Service was quick and friendly. I had the brisket tacos which were excellent. Matt's fries as an appetizer were lacking. Maybe a little pricey for the food but it was very good overall.

1st time here. Was spur of the moment. I had fried catfish… was delish! Recommend! Raspberry margarita - uh yum! No pic because I drank it all! Wish they were open later. Was a relaxing place and music playing would play a mixture of country, oldies & spanish. Very nice atmosphere! I’ll be back, don’t know when but hopefully soon!

This is one of my favorite restaurants! Yes, this is run by the same family as Matt's in Austin that I enjoyed while in school at the University of Texas. Start off with a Bob Armstrong appetizer and the you must try a Chicken Chile Relleno with carne sauce or a Chicken Stuffed Zucchini.

One of my favorite places continues to "wow" me with its outstanding service and delicious Tex-mex. I'm talking about Matt's Rancho Martinez on Skillman in the Lakewood district. I came early, around 5:30 pm, and got seated straight away. If you are planning on eating here on a Saturday night, it's a good idea to call ahead for a reservation. However, I have never waited longer than about ten minutes for a table at Matt's, and that includes peak hours. For my meal this trip, I decided on the Beef and Guacamole Enchiladas with sour cream.
Spanish rice and refried beans are also included with this meal. I inquired of my waiter if Matt's made their own tostadas because they taste so fresh. He informed me that indeed they do make them on-site. In fact, the tostadas at Matt's are never older than two hours old. That's freshness you can taste and just part of the reason I keep coming back to Matt's Rancho Martinez.
My waiter prepared for me a free take-home bag of tostadas since I was obviously a fan of them. My food came out quickly and my chip bowl never went empty. One of these evenings when it gets a little cooler I'm going to try eating out on the patio and take in the street ambience of Skillman. If you like margaritas, Matt's has one of the best in town. Family owned and operated for over 70 years, Matt's Rancho Martinez should be on your radar if you like quality Mexican food and great service. Also, check out the Grilled Fish Tacos-delicious!

Great place. Being from Austin I know their sister restaurant, Matt's El Rancho, so this was a fun adventure. The Bob Armstrong dip is a classic and the grandfather of all queso. The service was wonderful and the drinks were nice. It was exactly as I was expecting.

This is the real Lakewood-ers TexMex. This comida consistently makes mouth watering plates of Texas style comfort food. Chilies relleno, tacos, and margaritas. Try the chicken fried steak Bob style...you only live once.

Went here upon the recommendation of a friend. The service was adequate and the portions were soooo generous. The chips and salsa are amazing and I had grilled zucchini with chicken. Was very tasty but the rice was a bit dry. Otherwise, the outside dining was lovely withisters and the skinny margarita was delicious! Definitely worth a try!

Ryan is the best waiter I have ever had at Matt's; he is amazing at his job, smiles & takes care of his customers/tables. I have been a Matt's "regular" for years. Wasn't impressed w/ Super Duper 100 watt BRIGHT lightbulbs over the bar....bar lacks ambiance it once had; needs to be toned down a bit, made a bit more cozy for for "chilling out" & having a drink... other employees lack personality and smiles. Food was excellent.

YUM!!! Matt's Ranchero is some of the best food in the world. I have LOVED it since my first time when it was a few blocks north in Lakewood. Everyone who works here is friendly,kind,and understanding of customers requests and special diets.
I have never had a bad experience at Matt's and the tortilla soup will heal anything.

We came for the first time to try our new places and let's just say never again... My green enchiladas were terrible... it tasted like the open a can green sauce and just poured it on top and added salt lots of salt! Not authentic at all! And I love green enchiladas .. The margaritas were not good either..

Worst Tex Mex food. Dried rice, beans cover with too much cheese and Chile Relleno was gross. Service was slow and the waiter didn’t greet or say anything besides “ready to order?”. He didn’t check on our table for water refills or anything. I don’t know how people like this place. 🤔

Food was good. Service was terrible. I thinks we had a new waitress. She got the order wrong for all 3 of us. And was confused by questions we had about menu. I'd be more kind if she would have apologized or if the place was busy and it appeared she was overwhelmed. But there was almost no one there.

After years of eating at a Matt’s, we have to part ways. Corporate won’t allow our neighborhood school to place a poster promoting our carnival - because it would compete with Cinco de Mayo business. Really guys? Our school families, our school staff, and many community leaders that sponsored our event eat at Matt’s. Well... we used to. And we absolutely know where we aren’t going for our after party on Saturday. We’ll do MiCo’s instead... I can’t give a business my money if they aren’t kind to the community and this decision was not kind.

I've been a fan and loyal patron of Matts of Lakewood for many years. This is Tex-Mex at its very best. My favorite plate is the chili relleno with chicken or shrimp and topped with green sauce. And don't forget to try a Margarita before 7:00 pm for Happy Hour prices.

I am exstreamly picky about how my food is prepared , presented on the plate, and how I get it presented to me... On several occasions I have frequented this establishment and not 1x have I ever had any issues. Pri$e is right & the food is PERFECT. NOT to mention last night the bar tender never hesitated when I walked in at closing time ordered my Spinach Enchiladas rice & charro beans with queso and bloody Mary... kudos to the Cook and to the bartender my drink was made no Tabasco as requested and my food was made in a very timely and accurate manner the bartender as well present in my food and never once was irritated or at dismay because I came in at closing.
