Review Norma's Cafe - Dallas

Overall everything was great however the temperature was to warm. I had to fan myself with 2 kids menu. I know in Texas it's getting hotter but the restaurant needs to keep it cooler if your going to have over 200 people and hot food serving. I loved the rolls/ biscuits with soft butter they were the bomb 💣. I dived in quick for those. I brought my own food while everyone ate. Everyone loved their food, before you decide to order what's on the menu make sure you know that their servers everything on a larger scale. Most of everyone almost didn't finish their food because there was so much food. They start you off with delicious biscuits and rolls with butter. I did not know they serve such a big portion of plates. No one complained. I ate someone pork chops and they were good. We plan on going back there again, at least I hope so. I want to try the chicken and dumpling, chicken fried steak, patty melt, Belgium waffles, biscuits and gravy. Heather our server was nice, but I know she was very hot 🥵🔥, Well service so many people in a hot place. Thanks Norma 🙂 New day Oct 8-23 Had biscuits and sausage gravy, was very good. And the waffle I had to take home. But it was yum , yum good. 😋😋🤤

Take a trip back in time to Norma’s Diner is just that. Amazing food and the service is outstanding! The interior decor is old school diner! The booths are Texas flag decorated. The chicken friend steak is one of the best in Texas!! Homemade biscuits and huge portions!! Inside tip… you can order just one pancake for the lighter appetites. Save room for dessert as the cream pies are HUGE!

Food was excellent. Famous for their biscuits! Our family has the western omelette with hash browns and a biscuit. The migas breakfast and also had the CBGB which is a shareable plate between 2 people if your not a big eater. It was impressive on size for sure! The atmosphere is very friendly and inviting! Saturday morning is definitely busy but service is fast!!

Very friendly place, Seat yourself, I ordered the country breakfast, chicken fried steak, eggs over easy, hash browns. Husband got the same. Cakes & pies look good. Carrot cake slice for home. Waiter very very courteous this was a pleasure. Food good. Nothing really over the top. Down home basic breakfast. Biscuits where very light. Will be back to try something else. So far looks good.

Service good, waitress attentive. Food mediocre. If you are looking for southern meals on a budget, this is a great place to go. The sides are mostly disappointing except for the black eye peas. Those beans had some flavor. The cornbread was good and my fish was seasoned and fried golden.

Really fun place with super dope diner vibes. The food was great and the service was very welcoming and great.

Dad said the chicken fried steak was "very good!" The pot roast was great too, beef melted in my mouth, SO TENDER!! Sweet tea was good too! Great place to eat, great service

I ordered the country fried steak and my partner ordered the catfish and both were absolutely delicious it felt like a home cooked meal your grandma would make for you the side of carrots we got was perfect and the fried mushrooms were delicious definitely will be ordering again it was perfect and it hit the spot. The only thing I wish is the to go cups were bigger cause the sweet tea was good as well. Can’t wait to order again

First time in, and I loved the atmosphere in this place! Every staff member we encountered was absolutely personable and welcoming-especially our server, Ronda-she’s a peach! Their gravy was so rich and creamy, and the buttermilk pancakes were a knockout. I would definitely recommend, and I plan to return!

My wife and I were in Dallas for the day and were looking into grabbing breakfast before heading back to Houston, we finally settled on this place. The portions are huge and the prices are very affordable, I highly recommend this place. Everything was fresh and crazy delicious, the cinnamon roll was very delicious and it literally melted in your mouth.

i hadn't been here in a very long time, but I was pleasantly surprised. i was expecting good food in a local diner atmosphere, but what i got was much more. the service was great, Christina was an awesome server, kept checking on us, and brought us rolls when the food was delayed. i had ordered a club sandwich with french fries, and i was impressed. the sandwich was fresh, the lettuce was green, and the bacon was perfect. best club sandwich I've ever had. i will be back!

My husband and I were in Dallas and stopped at Norma’s cafe for some breakfast. This is one of the best breakfast we’ve had in a while. The biscuits are a must have plus their cinnamon roll. The service was great. We will definitely be back when we go back to Dallas
Virgie
Great staff ! Always friendly and talkative!! Everything he said was good WAS !! This spot is our favorite , this one is off Dallas Pkwy !! Definitely better than the others we have tried! And the sweet tea is a must take home !! My pork chop was boneless and that’s definitely a plus!!

Delicious home cooked meal! Had country fried steak and eggs with biscuits. Biscuits were perfect and fluffy, great eggs- my husbands sausage was tasty... like my moms from childhood. I also got rolls which weren’t as good as the biscuits. Side of Mac n cheese was perfect. Lemon meringue pie wasn’t to my taste. Service was great and my family and I will definitely go back to try more of the menu!

Amazing place to grab breakfast lunch or supper. Hungry for pie? This is the place to go. Amazing food, amazing service!

Great food, great people, the staff bend over backwards for you. I have been here with co-workers for lunch, breakfast with the family and it is awesome every time. Our Mimi would always get their pies....their pies are sinfully delicious. Thank you

I absolutely LOVE Norma’s and am a customer for life. Rob, our favorite server, is the best in the business! Friendly and attentive without talking through your meal. Everyone at this store is friendly and helpful and the food is outstanding!

As usual the food was top-notch I had the catfish and all the great veggies that come with it service is good even though at noon the place is really hopping everything really works and clicks one of my favorite places for lunch

Enjoyed the meatloaf... seating was quick but server didn't ask a couple questions that would have or should have asked... I had to get my own silverware , wasn't asked if I wanted any rolls or cornbread or what kind of sauce on the potatoes... placed white told him wanted brown.... I'm a regular at the N Dallas site but my regular server was in the back I was seated in the front..

I was there on 3rd and I hated every bit of it. Didn't even eat 4 bites. Eggs were running w the white, pot were just 0otatoes and fried chicken well we want go there. Toast was so hard and I requested lightly Batch no. 02032018 2/3/18. 11:47am Ck 119. Table 48 It was a waste of money and time.

This was our first time visiting. We found Norma's Cafe to be awesome. The food and service were excellent. We'll return and recommend this Cafe. Thank you!

The okra was undercooked and soggy. Chicken & Dumplings weren't as good as the one's at Carrollton location! My daughter grilled chicken no taste, cornbread dry.
John R Hoge
Go to place for casual and lots of good choices! Also supports many great causes.

I had collard greens, mashed taters, chicken fried steak with corn. I have vomited as least once and my stomach is still upset now 24 hours later. I will not be eating here ever again and that is a promise.

Great food, best Western Omlet!! Tell them real eggs. Been going there 8 years, Owner never has said hello :/
Miriam Nieves

First time to Notma’s Took my wife there for a early birthday brunch. Omg, the food was excellent, and lots of it. The service was outstanding 👍. Will definitely be going back.

Wholesome, fresh and all natural home style food, cooked and served with love!! Norma’s has a tradition of giving back, supporting our communities and city.
David Fleming
Superb omelette and the fruit cup had plenty of tasty strawberries. Only criticism is the biscuit had the texture of dinner rolls. Still very tasty.
Ramona Adams
The slowest service we have ever had at Norma’s. It took over 30 minutes to get 2 hamburgers and the chicken tender meal.
Dana Donnelly
The food was excellent, the staff was awesome plus the atmosphere was great. I will be going back....It was my first time going.
Marian May
My grandsons first place he wants to eat every year when they come over from London!

Norma’s is a favorite for our family. Stopped in and split a club sandwich with my bride. Hands down the best club sandwich in Dallas.

Went here for breakfast on Saturday. Nice retro decor . Had there fried mushroom, mushroom sandwiches and grits. They took some time to get our food because freshly prepared. Nice place if in Addison area for breakfast

During our second visit to the North Dallas area we had a chance to return to Norma's Cafe. We had already visited their cafe in Frisco on a previous visit and the food was tasty, served hot and the 50's Retro decorations were fun to see as we enjoyed our choices from the very extensive menu. We would come back again.

We visited Norma’s for breakfast. It was fantastic! My husband had something that was in a bowl,it had hash browns, eggs, bacon, and sausage gravy with a huge biscuit on top! I had a ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. Both were phenomenal!

Great food, quick service, and friendly staff. Breakfast all day is awesome too. Definitely will be back at this location for breakfast or lunch.

Always good for breakfast: I enjoying the meat lovers omelet with crispy hash browns with toast or if I’m especially hungry the biscuit (no gravy).<br/><br/>Ice tea is always good here and fresh.

Worth the trip from fort worth! Excellent food and service at a good price. I'd frequent a Tarrant county location if available. I'll spread the word.
Courtney Lacy
Service is great! Our server, Andi, was nice and informative. The loaded tater tots were ridiculous and the bread was yeasty and delicious! The only problem that you'll have here is running out of appetite. The chicken fried chicken is tender and perfectly fried with light flaky batter. The atmosphere is fun and cute with lovely mottos like "Life is short...eat dessert first!" I totally should have done this because after the appetizer and entree, I was FULL! Try this place!

Just celebrated 60 years of chicken fried goodness with Norma’s Cafe! My post for Girls on Food is right here. Until next time…just eat it up!

Super friendly staff, and the food is phenomenal. I got the country fried steak breakfast and it hit all the right spots all while not breaking the bank. I definitely will be returning every trip to Dallas (I live in Shreveport)

Back in early December, I was in the north Dallas area for meetings.  On Friday around noon, I headed back towards OKC, and remembered there was a Norma’s around there somewhere.  A quick Google Maps search brought me there.  I got there at 1245, and was seated immediately. I had a bacon double cheeseburger and fries, just about as straightforward as you can get.  The fries were pretty good.  The cheeseburger was EXCELLENT.  Great beef, grilled with a nice crust on it, the thing even looked good!  The way a burger should be.

This place is very cool. Service was prompt and very friendly. The manager recommended a couple of dishes. The turkey omelet was fantastic. You gotta go.
Eating Out
It's Definitely a Greasy Spoon. Norma's is CLEARLY a crowd favorite. Try going at lunch time and there is a wait time. The place is packed. Every seat is full. The place hustles and bustles, but do know this place is a diner, and it's definitely a greasy spoon. You will hear the servers talking in terse voices, "Move, coming through. Don't back up, I've got a full load. Look out, I'm right behind you."<br/><br/>The food is just okay. If the atmosphere was not so inviting and down home, I would have given Norma's a thumbs down. I am sure I will be back. I love diners and the atmosphere that goes with it. It's not rude, but it's not friendly either. I do feel like I could strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone in the place. It has a "real" feel to it.<br/><br/>Food choices in the future will be limited to traditional breakfast food you expect from a diner.
Melanie
Excellent and friendly service. Great food. We all enjoyed our meal. Delicious and flavorful veggie soup, tossed salad and Mac n cheese for the veggie plate. Fried chicken tenders got thumbs up. Ditto for chopped sirloin steak. <br/>The pies looked delicious but we were too full. Pies are half price every day after 7p- so about $6 for full delicious pie.

Met our expecations!. After hearing a bunch about this place we decided to try it. When we arrived the wait for a table was 30 minutes. We actually got seated in about 15. The staff was friendly, the food was good, I suggest the chicken fried steak. We'd definitely go back.
Scott Thoele
Excellent service and good breakfast. Love this place.
Chuck S.
Food was good and plenty of it. I ordered eggs over medium and got one medium and one hard.
Cameron Colombe
Good pie but that's just about it. Overpriced for what it is, bad service, and cold food.

Wonderful home cooking.... They are on their A game during the lunch hour, if you go other times they may not be, but it's aways good.<br/><br/>Try the catfish! I always order it extra crispy.

My family visited Norma's yesterday. The service was great, staff was friendly and service was quick. The giant rolls were very good, they could have been served hotter, but they were good especially with the cinnamon butter. I ordered the grilled pork chops which were very small and then, more like breakfast chops as opposed to chops for dinner. Overall, it was a good experience and I would return.

Good-ish. My favorite places are 50's style diners. After crazing one friends recommended I try this place. I did enjoy the food for the price; although I was expecting a little more nostalgia for a place that raves "Since 1956". They didn't have any fountain drinks that most other 50's diners have like cherry coke, nor any shakes. If you want a bite to eat at a good price it's worth stopping by, but if you're wanting a flashback in time then keep on driving.

Norma's north dallas. Fingerlicks: 6.5<br/>Table-side manner: 9.5<br/><br/>Norma's seems to be a Dallas favorite for breakfast, likely because it does serve breakfast all day. I sampled the biscuit and gravy, which was sub-par for me. The gravy was good, but the giant biscuit lacked the softness I appreciate in my breakfast bread. The burger is also just 'okay'. I usually venture to Norma's on Thursdays because the special is Chicken Tetrazzini and they have broccoli rice casserole. Those are my favorite items Norma's offers. Alongside the huge, amazingly soft rolls (ask for the cinnamon spread instead of plain butter. It's Country Crock but it's delicious and hard to find elsewhere!). Norma's is also good for sandwiches, soups, and salads. I find myself there when I'm craving grilled cheese and tomato soup, and don't have the fixin's at home. However, they only serve that soup one day a week, so you might end up with another choice. The chicken tortilla soup is also good.

So far so goood. I've only had the spicy bites and waffles and they were both very tasty... normas is also very kid friendly and affordable so I have high hopes!

Shared the chicken fried combo (steak and chicken). Very good. Some how found room for the red velvet cake and it was one of the best we've had. But my favorite are the hot biscuits. These things are like crack, I could eat a whole basket.
Lapin
Very good food, great service and kid friendly. The breakfest all day is what makes it great. My family and I go every chance we get.. The kids love it..they only bad thing is you don't know what to order, everything is so good.
Kimy
Great food. If you like home style cooking, Norma's is the place. From tortilla soup to chicken fried steak... Mmm. Mmmm mmmm<br/><br/>Kimy
Love Your Dinner
LYD heard through the grapevine that Norma's on Davis Street had great pie and so we decided to put on our stretchiest pants and take the "mile-high pie" challenge! As you as you walk into Norma's, you get taken straight back to 1956, Norma's flagship year. From the black and white Dallas-themes pictures to the squeaky red-cushioned booths, to the butter-dripping, fluffy, fresh rolls
