to people. And the regulars and bartender were willing to talk, even though they didn't know me or my name! Cheers!

Wayside Inn was an exciting find for me as I was staying right across the street at the Tru by Hilton. I made two separate stops in one day and was welcomed during both and enjoyed my visit. Seems like it’s a local place with smoking allowed but that is something I love to find. I prefer this kind of bar to a hotel bar anyways so the location and authenticity was amazing. They also had a hula hoop on the wall I wanted to use (or see someone else use) but unfortunately never had the opportunity.

For what it is, and what it's supposed to be... It's 5 stars. This is NOT an uppity bar. This is a bar where people smoke inside. This is NOT a bar for fancy drinks. This is a bar where locals congregate. This is NOT a bar observing social distancing nor COVID precautions. So, with that said, if you're looking for a local watering hole that has cold beer and no frills, this is your place.
