We had a great time. Great waitress. The food is excellent. I do miss the Rynlander. Sad that it is gone. They need to bring back the shortribs

I was very sad when the Gustav's and Rhinelander in the Hollywood area was torn down recently. However I can still get my German food fix in the Clackamas Gustavs. The menu is the same as the one I. Hollywood. I have been coming to this local chain since I moved here in 92 and probably have eaten here more times than any other sit down restaurant. They have the best German food in town and great service. Easy parking lot parking.
The food was delicious, cooked to perfection, served hot, and the service great. My server this evening was Timothy. His service was excellent! Timothy was patient as I asked several questions. He was prompt and courteous in his service. Also of importance was that he was able to give me the perfect blend of attention and privacy which I greatly appreciated. Be assured I will return and highly recommend Gustav's to family and friends. Remember to ask for Timothy when you go. Thank you Timothy.
Excellent Wiener schnitzel and food in general. Excellent service and ambience. Overall very pleasant experience. Go there, you won't be disappointed.
Just Right. While visiting Portland, friends took us to Gustav's for lunch. What a neat place. The décor is just right. Not too kitschy, but warm and reminiscent of an old beer hall. The array of flüssige Brot (liquid bread) is great and I opted for Spaten Optimator. (The mugs are built to give you a full half liter with a nice Krone on top too. Wow. Just perfect, and the prices aren't bad at all.
I really enjoyed one of my favorite dishes, stuffed cabbage rolls. The sauce was especially memorable. Our friends split an order of (I believe) chicken schnitzel. The chef gracefully served it up in two orders as if they had been separate. Friends loved it. My wife chose a reuben and while she enjoyed it, she felt it wasn't the best one she'd ever had.
But overall, the food and ambience are great and the beer selection is really good. But if you're an all-American, they have brews like Coors and Bud as well.

A gem across the parking lot from the motel 6.... I wish I could even put into words how happy my tummy and I are right now. Finding authentic German food this side of the Atlantic is hard, even having grown up in Missouri, which was heavily settled by Germans.
So, after a long day of apartment hunting, my hubby and I decided to trundle across the parking lot from our crappy motel 6 room (the only thing we could find) to Gustav's... close, easy and friends basically said, "GO!" We were not disappointed in any way.
We arrived around 5:20 and got a table right away, we were apparently a bit ahead of the usual dinner crowd, because there were people waiting for seating when we left around 6:45. Our waiter, Ted, was amazingly attentive and even told the manager that it was our first time at the establishment. The manager comped us a fondue appetizer as a welcome. We had the best service ever.
The fondue was a wonderful blend of swiss cheese, white wine and spices... and the bread pieces were dark rye and mischbrot... bringing back fond memories of the delicious breads we used to get from the bakery in the little town we used to live in, Mainz-Bischofsheim.
I ordered the Sauerbraten and it came with a side of purple cabbage sauerkraut and spaetzle (a small German drop noodle). I also got a side of warm German potato salad. Everything tasted authentic, as I remember from Germany. The Sauerbraten was perfectly tender and didn't need a knife, the flavor was a perfect lightly sour flavor with a gravy made from the drippings. The spaetzle was just like some that I had as a child in a tiny SE Missouri town at a friend's wedding and topped with the gravy, the little noodles were delectable. The sauerkraut was also just right, light on the sour flavor and delicious.
My husband had the Hungarian Jaegerschnitzel, which I tasted and reminded me of what we used to get on base at the German Kantine, which was staffed by Germans for the Germans who worked there. The gravy was just right, right down to the mushrooms.
We plan to return soon. The next test will be whether they serve Bratwurst or brats (the American adulteration of the perfect sausage.)
Impressed 5 STARS!. We don't eat out very often. When we do, a lot times, we walk away saying "I could have cooked that for 1/2 the price".
Not so at Gustav's! We were greeted, warmly, upon arriving. Our seat came up in a few minutes. We had made it for Happy Hour - a bonus! The server was warm, and attentive. He described the entrees, perfectly. We LOVED both entrees. They were piping hot, absolutely delicious and small enough that we didn't feel bloated, upon departure. I can honestly say that I couldnt' re-create either of those dinners - SCORE! The Happy Hour price more than made our night, as well. This place will knock your socks off and leave you wanting more. We will be back sooner, rather than later.
Got great service tonight when some of our party got here an hour early....with twin toddlers. The manager was very helpful and got us a table early. Thanks!
Just like home. OMG! This place is amazing! I am from a German family and we take pride in our food. It's obvious that Gustavs takes pride in what they do as well. The food was delicious and service was impeccable. The portions were right for the price and the beer selection was perfect for a beer connoisseur like myself. I can't wait to come back again and again. This has become a family favorite for sure!
No Disappointments Here!. I just ate here for the third time. The food is amazingly delicious and the portions are generous. Their happy hour menu is quite extensive and the prices are extraordinarily pleasing.
Don't miss the fondue. The beer sampler is a must!
The service is mostly quick and friendly but you're not made to feel like you have to eat and leave right away.

Was close by and stopped in for a quick mid-lunch meal. The fondue is a must have and the service 4.5 out of 5. Had a sandwhich with side salad with honey mustard on the side. All left my taste buds satisfied, but the honey mustard lacked much of either. Next time I will go with the blue cheese dressing!
Wow it's been years since I ate at Gustav's after today's meal I'm wondering why. There were three of us in our lunch party today and everyone commented on the quality of the food. We were greeted with a warm smile and promptly seated. Our server definitely had his A game today and helped make for a wonderful experience. I will be returning sooner rather than later.
A fine establishment, with great Happy Hour prices for delicious food and drinks. Amber was professional and attentive to all the patrons needs, and did so with a welcoming smile and friendly demeanor. I definitely recommend stopping by anytime you're in the area. Kristin was fabulously attentive and friendly. Like I said before, I highly recommend this establishment for a great meal and friendly service.
Superb food. I had the meatballs and they tasted as if they were made in grandma's kitchen in her cast iron pan! The beer was super fresh, the waitress was very polite and happy to recommend.

Amazing service on a busy Sunday night and the food was all outstanding! I got the Hungarian chicken schnitzel with spatzle and was not disappointed. Also got the apple strudel which was lovely. There was a little wait for a table but it wasn't bad and we were taken good care of by our waitress. Would definitely come back again!
Great service by our server Carter. We actually had a shorter wait than expected. Authentic, flavorful, and filling dishes! Always a great time at Gustav's. We shared the signature fondue and I had the Rheinland Feste for the main course. My fiance had the french dip sandwich, not pictured, but it was fantastic.
We had happy hour at the bar on Sunday afternoon. It was quick, delicious, and a great deal! I got the cabbage rolls. The two rolls were warm and delicious--great for a chilly, rainy day! My husband got the schnitzel club sandwich. It has a great balance of ingredients and different textures. Both options are on their happy hour menu (available in the evenings and all day on Sunday) at really reasonable prices. The bar is a great place to watch a game, if you're interested in that.
Strangely enough, I ordered Salmon (even though this is a German Restaurant). The grilled salmon had a lovely crust on the outside and had plenty of moisture inside. When paired with the bed of arugula and spaetzle, it was outstanding. I would go to Gustav's again just for this. The apple strudel (with ice cream) was also worth getting again. I am not a huge fan of apple desserts, though I do enjoy apples on their own, but this dessert was deceptively light despite being packed with apples and a thin pastry.
Gustav's Pub & Grill is always a "go to" spot when we are in the area. Great location, essy freeway access, excellent menu and service, full bar and many domestic and Bavarian Biers. They have a great Happy Hour and the atmosphere in the restaurant takes you to a Bavarian Village. You will not be disappointed with Gustav's Pub & Grill.
There was a slight wait as it was fairly busy early on a Tuesday. The atmosphere is good, as it kind of looks like you're in Germany. We had the chicken schnitzel, which they had as a Tuesday special buy one get half off another. The chicken was good, the speatzle could have been warmer, but otherwise it was good. They also have a good selection of German beers on tap with a few local options. Also, our server was very good.

Everything I've had here was tasty and the atmosphere is very nice. Today I had a lavender martini type of drink that was lovely and I tried the parmesan schnitzel. Our waiter was awesome. I've had the cheese fondue on a previous trip here and I would have ordered it again this time if I had room in my stomach.
