Anchor grill is the best restaurant and time. Go after 3 and you will be in for a treat. "We may doze but never close"

I love the anchor! I have been going my whole life. Fun for families during the day and after hours can not be beat. Best home style meals but is cash only. Trust me you only need 1 pancake. Generous portions and always entertaining.

A diner serving typical food with nothing special. A favorite of the late night crowd. But they allow smoking...what restaurant does that in this day and age?

You go there for the experience. Love it - the food is ok, but the experience is why I go. And where else can you get goetta??

Love the "live band". If you're from NKY and haven't been yet, you have to go. Everyone who's said that is right! I first went after a big night of drinking, but have been a couple times when I was sober. I love having the option to get breakfast at 3am or a burger and fries. The staff are always super nice and super patient with their drunk patrons. The food is cooked to order and I can't say I've ever been disappointed. The "live band" in the corner is my favorite. I've never seen anything like it and really love it's kitschiness (it's a word now). Be prepared for anything when you stop by the Anchor Grill, but mostly just expect good service and good food at a good price.

Oh Yeah!. You're a few sheets in the wind, hungry and on course to the Anchor, the jewel of Covington's Mainstrasse, a neighborhood defined by a street with several blocks of mostly bars and side streets with homes. Most of the businesses have been somewhat gentrified, but not most of the homes. The Anchor is at the south end of this strip, around the corner on Pike Street, one of Covington's skid row districts. You're gonna' love the experience, even if you vow never to return after visiting the restroom.

You can see it all from the front row at the Anchor while enjoying all kinds of tasty greasy spoon fare, from breakfast to cheeseburgers and steak dinners, all at rock bottom prices. The Anchor is only partly about good eating, but even more about the setting, which includes inebriated and recovering locals, unique animated Covington kitsch wall decor and friendly folksy service. You'll find no common kitsch like a velvet Elvis.

The Anchor's slogan, "We may doze, but we never close," illuminates its window. For a "full Anchor" experience, start drinking early at the north end of the strip and gradually work your way south toward Pike Street until the bars finally close, then join everyone else at the Anchor for a cuppa' joe and some goetta n' eggs all fried up.

You've gotta go to the Anchor at least once if you've never been. You won't be sorry. Despite its crawl-to location, it seems fairly safe and Covington's finest are frequently present on the set. (If in doubt, just keep repeating, "It's only a movie.")

Great food and a unique atmosphere. It looks rough at first take, but the food is outstanding.

Late night classic. Is it good? Yes. Is it quick? no. But it's open, often and when you really need it. If you don't like cigarette smoke, drunk people, and or cops you probably shouldn't eat at the Anchor. If you can get behind goetta, shitty coffee, and eggs then you will be in heaven.

It is what it is.... I had to try the Anchor Grill in Covington. I had heard rumors of it being quite simply the best greasy spoon in the Tri State. And besides, people told me, If you don't like the food, theres always people watching. Quite an ecclectic group frequent it, considering it is open 24/7.

So off me and hubby went for this culinary adventure. The interior is a bit 1970's dingy wallpaper mixed with attitude (gotta love the plaque with the gun on the wall that reads "we dont call 911") The staff that night consisted of a waitress/grillcook/cashier, but she was friendly and nice.

I ordered a pork chop, and upon the waitress' recommendation the macaroni salad. The pork chop was barely cutable even with the steak knife she brought me, but to be fair this is probably not a place you should order cuts of meat. However, I was a fan of the macaroni salad. It was unusual to be in that it had tomato, cucumber and onion in a mayo based sauce. Definitely different. Hubby had the pork tenderloin sandwich and fries and was quite content.

I think the anchor grill is what it is. You shouldnt go there expecting a fine dining experience. You should go there for what they do best, which based on the other diners appeared to be burgers and fries, eggs and homefries..you know, your typical 'spoon fare.

oh and yeah. Great people watching. :)

A Late-night Guilty Pleasure. After a long evening out, the Anchor Grill is the *best* place to eat a breakfast to sop up the alcohol. Excellent pancakes and goetta.

With a decor and servers that haven't changed since Eisenhower.

(NO)Thanks to Andy's Mediterranean we ventured back to Covington from Mt. Adams where we went to the Second City show. We met in Covington to ride in the same car and after Andy's was so rude to us and we left we went to Anchor Grill. To be clear - I did not have a like "craving" for Anchor. It was simply open and reliable on a Sunday night. If you've done the bar scene in Northern Kentucky then you know the Anchor. Favorite of hardworking people that still want a good meal for a cheap price. And the occasional delusional homeless person. I was almost delusional about putting some sort of food between my teeth. I hadn't eaten all day. If one of those two put some mayonnaise and bacon on my hand, I'd probably try to take a bite out of it. Our server was as sweet as could be and took very good care of us. Christine and Ann got the Turkey Club which wasn't without charms. It came with all the usual toppings on a club with a side of chips. I got my "heart healthy" favorite. Goetta Omelette

Delicious options like meatloaf and chicken & dumplings (my choice this time around). This is the kind of thing I'd eat every day if I had the chance.

Diamond of a find in Covington KY. We stopped by for lunch and enjoyed exactly what we needed out of our busy morning. Friendly service staff, delivered our orders with helpful information. Our meals were fresh off of the grill. We hope to return the next time that we find ourselves in Covington KY.

I really like this place for breakfast. It has all of the classic diner breakfast options. It is cash only, so be prepared for that. I usually get the goetta and cheese omelet with hash browns. Their hash browns are better than the home fries. The home fries can be really starchy and not crisp. They really should be twice fried in a deep fryer. Also waffles are really good. I like them with pecans added.

Friendly staff makin' home cooked food with love. Take a step back in time to your grandma's kitchen to sit and chat before going back into the crazy world. A great place to relax with a date, with friends, or even by yourself. Family friendly, easy access off the express way. Visit from home or just passin' though. Just visit for a refreshing hot food and great company and comforting atmosphere.

Sooo good. Perfect at the end of a long day. Cash only, best staff, good food. We don't smoke, and you can still smoke inside. There was someone sitting very near us who was smoking, but we couldn't even smell it. Their exhaust system seems to work very well and we were able to have a very enjoyable meal.

Pretty good food. Great service. My kids and I got breakfast food while we waited for our car. It's a nice spot for some nostalgia as well! Don't see diners like this much anymore!
