This is an adorable gem at Snider Plaza. My best friend and I stopped at Half Shells for lunch when we arrived to Dallas from Austin. We were famished so we got to try a few items on the menu. Here's what I have to say about Half Shells:
Atmosphere: the place is small, cozy and beautifully decorated. The seating is comfortable and appropriately spaced.
Service: Alex was our server. He was incredible. He was hospitable, attentive and came around regularly to check in on us, refill our waters. The food was prepared and brought to us in a timely manner. They also made sure our entrées didn't arrive while we still had appetizers (personally, I find it a bit overwhelming when everything comes at once and defeats the purpose of having apps and entrées).
Now onto the star of the review:
Food: OMG, that's all I have to say. No I have more to say, haha!
For appetizers, we ordered the Oyster Nachos and Chargrilled Oysters. The photos don't do it justice, honestly. The oysters were cooked to perfection and just melted in your mouth. Not overpowering and wonderfully combined with the other ingredients. We were hesitant about trying the soups because we had ordered a lot of food, so Alex later brought us samplers of each soup and omg, I wish I had room for more. I'd consider this my dessert!
For our entrees, I ordered the Seafood Platter and Rainbow Trout. So well done.
Overall, one of the best places I've eaten at. I highly recommend you stop by if you're in Dallas. And for us Austonites, I think it's worth the drive! ;)

Tiny little hole in the wall with way too many tables crammed inside. If you are claustrophobic, this is not your jam. But, the food was great, especially the lobster and shrimp grilled cheese and oyster poboy. It did take forever to get our checks and drinks, but the attitudes of the wait staff were spot on friendly and cheerful. I will definitely go back.

First visit here and everything was delicious!! Our waiter, Arturo, was great and asked if we'd been before. We said no and a manager, Tony, came out to give us a complementary soup sampler for us. I would absolutely recommend this place and we will be back when visiting Dallas again. We had oysters, shrimp nachos (recommended by Arturo) and shrimp tacos.

Omg! The oysters here are amazing. I mean I thought they were great at another place but these are just as good to me. I love oysters but they were a lot smaller than usual. I like the vibe in the restaurant. I went early so the Peking was a little easy.

Awesome place! Their oysters are always delicious, and we usually get the Gulf Oysters! Last Wednesday they had half off wine which made their wine prices reasonable. 😅 I love the rainbow trout and ruby red. Even the fish and chips are delicious. The fish with the chips is always wonderfully fried. Portions are pretty good too because I'm always too full for dessert after. The wait staff has always been friendly and offer the best table service. I've never felt ignored and I feel the waitress coming as my cup empties lol. It can get busy here and kind of hard to find a seat at times!

I had a great time for happy hour and dinner with my friends. Chargrilled oysters were good. The bread pudding was amazing especially with ice cream. Drinks were good as well. The service was amazing. Shout out to Lou and Fernando for making it a great experience.

My step mom ate three orders today !
And then she gave me orders to go get her bread pudding… They accidentally gave me banana pudding, so I called them and the manager and Avery were so nice that they gave me the bread pudding and added a Keylime pie for free and apologized, and I was very impressed with the service. Everything that they serve is amazing in the atmosphere is really cool and intimate.

Oh yeah and you have to try the crab bisque oh my God it’s heavenly.

I stopped by for lunch yesterday with my friend and we had the pleasure of getting Lu as our server! She was great, never had to ask for anything and she was perfect at suggestive selling. Throughout our visit the manager Fernando exceeded our expectations with his genuine care for showing TRUE hospitality which is rare these days. We will 100% be back to this location, the service we got form everyone was great. I wish I could give them 5++++ stars!

Where do I even begin, Half shells is one of my now fiance and I's favorite date night location, and this 5 star review is long overdue! We found this place through a google search as decided to give it a try, since we both love seafood. We were blown away by how friendly the staff was and welcoming. Their seafood is fresh, and very reasonable in comparison to anywhere else. I decided back in may, to propose to my fiance at their restaurant, and called a few days before to see if they would help with the execution. They were more than happy to help out, and made our special moment even more special. The owners are genuine and honest, and their food is top notch. If you haven't eaten here yet, then what are you doing??? P.s. I waited tables for 8+ years, and their service is top tier!

Delicious, flavorful food! Enjoyed sampling the soups, though I can only have the clam chowder since that’s the one that’s gluten free. Nice little treat since I eat seafood every once in a while, it was jam packed with flavor and friendly service. Art is a cool dude, great bartender to chat with. Nice place to go on a Thursday for happy hour. :)

The staff is super friendly. We told them it was our first time here and they were very informative of the menu, sent us a sampler tray of their local favorites, and extremely friendly. They make you feel welcome and like a family member.

I stopped by this place for lunch yesterday and it was packed with customers (which says a lot about a place). We elected to sit outside and got the fish and chips with an extra side of Cole slaw. The fish was amazing! Perfectly battered and flaky. It was very juicy and the batter was perfectly seasoned. The fries were a bit greasy but they were terrific!! The Cole slaw was ok..... a very sweet vinegar and sugar slaw....meh. I definitely recommend the fish and chips at Half Shells. Everything that they brought out to other tables looked amazing too. Highly recommend.

Came in for lunch on a rainy day. We did the clam chowder, gumbo, crawfish, fish & chips, and fried catfish. The chowder was ok, needed some Tabasco to help it out, but the gumbo was very tasty. The crawfish had way too much clove in the seasoning. Both the catfish and the fish and chips were ok...fries were very good but the slaw tasted like straight vinegar.
Service was perfect and the ambiance was great.

I had the best experience here. The manager Avery was so nice and had me try the welcome wagon with a sample of their gumbo, jalapeño soup, clam chowder, crab bisque, and firecracker shrimp. All was so delicious. My waiter and bartender was Gino. He is AMAZING… He is very knowledgeable and suggested I try the fish tacos and spicy margarita. The food arrived very quickly and was very delicious. My drinks were also very delicious. Gino is very attentive, calm, and has great customer service skills. Thank you all so much. I will def be back very soon to try more items from the menu! 10/10 highly recommended!!!

Great place to eat seafood! My sister and niece came from Lubbock to visit and wanted great seafood. Almost got up and went next door because the place was so loud, and I mean they were screaming over each other! They finally seated us in another area ...or we were out of there!

I came in an hour before closing and the restaurant is pretty much shut down. The servers were clearly not interested in serving anymore. And the food was edible, to say the least. Overcooked bacon in my shrimp and cheese grits, which lacked cheese, yucky! A great dish gone wrong. First time I've eaten a not so good shrimp and grits.

This place is great! Small and intimate and thebfood was delicious. I ordered one of the specials of the day - flounder. It came with rice pilaf but I asked if I could have the jalenpeno cheddar rice. They were happy to do that and it was so good!

Half Shells has several half sister restaurants in the DFW area, but....The original in Snider Plaza is, hands down, the best! Plus, its ambiance adds to the visit, the Bourbon Street look and feel, and even the music sets the stage for being right there in the Quarter. There is no substitute for Half Shells in Snider Plaza, Dallas, near SMU.
