Food is good. The portion sizes are just right for a meal - that is to say smaller than most Indian places. The service was silly though: the servers cleared your plates about a second after you finished it, and they brought out the check before our party was done eating. Not cool. Reccomended for takeout, but don't bring a date that you actually want to spend time with and have a good conversation, because they'll rush you out quickly.
Put away your Tam Tams, gefilte fish, and matzo meal substitute cookies because Passover has ended. Really though it just didn't seem the same. Maybe what I'm missing is the Hillel pizza party where you really have to elbow your way past a few AEPhi girls
It's nice having a solid, not crazy expensive Indian spot to go to without having to travel all the way up to Devon. My only knock is that the bathroom was very dirty.
Love that you can bring your own phone without a corkage fee. The food was a lot spicier than most indian food.
Good Indian food. Menu has a little more individuality than most Indian restaurants, which is nice, but it still has the basics for the unadventurous. Service was a little slow (seemed as though they only had one server at 8:30 p.m. on a Saturday; someone may not have showed up, etc.), but nothing major.
Food is PHENOMENAL! I'd say that this is the best Indian food in Chicago, which I realize is a BOLD statement. I have been coming for years and keep on returning. Get the Chicken Tikka Marsala...amazing! With that said, allow for a little extra time and perhaps a bit of frustration with the service. Often tough to get attention and food comes out a bit slow. Go in knowing and exoecting that and you won't be disappointed with the food. Still worth every star. Enjoy!
I ordered chicken Korma and garlic naan for takeout. They weren't busy but the wait time was long even though I called ahead. There was a slightly artificial cinnamon flavor to the rice and Korma, kinda like Red Hots candy or Big Red gum, but it actually wasn't off-putting? Ordered medium spice which was pretty hot, but quite enjoyable. The chicken was extremely tender and quite flavorful, pushing my review up to the 4-star rating. Naan was a great texture, too; chewy but not too thick and with an even thickness and toastiness throughout. Would definitely repeat.
I love them so much. The place is a bit small, but cozy. If you are taking a big group, I would call beforehand. The food is simply delicious and they are very attentive to what level of spice you can take. I am not a spice food person at all and they just nailed with my food!

Involving more than one of her immediate family, Hema has delighted her neighbours with delectable Indian specialties for more than a generation. The delightfully expansive menu of Indian specialties is served by staff friendly, fast, and efficient. Some locals can be spotted here once a week at least, proving how reliably delicious and enchantingly varied food here is. This truly IS Hema's kitchen, and guests are family.
The best Indian food in the Midwest. We can't drive by Chicago without a Hema's stop. The setting is modest but the taste and portions are anything but. You can bring your own liquor, beer, and wine.
This is my favorite restaurant in Chicago! I have traveled throughout India and the food at Hema's Kitchen is just as good! My favorites are the Dal Palak, Aloo Gobi, and Chana Masala. I have brought family here from across the US and they have always loved it. The service is great; the servers let you linger over your food and (BYOB) wine; they are attentive but don't rush you. You will not be disappointed!
Go to Indian restaurant with very good food! My wife particularly liked the Chicken Tiki Masala. Large menu and they'll spice it to your taste, i.e. Normal to eye watering. BYOB makes it even better as you don't pay an arm and a leg for dinner. Courteous wait staff. Unpretentious but comfortable. Unlike other restaurants it's quiet so you can talk normally at the table.
Amazing Indian restaurant. You cant go wrong with any of the dishes. Everything is always mouth watering.
I've been coming to this restaurant for 4 years now, and that's because it's still one of the best places to get great Indian cusine
One of my go-to Indian places. Such good food, kind staff, and BYOB (no corkage fee). They’re also really great about accommodating larger parties if you call head. Love these guys!
