New favorite izakaya in OC. Hondaya was our go to but I feel like lately we had been unimpressed and the wait is always so long. Takaya requires reservations (no walk-ins) but we called the day of and got a reservation for an hour later. This was a Thursday so maybe it’s harder to get reservations o
I have been to many Japanese restaurants in the US and no restaurant can beat this. We live in LA county and we have been traveling 50+ miles just to visit this restaurant. They serve very high quality authentic Japanese food. The salmon sushi and sashimi are my favorites! Other foods are great too!
All of the food was simply amazing, but the black snapper and mackerel were the standout items.
You have to call to reserve a spot & it seems to be run by only two people and family owned. Food was amazing and so was service - prices for yakitori are very well priced (same price as when I was in Japan) and just as (if not more) delicious! Definitely coming back here again.
Remains my favorite japanese food place of all times. The mochi in broth dish is to die for. So are all the yakitoris I had ever tried here! I low key drove 2700 miles to California just for this meal.
Actual Japanese yakitori restaurant like they are in Japan. Everything was delicious and I recommend it to everyone. You’ll need a reservation so make sure to call first and ask.
This place is fantastic, great atmosphere and service.
Started with Happy Hour Beer and choice of three Yakitori: Garlic Chicken, Beef Tounge, and Chicken Gizzards.
Finished with Nabeyaki Udon great broth and a little heat. I highly recommend this place.
The best Japanese food ever!
Best yakitori place!!! Family operating restaurant! Food fresh, delicious and tasty! Strongly recommend it for friends and family! Reservation needs!
We loved our experience at Takaya Yakitori Izakaya. We would suggest calling ahead to reserve a table as it fills up quickly and is a relatively small place. The servers were quick and friendly.
A very quaint and nicely decorated restaurant. The food is uniquely prepared. The rolls are light & tasty. I recommend.
Reservation only(even though there were plenty of table left) food was great, beer was little pricey
Tastes really great. Will definitely come back again. Need to make a reservation before coming in.
The closest to a Tokyo izakaya we've found on the west coast; and a great deal. Can't wait to come back for dozens more tasty skewers.
Reminded me of the flavors I had in Tokyo. Really tasty and laid back vibe.
Super legit place, felt and tasted like I was back in Japan. Had the gyoza, tempura dinner set, and chicken skin yakitori, all very good. As of 6/13/22 you do have to call in ahead to reserve a table if you want to dine in though but the call was quick and painless.
They have a really good happy hour ! Great Japanese food for a great price . Vegetarian friendly as well.
Great Izakaya, had a dinner with my Japanese friend right here. Foods are great but not amazing.
