Reviews Steingold's Of Chicago

The care and quality that went into the food I've tried from Steingold's is second to none! Great bagels (hearty, chewy, a nice crust but still easy to chew!) and the meats and fish are outstanding. The Sister-in-Law sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had...easily in my top ten. Strong, individual flavors that don't over power each other, but pack a deliciously intense flavor with each bite! And where else can one get their Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray soda fix??? Bravo to Steingold's for doing it the right way!

I went to Steingold's for the first time today. Love the space! It's sleek yet welcoming. I just wanted to spend the entire day there! I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese bagel sandwich and had there coffee. It was amazing! So good that I made myself only ate half of the sandwich so I could keep savoring it throughout my day. I'm not even a big coffee drinker and I found myself moaning over each sip of their coffee! Will definitely be back! Thanks for starting off my day right!

I had a bagel with lox for breakfast this morning. It was spot on! The whitefish salad and potato salad were great too! Service was superb and the ambiance was very inviting. I will definitely go back! Thank you Steingold's! Great to have you in the neighborhood!

This is the best deli. We sadly moved out of the neighborhood today, but made sure that our last breakfast was from Steingolds!

The menu is simple yet efficient. The bagels are also very good, some of the best I've had! Many options to build your bagel sandwich, and the coffee is also good. They were playing amazing music when I was there, and would go again.

I stopped in for lunch before a show at the Mercury Theater. I had a great Reuben, Latke and whoopee pie. Food was very good and service was pretty fast. I'll stop in again if I'm in the area.

Definitely busy on the weekend but it's nice that you can order from the table. Top tier bagels. The asiago is delicious af with the cheese melted over the middle.

Steingold’s was recommended to us by @jackvelasquez as he continues to ride the hot hand with where he’s dispatched us. 🔥 Fresh? Authentic? Somehow those descriptions seem to fall flat when merely standing alone. When I reflect on the Steingold’s experience I’d have to sum it up with, “Premium ingredients coupled with craftsman preparation.” Although their location is outside of the downtown area, it is just an easy ride away when using the “L.” While I was busy internally debating if my favorite was the bagel, schmear, or lox (I eventually gave up because they were all equally excellent), I heard another Review Team Member utter, “This is the best chicken salad I’ve EVER had because it paired perfectly with the soft challah bread.” On a related note, the surrounding neighborhood is outstanding for either window shopping or a leisurely stroll amongst one beautiful residence after another. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #chicagobagels #chicagojewishdeli

LOVE this Southport gem! I got the Steingold’s Classic Lox sandwich with nova lox, a side of celery seed slaw, and a pickle. All of it was delicious! The restaurant is small on the inside but has a decent amount of outside seating. Some of the sandwiches are a little expensive ($14 for the classic sandwich), but still worth it. I would highly recommend giving Steingold’s a try!

I had the Nephew with potato salad and a Dr Browns root beer. It was delicious and worth it compared to some of the other places I’ve been to recently. Everything was freshly made. I could eat the challah on its own!

This was a nice touch on breakfast sandwiches. Get there early because it becomes packed on the weekends. I recommend eating their nova lox sandwich, with a pickled cucumber sauce, nova lox, tomatoes, and you get to pick a bagel flavor along with a side. I wish the size portions were a bit bigger, for the price that you are paying. Maybe eventually the portion size will increase. But just a food for thought. The customer service you get here is very friendly and very welcoming as well. There is also a small food market of some sort and it can be a spot to pick up a quick snack/meal or bring some extra food home to indulge in as well.

Updated review: the food is still great, but showing up at 10:30 they’re often times out of food. 45 minute wait for an egg bagel, or out of matzo ball soup :( Original review: I had the pastrami, egg & cheese on a bagel, plus matzo ball soup. Amazing food. Gonna make it up there again soon.

I got their turkey sandwich on gluten-free bread and it was so good! The turkey is so juicy and well seasoned. I loved the sour pickle and simple coleslaw. They have gluten-free bread and sides - just no gluten-free bagels. I’ll take what I can get! I def plan to come back with my gluten eating boyfriend so he can try the bagels and I can live vicariously through him ☺️

I've been in to Steingold's twice now. This is the best bagel I've had in Chicago, and the best pastrami I've ever had. Bagel wise, I could tell when I walked in they know how it's done, because they have their current bagel selection on display, and the poppy seed bagel was almost entirely black. I live for a great everything bagel, and it's so disappointing to get one with not enough seasoning. This one delivered. The Reuben is unreal. The owner told us they smoke their pastrami for 12-14 hours and then cut it thick like Texas barbecue. The smoking gives the pastrami a little bark (which I call meat candy) and also makes it incredibly soft and juicy. This is a sandwich to remember. When I had a bagel, I ordered the Classic Lox Sandwich, on an everything bagel, with pastrami-spiced lox and chive cream cheese. I really wanted my breath to smell great for my dog when I got home. I've never seen pastrami-spiced lox before but it makes so much sense now that I've had it. If you're not a huge salmon fan this would be a great gateway salmon for you, because the pastrami spice cancels out all of the fishiness. I don't have much more to say other than this sandwich was amazing. The lightly pickled cucumbers were a really nice touch. The bagel had a great texture (you know as soon as you pick it up) and was covered in everything seasoning. There were a lot of strong flavors involved, but everything worked. I will dream about this. My wife had a garlic bagel with chive cream cheese, which was also excellent. It had plenty of seasoning just like the others. Overall, I was happy, my wife was happy, and my dog was happy, so I guess the next logical move for us is to find an apartment nearby so we can be walking distance regulars here.

good flavors. fresh ingredients. good selection to choose from on menu. appeared to be very clean, including the bathrooms. $15 for the lox breakfast sandwich it was good. comparable to gothem bagels but better prices. better than bagels than kauffmans in my opinion. will be coming back! would have been 5 stars if more capers on sandwich, i’ll ask for them next time. very pleased with my visit. short wait time (about 10 min)

Loved it. On my breakfast bagel Sammie quest — this one is at the top for me! The sesame bagel, perfect - bacon + egg + cheese, great amount - fresh/quality ingredients and that jalapeño cream cheese is BOMB!

IMHO probably the best bagel breakfast sandwich in all of Chicago. The everything bagel is freshly made, with a nice snap and softness. The ingredients are tasty and dont firget the coffee. Friendly staff with walk-up service.

So glad this opened and will keep coming here. Everything is great and I expect only will get better. The pastrami is a little chewier than I expected but still delicious with a great smoky flavor and 2nd best in the city (3 Greens). The corned beef is a little fatty as well but also yummy. Gourmet lox platters, latkes, and a few changing special sweets. Plus...hey...they mayor eats here too so how bad could it be. UPDATED: a few years in and it’s still not where it should be. See photo for what was received when “lean corn beef” was ordered. Pastrami has gotten better but the meats are all very greasy, the soups are more oil than broth, and the service is sometimes good sometimes ok. Hope they look to improve it’s a good addition to the neighborhood.

Tasty, but pretty overpriced! Pictured here is the Cousin Suzy - $13. There’s no meat in this sandwich… The mushrooms were well seasoned and cooked. Tasty cheese, sauerkraut and sauce completed the toasted to perfection sandwich. I’ve also had their bagels before, which were great. Breakfast sandwiches are of great quality too!
