Metcalf's Submarine Sandwiches

I'm from Maine, grew up close to Damariscotta and Metcalf's has been there since I can remember. I now live in Vermont but every time I come back to visit my Maine hometowns and spend time in Damariscotta I always stop at Metcalf's and get a chicken salad sandwich. Their chicken salad IS THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD in this region of Maine. It is so delicious!! And their breads are yummy, so it makes the entire meal extra worthwhile. I love the interior and their big colorful menu on their chalkboards. Very coastal Maine-ish. I recommend taking food out to go and sitting by the pretty Damariscotta Harbor. Can't beat it. I want their chicken salad recipe, it is THAT amazing!

I’ve been coming here regularly since high school! The subs are the BEST you will find! They have amazing fresh baked goods on display (make sure to snag one when you order, they go quick!) And if you’re super lucky, they’ll have their DELICIOUS stuffed pickled cherry peppers! I waited patiently for 2 years until they finally had time to make them again (it takes weeks to make 😩) and just HAD to buy multiple jars! Every Friday they have Buffalo Chicken soup which is to die for! I actually craved it so bad while pregnant, the owner drove over an hour out of her way to bring me a gallon! If that doesn’t say excellent ABOVE AND BEYOND customer service, I’m not sure what does! You will undoubtedly have an amazing experience when you check them out! And when you stop in, tell Julie how amazing her food is! She puts a lot of love into everything she makes!

Metcalf's makes some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Their soup and most importantly their mac & cheese are the ultimate comfort food. Their fresh homemade bakery items, especially the whoopee pie (available on Whoopee Wednesday) are the Best! Their prices are more than reasonable and portions are large. I always have leftovers for the next day.

Amazing sandwiches and sides! They are always made with fresh ingredients and rounded over. You won’t leave hungry!! Don’t forget to check out any baked goods on display - they’re worth it! We are always treated so kindly by Julie and Staff. They work efficiently and aim to please. 5 stars, and two thumbs up!
