This place is a must go-to! I'd say the best gimlets and margaritas in Chicago....if not, I'd love to know where! All other cocktails compete with the best of them. Great atmosphere and mix of people. Disco ball and turntable playing all the time. It is tiny, and hard to find a seat, but worth standing. Enjoy!
There were no stuffed olives for my martini. I have to guess that was played out years ago and nobody sent me the 📝... still the tiniest best place for a gin martini 🍸 or sidecar and now conveniently close to mHUB

My one and only bar that I was truly a regular at when I live in Chicago! I called it my "Cheers" and the best Cosmo you will ever have in your life. Check out the adjoining restaurant/bar The Silver Palm next door for delicious gourmet food, deff not typical bat food. Btw it's the size of a matchbox, forces you to meet new people and cozy up!
Damn good Dive Bar!!! I was skeptical at 1st because it looked and is cramed, but the lemon drop with a gorgeous girl made is ever so dope!

We visited Portillos for the 1st time and would definitely recommend it!! Service was slow but it was worth the wait! Real Chicago dogs and the shakes were delicious too!
The Matchbox is one Of the loveliest dive bars I have ever been into. At the top of my list, they have an amazing selection of whiskeys and Bourbons and rise. And the service is not only good, it could be described as kind and friendly, even to a tourist.
Music definitely is on the side of underground rock ‘n’ roll. No top 40 in this joint.
If there is one problem with this bar, it’s that the very name of it, describes the architecture of the bar. It’s literally a tiny matchbox! It’s a party with 40 people. But almost too full with 4. Nevertheless, I hope to be back.
Great cocktail bar with a dive atmosphere.
The only seating in the building is at the bar (the width of the room may be less than Michael Jordan's arm span) and this may be Chicago's smallest and one of the most intimate bars as 2 bartenders serve up delicious craft cocktails for at most 25 patrons.
The drinks are great as is the service. There's a menu, but I enjoyed turned my fate over to the bartenders and let them make recommendations or pour what they pleased - every drink was different and delicious. Their Manhattan made me feel like there is something wrong with all the Manhattans I've had leading up to my visit at The Matchbox.
Highly recommend checking this place out either for a unique cocktail to start or end the night, or just making an entire night out of it.

Favorite hole in the wall! They've made a ton of patio upgrades since COVID, almost tripling their capacity. They always decorate seasonally, too. The original bar is fun and eclectic but obviously fills up very quickly. It's nice to still have an affordable bar in the area where you can spend some time and not break the bank.
Super cool, cozy bar. Other than the margarita, which was terrible, the drinks were strong and delicious. The bartenders were friendly and attentive.

It literally is the size of a Matchbox but the atmosphere is great. Bartenders were friendly.
The Gin and Jam was my favorite. The pineapple gimlet and cosmopolitan both used powdered sugar around the rim. A bit pricey but worth it for the intimacy and service. The bouncer (or the person who checked our IDs at the door) was very professional. Colby our server was super sweet and informative. The bathroom was tiny but very clean and functional. This would be a great place for after dinner or after work drinks for a group of 5 or under. The outdoor space has cozy seating with heaters!
Love this little bar! Such a cool place. Bartenders are always great. Good selection of beers and whiskey.
The vibes here were great. I loved the outside seating even under their remodeling & COVID-19. The host we had was great. He kept a great conversation & was friendly and helpful with suggestions on which drinks they are known for. I will definitely be back.

Amazing location. 1 bar has four atmospheres, inside the bar, outside with high tops, the Adirondack chairs and garden feel then the fairy tale feeling under the lights. Great place for a first date or to bring your dog for a drink. Brooke is an amazing bartender, highly recommend the espresso martini. Great place to escape life and relax. I will be back!
