Came here on weekday for lunch special $14 Tuna Bowl with my elderly mom. Lots of people there for lunch. Saw few Japanese there to dine in so must be authentic. Tuna Bowl also came with some side dishes and miso soup. Food served fast and $14 included tax that is a bonus.
Wow!!! One of the best meals I've had in the past few years!!! Amazing quality good, everything. The udon was seriously one of the best Asian noodle soups of any kind of my entire life. What a lovely family owned business and cute vibe, including outdoor dining with heaters. Highly recommend for dinner!
A hole in the wall Japanese restaurant. Very good food. Most of the items on the menu are little dishes. Perfect for sharing. And paired well with some beer.
Food comes out slowly so be patient.
Service can be a bit slow when it's busy.
Be sure to come early this place gets busy. So be prepared to wait.
Best Japanese food i had in a long time! Family owned and the food was really good! Eat here if you're in town!
Excellent place for authentic Japanese food. I felt like I was back in Tokyo at some small eatery. You'll find dishes here you won't find at any other Japanese restaurant. Only drawback is the small dining room but worth the wait.
Always loved this place and it never disappoints. The staff and owner are fantastic! The food is great, haven't tried anything I didn't like. Can't wait to be back!
I was impressed with the simplicity and humility of this place when i first walked in for an impromptu dinner with my wife.
The dishes were authentic, flavorful and impressive. I cant wait to come back and try the others on my next visit.
どうもありがとうございますとってもおいしいでした
Authentic Japanese cooking. Probably, last one available in Cypress. I've been looking for such place mostly in Torrance or West L.A. but never expected to find this in Cypress. I had braised fish lunch today, and I'm definitely coming back for Tendon or grilled Saba/mackerel.
I am not Japanese food lover, but this restaurant returned customer every few months. Lunch menu price increased a little bit, but still very reasonable.

I passed by Cyprus College and found this restaurant. Echizen has varieties of small dishes, Uson and large dishes. I order teriyaki salmon and sashimi combo and grilled chicken on the skew salt seasoned. The dishes turn out very tasty.
Service is good.
Excellent authentic food with a comfortable atmosphere. The dinner scene is easygoing and homey; with the kitchen open to the counter, it feels close-knit and welcoming. The staff were helpful and efficient considering the amount of customers at the time. There is a good variety of food and the portions can be enjoyed alone or shared.
I will always miss this lunch place when I used to work near Cypress. Echizen is a mom & pop authentic Japanese restaurant who serves the neighbourhood with classic Japanese home cook goodness. The butter fish is out of the world, lunch price is also very reasonable. Nightfall, the place turns into an izakaya with folks dining at the food bar around the kitchen. This is a taste of the real Japan in OC. :) Arigatou ne!!
Fast, always good food, and discount if you use cash.
Added more: For genuinely good quality food for $10 (cash), it's the best! There is always a unique daily lunch special and even to go is done well. On the daily lunch menu, I love their katsu, several pieces and very yummy. We will go out of our way to come here as we live 15 min away from here in LA.
Came here again and ordered the butter fish set lunch. It's prepared in a very unique way. The filet was marinated with miso paste, but not directly. The chef used a cotton cloth or paper towel to wrap the butter fish first, then put the miso paste outside and let it penetrate without leaving a trace of it on the surface of the fillet. Then the chef will finish the final touch by serving the broiled fish set lunch or a la carte.
It's a small family restaurant. The owner/chef is actually from Japan Echizen area. The food was really good and authentic. Nowadays there are many Japanese restaurants that don't actually have authentic Japanese food, mostly adjusted for western taste. I will go again.
This is my all time favorite Japanese Izakaya restaurant. I’ve gotten to know the owner for the last 15 years or so. I’m a regular there and the food hasn’t changed at all. Always good and high quality. Will recommend to anyone. You just have to understand the Japanese culture and understand how they work. Some customers just don’t get it and they disrespect the chef. That’s a no no.

The best original Japanese food I've ever tried! I had visited this place every time I go to this area and always the food is so tasty and great. I recommend the filet Mignon.
My favorite Japanese restaurant; NOT one of! Very authentic! The owner/head chef and waitresses are friendly. Lots of selections in their menu so bring family and friends as you must find something each one likes. Best part - they take reservations!
Not many restaurants offer authentic Japanese food around neighborhood, please support them before the owner retires.
