44 Stone has amazing food! A great ambience, and the friendliest employees. I highly recommend the chicken livers for an appetizer . The sauce they put with the chicken livers is very succulent. You will want to drink that stuff, it's amazing! The mouth watering 44 Stone burger was cooked to perfection. Their colcannon potatoes are reason enough to check this place out. Simply put, the best potatoes you will ever eat. Their beer and wine selection is one of the biggest and best in Columbia. I highly recommend 44 Stone.

Every time we visit 44 Stone we are greeted with smiling faces. I'm always excited to try the newest recommendations of whiskey or beer. The food also never disappoints, mixing fantastic flavors while not breaking the bank. It's not the least expensive place to eat, but very worth every dollar spent. I can't say enough good things.
Easily one of the best places in Columbia. When you first get the menu you may think, eh I don't really know about this with that, but just trust them. Everything I've had there is absolutely amazing no matter how odd it may sound on the menu. The roasted chicken and salmon are my go-to's and the steak or seafood nightly specials are always delicious!
Best burger ever! The steamed veggies were to die for. Definitely will eat there again! Superb service as well.

Staff was attentive and friendly. Kitchen staff waved hello. Food was really good, and so much I couldn't finish. I tried their colcannon potatoes for the first time, and would eat my arm if you smeared those potatoes on it! Potatoes, cabbage, and bacon all mashed together...what could go wrong? Burger was hot and juicy, and with all the fixin's too big to fit in my mouth. If I lived closer I'd have brought half of it home with me. Don't wait...go!
Visited on a weeknight for a dinner with friends and co-workers. Waiter was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the drink selection and food menu. Prices were decent, atmosphere was great. Will definitely be back.

Went to dinner with my wife and daughter. All our meals were very good. Vegetable Chicken Curry: couldn't stop eating it, wasn't to hot, interesting and pleasing taste. Salmon Zucchini and mashed potatoes (nightly special): perfectly cooked, crispy edge with a soft center. Ribeye asparagus and mashed potatoes (other nightly special) steak was cooked properly and garnished with butter. It was flavorful and fully enjoyable. The potatoes were good as well. So the food was really good. The service was nice and watching their team work together was entertaining. They seem to like each other. That is a huge intangible, staff chemistry. I don't know if anyone else pays attention to that, but I do. Glad we ended up here. We will come back.

Love this place is my go too date night. The cheese fritter appetizer is enough reason in itself to go. Always get a side of goat cheese polenta no matter what I get also. I have tried a wide variety of the menu and have only been slightly disappointed once. I love trying new beers. Lastly the service has always been great. My only point of improvement is a better waiting area.
Perfect Sunday Brunch. While visiting a friends who attends Mizzou we were taken to 44 Stone Public House for Sunday brunch. You never really know what to expect when someone tells you that they are taking you out for brunch so I kept an open mind but my expectations were far exceeded. My husband had the smoked salmon hash while I had the tikka masala and grilled apple salad. The food came out quickly and was very flavorful plus it went perfectly with the local beer we ordered! If you like brunch you must come to 44 Stone Public House and experience what your missing!
The deviled egg appetizer is great, and they do a really good special from time to time (the shepherd's pie on St. Pat's was great). And the small pints make this the best place for sampling beer - but unfortunately the rest of the pub is not really set up like a pub. The acoustics make it hard to talk, much less relax, and the tall tables/chairs do not have the inviting air of the same models across the pond as a result. They also have inconsistent service: sometimes it is wonderful, sometimes it is hostile.
By far the best restaurant in Columbia. You cannot go wrong with any meal from 44 stone, they are all FANTASTIC.

Jekyll & Hyde - but lots of potential. We first visited earlier this in February after making reservations on Open Table. We were shoved into a corner table where 2 out of 3 where facing a wall. Whoever laid out the seating needs an education on enjoyable dining experiences. Whoever decides to put advanced reservations at crappy tables needs to wash dishes for three months. In summary, the overall experience (and management response) was so bad, I have no idea if the food on that visit was good, bad, or average.
Based on comments that things have gotten better, we returned. And they are mostly right. They still have the horrific table layouts (if you make on Open Table reservation, make sure you do not list 3 in your party or you might be stuck in purgatory). But I can tell you the food is actually pretty amazing. We shared a pretzel app - fantastic. I had the Tandoori chicken which was very good, and the burgers were excellent to amazing.
The bartenders have an excellent knowledge of the beers. Our waitress had an excellent use of the words "uhm," "I think," and "like," but lack a any real sense of hoppy and malty on beer.
If you want a great food experience, hit this place up, but watch where the try to cage you in. If you want a great beer tasting experience, sit at the bar.

I disagree wither above review. I found the food, beer and SERVICE fantastic. I have been to the majority of these Beer Dinners and have enjoyed every single one of them. I believe that if there was a problem with service I would have brought it up to the owners who were in the room with us. I know they would have made it right. I will be attending the next Beer Dinner for sure 44 STONE ROCKS.
That's right, I said it... BACON SANDWICH! It's awesome, amazing, outstanding, delicious, great, good, wonderful, and beyond that just plain YUMMY! Best in town. I am going to make a bold statement. When you consider food selection and quality, menu creativity, beer/whiskey/whisky selection and quality, culinary and beverage knowledge, service and price, this is the best restaurant in Columbia. There are many unique items on the menu, and even common items have an uncommon twist. The chef's personality definitely shines through all of his dishes, and it is evident he puts care into all preparation. There are 12 beer taps, and all of them have fine craft beer flowing at all times. 'No crap on tap' is an understatement. Their beer bottle selection is great, and there are some gems aging in the beer cellar. If you like Scotches or Irish whiskey, they have a wonderful selection of those as well. I have never experienced anything but superb service, and the wait staff is able to make great recommendations for both food and drink if needed. To top it off, all of that comes at a very reasonable price. My only complaint is that 44 Stone opened shortly before I left Columbia and I can only enjoy it occasionally when I am back in the area. It is a must-visit!
Cheese Fritters!. The cheese fritters at 44 Stone are incredible. Fried balls of cheese with bacon pieces served with a delicious sweet mustard for dipping, these are SO good. I craved them several times while pregnant. Spend the $7 for them, you will not regret it!

So excited to find this place in mid-Missouri! Welsh-rarebit, awesome sweet-beery-cheese goodness. The grilled apple salad with made in house dressing, superb. Sandwiches great! Homemade ketchup, you love it or hate it- love was in the air of our table. A bit of a wait on a Saturday night, but well worth it. If you can get a seat at the bar, take it. The bar tenders are great! Overall, REPEAT!

Fave casual 'date night' restaurant. 44 stone is occasionally brilliant, always dependable, and my favorite columbia restaurant these days. the food is surprisingly good across the board, and the specials are often truly delicious. this is "pub" with a few real twists. the bangers and mash is actually way tastier than the real thing across the pond, for example. & the sides are all top-notch. when i think of british bar food i've had in england, i recall a general blandness and much too much grease. 44 stone pulls simple, fresh, strong flavors out of its sleeve and always improves on the traditional pub fare as a result. and it's not *just* bar food. there's always a good seafood, a pork and steak special. if you like good beer, cider & whiskey, this place has a fantastic selection that is ever-changing and always well-chosen. excellent waitstaff too, which is refreshing. the only thing they lack that i miss is a great selection of wines, but i do understand that this is a beer/whiskey pub!

Good food and atmosphere. Very good food. I got the roasted chicken, and while the browned butter sage sauce wasn't very noticeable, overall the dish was very well seasoned. My only complaint was that when I lifted up the wing, I found about a tablespoon of peppercorns hiding there. Ended up biting down on a couple, which is never pleasant. My boyfriend got the curry, which was also very good (though not hot enough for his taste), but the undersides of the flatbread that came with it were completely black. He got a chocolate stout, and I got a cider - both were very good. For desert, we had the bread pudding, which was delicious. The atmosphere and service were exceptional. Would definitely go back in spite of the minor issues.
Comfort Food. If you are feeling low and needing some comfort...you know those days when you were a kid that a good bowl of home-made macaroni just did the trick? Then you need to order the Bangors and Mash at 44 Stone. This is the ultimate English "comfort food" and 44 Stone does it right with just the right amount of mushy peas and potatoes. I know it just doesn't sound appealing but it is scrumptious.
We've visited 44 Stone several times and have had great experiences each time except when visiting with a larger party where the service was extremely slow. The server was very friendly but just worked to the bone. It doesn't change my mind though, 44 Stone is a great short trip to an English pub.
Best food in Columbia. Everything is fresh and tastes amazing. They may say they have "British-style fare," but they also have much more than that including some Asian flavors. I had a soup that was one of the best soups I've ever had. I'm still attempting to have tried everything on the menu at least once, and I'm getting there! Prices aren't at all expensive.
Good food. I had the 44 Stone Burger, it was excellent! Also had a side salad with the stone sauce (kind of like thousand island), a little heavy on the dressing but at least the dressing was tasty!
My friend got the colecannon and I sampled it-crazy delicious! You'll get fat off of it, but you'll love it!
Three visits in two weeks = awsome every time! The appetizers called the "Three Little Pigs" and the "Rare Bit" are both superb. The entrèe "Roasted Chicken" consists of half a roasted chicken marinated exquisitely, also with a side of cooked zucchini. In ordering the French fries, however, you get a side of their famous house beer ketchup. And it's pretty good. Always pay attention to the chef specials! The best of the menu is the special. Doesn't matter so far what it is--fish,beef, lamb, whatever--eat it. They have a huge Irish whisky and English beer selection. You need to be at 44 Stone eating and drinking and enjoying life! I'll be back!
This is a place where handmade hamburgers and fish and chips are delicious. It is more interesting because I can taste about 50 beers. Whenever I come here, I want to taste a different beer.
This place is a decent English pub bar. We had the cheese fritters for an appetizer. I didn't love them nor did I hate them. My girlfriend ordered the Chicken & Leek Pasty and I had the 44 Stone Burger. They were both pretty good.
One of the best meals I've had in a while! The vibes are very chill, it's a gorgeous clean building with interesting architecture. We had the deviled eggs, whisky salmon, and shrimp of the day with polenta. Also the seabreaze cocktail and cucumber ginger martini. Everything is reasonably priced for the quality you get. I cannot recommend this place enough!
What a pleasant surprise, my wife and I had been looking for a good burger place in this town for a long while, and the only regret I made was getting the Seoul Disco Fries with the 44burger, because they were both massively delicious. Also dug the bread pudding, our waitress was very kind, the only complaint I really had was the seats we got, we would have preferred an actual table or booth, but the food was good enough to not make something as petty as that a knock off the grade. Hope to come back here again in the future.

Was passing through the neighborhood on the way to St. Louis from Kansas City when we wanted to try something local on the way home to experience something different, this place caught our eye online so we stopped in, and it lived up to the good reviews we saw!!
To start we had the Welsh rarebit, I have heard of the dish but never experienced it, and this restaurants version of it was phenomenal, definitely unhealthy but absolutely delicious. My companion and I both got the lamb burger, which was pretty good although not as phenomenal as the appetizer. I also really enjoyed my salad, some house salads can be pretty boring and mediocre but this one was very good, especially the house dressing. I also enjoyed their selection of cocktails and got the Negroni which is pictured and then a rosemary spritz, also delightful. We were so full that we were disappointed that we had to turn away the dessert menu, although we would probably want to try that next time! A great place to stop if you’re driving through Columbia, MO!
We got the veggie curry (with chicken), the Tikka masala soup, the children's chicken tenders with fries, the Seoul disco fries, and the fish and chips (with fries)...
Pros: the food was great... All of it. There wasn't anything that wasn't good tasting. The portions were good and worth the cost.
The service was great, she was attentive, welcoming, knowledgeable and nice.
The seating was great... I am sure we got a larger table than one would normally (we have a toddler so we requested the booth in the back).
Cons: Expensive.... If you aren't careful you can spend quite a lot. If it were busier the seating might not have been possible.
We enjoyed a nice pint, sandwich and the Ploughman's lunch. It's a great spot in Columbia that seemed to be slightly more upscale than the usual spots.
