Review Olive Cafe - Columbia

Michelle Beardslee
The food was so delicious! It was some of the most authentic Mediterranean food I have ever had. The owner and the staff there are very friendly and nice. We had a great time talking with them about traveling to their country and their heritage. There's a buffet sometimes, otherwise there's a menu to order from. You can sit down to eat or order for take out.

If there is a more welcoming place that serves food, a cafe, in this case. Smallish, I say, is the dining area due to the food they sell as well as prepared. A majority of niche restaurant serve fresh, high quality, well made food in my not humble at all opinion. This place is a good place to use as a setting, just like the central perk in the sitcom, friends. Ya gotta come to this place and look around. The pictures tell those 1000 words

Welcoming staff, they were really nice. We went for lunch and they offer an extremely inexpensive buffet all you can eat for $8.95 a person. The lentil soup was good, most of the food was hot however required more marination. The chicken was really bland.the gyros were decent. The hummus wasn't good though, I was not sure whether that was homemade. I would go back though to try them again.

Love the food here. Order the tea service. Really excellent.

So wonderful and so fresh this typical authentic cuisine is remarkable and truly delightful. I had the buffet and some desserts with wonderful Turkish coffee. I am very very impressed by this place and their standard of quality. Highly recommended for a fast lunch especially when the buffet is in full order. Almost Perfection to a tee. Super hospitable. Ultra high-quality. You will tell your friends and you will return. Treat yourself now please.

Great service in this very simple and real place! Buffet nice and $8.95 when we went for lunch.

My friend (and former colleague) and I meet here for lunch about once a month. I have never left hungry or disappointed. I could write a book about their bread sticks alone Soups, especially the minestroni, are excellent. Pasta offerings are solid. I just wish their salads contained more greens than just iceberg lettuce. Top to bottom, just good food solidly prepared. Service good, never had a bad experience here either.

Great Gyro salads!!!! Very authentic middle east food. Very friendly owners and staff.

Have only had the gyro here, but it is great. Instead of a messy wrap or just plopped on top of some pita bread, they split it and stuff the meat and fillings in the middle. Best gyros in columbia hands down.

Worth the trip. I'm from KC, thought I'd give a try.Great price, very good food. As with all buffets, try to go earlier. Full menu options too. Very friendly staff. If you like food with some spice (I'm not meaning salty or hot, just flavor) you'll enjoy eating here. Not americanized (at least not by much if any).

Kailin. I love this place! I think it is probably the best mediterranean food in town. Their hummus plate is my favorite, and the chicken shawarma sandwich is also to die for.
My mom and I go here about once a month, and we always get those two things to share. :)

Sandwich and Hummus Heaven!. I was told about The Olive Cafe through a coworker who absolutely loves it. He let me try some of the chicken hummus at work and ever since my boyfriend and I go here at least once a week. It isn't a lot to look at but the food is PHENOMENAL. Especially the hummus and all their sandwiches. The fries could use some more salt but that is my only complaint about this place. The people are friendly and the food only takes about ten minutes!

Mostly good. The good: Baba Ganoush was very good, as was the pita bread (super soft and fresh). My wife really liked her gyro too. Also, the people here are super friendly.
The not so good: While the actual falafel patties in my falafel sandwich were very tasty, the sandwich was in dire need of more filling. The paltry helping of cucumbers and tzatziki sauce didn't cut it.
Bottom line: Pretty good middle eastern fare. Prices were about on par and the people were super nice. I'll be back!

Phenomenal. I don't even live in Columbia anymore but I felt like coming on here and saying how absolutely incredible this place is. Their hummus plate and homemade pitas are mouth watering. It's literally painful to not be able to go pick some up. After weeks of almost daily visits I finally asked how the hell they made their hummus, and the owner actually came and sat down with my boyfriend and I, explaining everything but their secret ingredient :). All around best restaurant in Missouri, and I have not been to one place in Colorado the past two years that has come CLOSE.

Great food!! Top-notch mid eastern food with a great environment. Quality places this cafe over Oasis Cafe, an extremely relative mid eastern cafe, but it falls behind in quantity.

First time in Columbia, MO and stopped at Olive Cafe because of the great reviews! Excellent food!!! One of the best Greek gyro plates I've had. Baba gounash was the best I've had! My wife's Chicken shish kabob sandwich was killer!!! Lentil soup is A-1 as well as the Greek salad. If you like Greek you will like Olive Cafe!!!

Delicious! We had the fava plate, the falafel sandwich and the grilled chicken sandwich--all very tasty. It was about 20 minutes before close and quality was still top notch. Highly recommended!!

Great food and services, as other reviews, but by not having an open mind to alternatives to Styrofoam boxes and recycling anything was a turn off for me to return.

Very good!. Don't be surprised or put off that this is essentially a small grocery with some tables. Everything we have had has been at least very good (except the pita bread, which I understand they have baked for them elsewhere but which I find to be heavy, dry, and bland); the juicy tabouleh and the very rich humus are likely the best I have ever tasted. Flavors are distinctive and unadulterated, and the service and atmosphere are unpretentious and extremely pleasant.

Interesting. For those unafraid to try something new - check this tiny place out.

Awesome!. OMG Thank You! Was down in the COL for the weekend visiting family and got my Arabic food fix. There are several middle-eastern restaurants in KC, some good, some bad and I have to say Olive Cafe can compete with any of them.

I had the kofta platter and shared a platter of hummus, baba ganoush, falafel and dolmas. The koftas were excellent, better than my husband used to make authentically. Even the rice was good. Hummus was a little different than I'm used to, but good and the falafel and baba ganoush were excellent.

My sister had a gyro and fries and loved both. The portions are very generous and we couldn't finish it all. We also came in the afternoon, not necessarily during peak hours and the food was hot and fresh.

We're definitely coming back next time we're in town. Thanks!

Great Place. The food was tasty and arrived at our table quickly. The photo menu was handy for those in our group who were not as familiar with the cusine. There is also a nice selection of grocery items available including halloumi cheese, which should be considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

Best gyro I have ever had. We catered a party and they gave us so much great food that we spent days eating it. Hummus is incredible.
