Great little hidden gem in Dana Point, we had the pleasure to meet the owner Mercedes, this time we sat inside and we were able to learn about the history of the restaurant, family owned for over three decades, great food with authentic cuisine and flavors, super attentive staff, great outdoor seating and cozy atmosphere inside. Our food experience was also very good and flavorful and Joanna provided excellent service.
We heard that the Pozole and Menudo are a must try… For sure we are coming back for that!
As soon as i sit down they bring fresh chips and salsa to the table. Then I ordered shrimp cocktail with a full size guacamole. Didn't take too long to come out but boy I was grateful I ordered a full size guacamole 😂 and not 1/2 (very small portion). Food was tasty, servers are super nice, overall I had a great experience and will continue to come back when I'm In town.
This is only the second time eating here, and I Absolutely LOVE IT!!
The servers are all very friendly and attentive, and really know how to take care of their guests.
The food is outstanding, and the chips and salsa are both fresh, delicious and Satisfying to the Palate and the Prices are very reasonable and budget friendly.
I will be back at least every other week, and will keep Carlos Mexican a staple in my Dana Point Lifestyle.
We’ve been going to Carlos for years. Always a wonderful meal and experience. Friendly attentive service every time. They’ve updated the menu. I tried the new shrimp
salad and I can honestly say that it was the best shrimp I’ve ever had. At least 8 ( maybe ten) huge shrimp deliciously seasoned and perfectly grilled. There were many fresh vegetables in addition. I had to take about half home. I had that later on and the shrimp was equally delicious cold. Another favorite entree is the chili verde enchiladas. Oh so decadent. Always perfect beans whether de la ola ( just boiled) or refried. No wonder this is our default place to eat when we have an impromptu meal out.
Great food and a good price too. Sat outside on a beautiful night. They had a bunch of local ukulele players playing and singing outside. Had margaritas, chips and salsa to start, both were great. The food service was fairly fast the atmosphere was fun as well.

My only tiny complaint is that we were a group of reuniting frienss that were enjoying sitting and catching up and we were nudged that they wanted to turn over the table. It wasn't busy or necessary.
Still, I can't wait to go back.
Easy and casual dining with great patio and excellent service. Warm and friendly staff. Perfect Mexican comfort food. Bonus points to tequila other than Tito's!
Went here for a bachelor's party. The service was phenomenal, even with us having 12 rowdy men and the restaurant being pretty busy. The servers were so kind, fast with refills, and made the experience memorable. The food! Wow, the food was so good!! The salsa is to die for, the guacamole is creamy and flavourful and the posole was even better than homemade posole! It was like comfort in a bowl with melt in your mouth pork and a creamy broth. We will be back soon to enjoy another great time.
Very friendly staff. Most people go here to drink alcohol, but I just went for coffee and soup because I was sick from a very severe sunburn. My waiter, Jorge, was very kind. I ordered the Tortilla Soup. I like to think I make a decent Tortilla Soup. But after tasting their soup, I’m second-guessing myself. It was amazing. If I lived nearby, I’d be ordering it by the barrel every week. I noticed they had some out of town customers, but they also had regulars too. It was a good mix, and had a casual, relaxing, beachy atmosphere. I liked the vibe, and I’ll definitely be back, hopefully with no sunburn next time.
