Review Uncle Julio's - Dallas

Chris Henderson
Great place to go for special occasions. We were celebrating my friend's birthday with a chocolate pinata. If you go it's a must have. There were 3 types of fajitas - vegetable, chicken and beef. I'm not a beef eater but this was good. I had chicken enchiladas they were pretty good. I love the freshly made tortillas. Try them. The table side guac preparation is awesome.

Our server at this restaurant was exceptional. She took the time to ensure that everyone got exactly what they ordered, answered all of our questions and made sure that we had a great dining experience. There are really only two vegetarian items on the menu, but this is typical of Mexican restaurants. I had the quesadilla, which was good. Would go here again if I'm hanging out in this neighborhood.

Started with a couple of really well made Mojitos. Then tried the Jalisco fajitas. They were amazing. Jumbo grilled shrimp with dipping butter, tender steak and perfectly cooked chicken. It came with a side guac, sour cream and cheese. Three kinds of grilled peppers and onions. With a generous portion of freshly made flour tortillas. For dessert with tried the chocolate pinata! Large chocolate pinata that we got to crack open and out spilled crispy churros, fresh pineapple and fresh strawberries. With mounds of fresh whipped cream and chocolate dipping sauce on the side. This dessert is fun and delicious. Service was great. And manager circulated throughout restaurant making certain all were happy. 10 out of 10 definitely recommend!

I took my daughter here for her birthday. We ordered el jefe margaritas with salt and pepper on the rim 😋 My fajitas were sizzling. I always get full off 2 tacos. Rice and beans were pretty good. House guacamole and habanero honey bacon wrapped shrimp for appetizers. Order the chocolate piñata 🪅 that was fun and enjoyable experience. Yall did an awesome job thank you. The manager came to check on us 2x. Which was nice.

You know the brand, if you don't you need to try it. Step above Mexican food. Great taste, good flavor, old favorites and some unique plates. The staff her is friendly and knowledgeable. Manager stopped by the table. Clean and comfortable. Have you ever tried the chocolate piñata, next time you have a big group try it. You will always want to take a group just to eat it. Parking can be a challenge, front door is not where you would expect it. None of that takes away from the food and service.

Food was really good. Habanero shrimp appetizer had a wonderful sauce with kick. The swirl drink is very attractive and the blend goes well together. The tex-mex enchiladas could have used more sauce but were still yummy. Great hot sauce. They need better trained staff.

Decided to get a little lunch with a fellow associate and enjoy the lunch hour specials. My visit was a little close to 1 pm on a Tuesday, so it wasn't crazy busy. My party was quickly seated. The food was served hot and my margarita was tasty. Although I normally like an attentive person serving my table, I do believe it's best to read the table as well. My colleague and I were enjoying a great conversation and clearly hadn't got into our meal. There's not a need to check on us every 15 minutes. So what's not great? I'm not big on suggested tips especially ones that start at 25%. Like really? I don't do less that 15%, but I tip based on service. And keep in mind we split our ticket, so that's 25% per person versus 25% for the total table. Other than that... I'll visit again.

This Uncle Julio's restaurant (Food, Atmosphere, and Drinks) is better than the one in Arlington, TX.

Atmosphere was nice and the food was decent. It was packed Saturday night, so we ended up sitting at the bar. The bartender was nice and chill even though it was super busy for her.

First time going to this location and the experience and waitress was great! The tableside guacamole was delicious (my first time eating). Birria tacos were great, enjoyed the spice, beef enchiladas, kids grilled chicken, beef fajitas, chips and salsa, EVERYTHING was good. Served hot and correctly prepared! The swirl and strawberry margaritas were delicious as well.

The margarita of the month is a blood orange. I think the bartender actually made it even more appealing than the ad looks. Amazing! Love the beef fajitas for 2 and the chocolate piñata!

We had the cheese enchiladas and the Tex Mex. The beef enchiladas with the agave queso sauce was a surprise. A good surprise. After taking a bite, I had to look inside the enchilada to see what I had ordered. It was super good. Definitely recommend. The sauce makes it. Recommend 10/10. The queso was OK. The beans were seasoned really well and tasted good. The rice was nothing special but it didn’t taste bad.

Will start out by acknowledging that the food was great and the disclaimer that this review is for Cinco de Mayo when I admittedly wasn’t anticipating the best service. That being said, my friend and I felt hardly tolerated last night. We arrived around 8:30 and were told there was an hour wait, which is to be expected. We are both from out of town and reuniting in Dallas for the weekend and I chose this location because it’s the last restaurant I visited with my friend, Brian, before he unexpectedly passed away 10 Days later in 2015. Anyhoo, we approached the bar to order drinks and hunker down until we could be seated. The bar was full, but we found one empty seat and claimed it. Shortly thereafter we ordered a margarita and guacamole from a bartender, she hardly had time to serve us chips before the bar table nearest the serving quarters/kitchen opened up so we promptly moved and let her know. We were informed we would have a server. We waited a while for our drinks and guacamole, or for someone to approach us and introduce themselves as our server, but to no avail. Finally, we reached out to a passing server, Sergio, and explained that we would like to know who our server would be so that we could re-order the margaritas, which presumably had been cancelled since our move. Sergio graciously took our drink order and continued busily servicing his customers. Still uncertain who our server might be and having forgotten about the initial guacamole order, we managed to request guacamole from another server, he mentioned that he thought Sergio was our server, but it was never made clear or asserted to us that he would be helping us after the initial drink order, so we had literally no idea. I explained this to him and he obliged and promptly brought us an order of guacamole. He was effectively the only person who was at all accommodating without making us feel we were a complete inconvenience to him. 10 or so minutes later we are still awaiting our first order of margaritas, approximately 30 or so minutes after we first ordered them and 15-20 after we placed the second order. We likely would have waited longer, but my friend was able to make eye contact with Sergio, who then spoke with the bartender briefly and we had our 1st round within 5 minutes.... a solid 10 minutes after our neighboring table who arrived 15 minutes after us. Still uncertain of who our server even was, when he delivered our drinks, we jumped on the opportunity to inconvenience Sergio with our food order, which he begrudgingly accepted. I guess we finally felt that we would just have to claim a server with force and Sergio was the unfortunate victim of this decision, or at least that’s how it felt. I say inconvenience because at this point it was apparent we were a problem table and 1+hour in were never asked once if anyone could get anything for us. After offering our 4th unsolicited order of food to staff/Sergio we felt a sense of relief and acceptance when FINALLY Sergio actually looked at us and asked if we would want to place another drink order, we were elated! Yes! We were both relieved to be given any sign that we finally had someone who cared. We felt like the puppies that someone finally wanted. That feeling soon died. My friend, who is vegan, was served her rice and beans minus the order of tortillas and my order of soft tacos came dry with no accompanying salsa. This was brought out by a female server. When my friend asked about the tortillas the server irritatedly replied, “You’ll have to wait, they’re cooking.” She walked away before I could request salsa, which I had been trained, by this time, would be met with no formalities of kindness and basically would be just another burden on the already accumulating list to some poor unsuspecting soul. About 3-5 minutes after our food arrived, Sergio approached the table with tortillas and the salsa I tasked on another unsoliciting server, because at this point, it was back to being a literal free-for-all. He sat them on the end of the table and we both felt like we had just been reprimanded.... again. We managed to grab his attention one last time to get a to-go box and the check. I tipped 20% and answered the service question as “fair”, but I lied. It was awful. I’m just too nice, which is why I’m writing this review. I want to give your establishment and your staff the benefit of the doubt, but it’s unfortunate that the cherished memories I have here are now sharing locale with hands down one of the worst service experiences I’ve ever had and not by just by one server. Of all the staff we interacted with, only one person stepped up to the plate and treated us with decency. Aside from him, we were just another task to be delegated. Another annoyance to be dealt with. Another person to get out the door. 75% of the staff treated us like a problem while only 1 treated us like customers.... that’s insane to me and that’s a systemic problem. What’s crazy is that we literally paid money to be treated this way. Train your staff, I could care less if they’re great servers, but encourage them to be better people to other people.

I won't say this place was horrible , but it wasn't anything exceptional. And given the good reputation it has, I wasn't very impressed. Especially since it's supposedly a 4 or 5 star restaurant. How can you rate yourself that highly and not even train your servers to offer to box up the guests' food for them ? I felt like I was at ihop when my waitress brought me a to go box. And I don't remember the name of our waitress, but she didn't seem very friendly or in good spirits at all so she didn't leave a very good impression either. I also almost got up once to fill my own glass of water with the water pitcher near my table. So overall, I wouldn't say my experience was horrible, but I just wasn't impressed with the service that I cot given the reputation of uncle Julio's and how much they charge for food ... you would think it would be much better than that

We traveled from the East Coast and had looked forward to eating at Uncle Julio’s for weeks. What a disappointment! Service was slow, first plate of food was cold and by the time the second plate got there , we were full of chips and dip. Asked the waiter three times for a drink refill. Probably won’t be back.

I was by myself and group of 4 came in shortly behind me. Waitress was rude and didn’t answer my questions very well. She paid more attention to the group of 4 like they were her friends. My food came out after theirs. The sauce on the enchiladas was nasty, tasted burnt, and and had the consistency of tomato paste out of a can. Prices are ridiculous. I asked the waitress 4 times for a to go drink and she never brought one. Had to go to the hostess to get a drink. Will not be back.

My first time here and unfortunately I won’t be back. We went here for my mother in laws 60th birthday with a party of 16 that we had a reservation for. They told me over the phone that they couldn’t put our party together and we would have to be at 2 separate tables but they will try to keep us together. I mean what’s the point of a reservation we had to wait to be seated anyways. Smh.. I made the reservation anyway because I had already sent out the invite. Not only did we sit at two separate tables but we had 2 different waiters... which also didn’t make sense because one of our tables had a waitress that came out immediately and took our drink order and gave us chips and salsa however no one came to take the other tables order til we went and asked who was the waiter for our other table. The table next to us was extremely loud and obnoxious that we couldn’t even hear each other talk next to us yet the waitress kept serving them drink after drink. Cassie was our waitress’ name she got my wife’s order wrong and bought her a completely different plate that she dodnt order yet kept telling my wife that’s what she ordered .. we also ordered the chocolate piñata that was our whole reason for taking the party there in the first place. I like it specifically states that the chocolate piñata was $20 but when we ordered it, it was $30... they also make you valet park because there’s like 10/12 parking spots in the front. The complementary valet is front ips only but the guy hardly speaks English and isn’t very customer service friendly. The food is good but it’s pricey. I would of definitely expected better service. I was highly disappointed and would not recommended this restaurant.

Uncle Julio’s has been a favorite for many many years! I always know and expect to wait and like any restaurant you have fantastic servers and some not so much. I have never been disappointed and they have hands down the best enchiladas ever anywhere! I have tried the New Mexico red sauce cheese enchilada at other restaurants and they never even compare. I’ll always be back...

We have not been here in a very long time. First of what restaurant has 90%of the parking as valet??? So your pretty much forced to pay for parking. It was very very crowded with birthday parties and grad parties so I will that y’all were busy but our waitress/waiter ( she couldn’t remember)
