La Vecina

I ordered the tinga chicken tacos and happy hour guac and chips. The guac was okay, as was the chicken. The tortilla chips were excellent. However, the salsa that came with the tacos was absolutely the worst salsa I've ever tasted. I try to differentiate between my preferences and bad food and I just don't see how anyone could find the salsa good. I wish I could even describe the flavor other than bad, but it was simultaneously lacking any distinct flavor and tasted terrible.

Great atmosphere in a very nice location in Coralville. My husband and I went there for lunch on a Sunday and it wasn't crowded. Our food was prepared well and tasted wonderful. This restaurant doesn't serve average Mexican food you find in restaurants around the area, it's more of an upscale original flavor from southern Mexico. I guess that's what makes it stand out from other places. The decoration is modern, spacious and comfortable. Overall we had a great experience and most likely will visit again.

The atmosphere, staff, taste, and presentation deserve five stars for sure! However, I found the price and portion size to be disappointing. It’s a great place for a ladies night out, but if you are hungry you may leave feeling dissatisfied. I tried several dishes and they were all delicious. The ceviche is not traditional, but I highly recommend it! The tortillas are amazing also but it costs extra if you need more so make sure to pace yourself when dipping tortillas in your quest fundido! Unfortunately, the price and portion size make La Vecina a place I will not be visiting frequently.

This place was fabulous! They make all their corn tortillas in-house and their salsas are absolutely delicious. The chicken tinga tacos are awesome, as well as their salad and elotes. They also have a fantastic fruit mousse that is to die for! Service was excellent; I sat at the bar and Nate was very helpful in providing recommendations. Highly recommend this place for great Mexican food!

Any place that plays Bill Withers "Lovely Day" has got to have something going for it. Really beautiful wooden tables and stylish decor strategically placed. This location was definitely well thought out and maybe even done with an interior designer. It will pay off as this joint may be the single location in the IC area that is this stylish. Caucho in Cedar Rapids might be up there as well in terms of decor. I ate there for a Sunday lunch. I was impressed with the size of the ice cubes that vary per drink.....one of my standards for giving 5 stars. the flavors were true to the region and I will definitely be back. Didn't get to taste the margaritas so I will post additional comments when I return. The only fault is that the waitress wasn't clear on the ingredients of the menu, or the dessert which was not what I expected. It wasn't well described on the menu either. Otherwise a great experience and definitely worth attending. Parking may be a little out of the way and challenging if you are physically impaired, but if you can get there do stop in. MANGIA!

Overall we had a pretty good experience. The server was super personable and checked in often to make sure we were doing okay and apologized when our food was taking a while. We started with Guava Camarons which were shrimp with a delicious bbq sauce. For our main meal we had the pescado and carnitas tacos. The corn tortillas are made in house. Pretty yummy tacos. The Elotes though, were out of this world! I could have eaten multiple plates of that corn by myself! The House margarita went great with our meal. Also gluten-free friendly! On our way out, the manager, Jackie, introduced herself and thanked us for coming in and apologized for the wait for our food. Good food is a good reason to come back, but when you have great service from both staff and management, it’s definitely a place you you go back to!

We went on a Friday night and a game happening across to street. Really great ambiance. It was definitely busy, and the place seemed understaffed. We ordered a total of 3 drinks, chips and salsa, and tacos (which are deconstructed I guess?) and we were there for almost 2 hours. Our server was really nice, but clearly busy. The place could definitely use more staff, both behind the bar and doing tables. Food was just okay and the drinks were sub-par. One had to be mixed with water it was so bad. And considering the price, not really impressed at all and expected more.
