I discovered this place at an FOODA stop and I made it a point to make it at their restaurant. It was a whole lot better than the FOODA booth. It had a whole menu oppose to the 10 items at the booth and the servings was a lot more food than I would have got at the booth. I recommend the jerk chicken and rice, if spicy is an issue for you, you can get baked chicken instead. Or ask for half and half, 'Best of Both worlds'. I never image having leftovers, this place did.
They have absolutely amazing food!! I wasn't sure if I'd still be able to eat here being gluten free now, but I'm so happy that I can! I highly recommend the panades. They have always been so welcoming and friendly. The owner chatted with us while we waited for our food and gave my husband a Belizean long Island to try and he really liked it. I wish this place was closer to us we'd go a lot more often!!
The Garifuna in Belize are the descendants of African slaves and the native Caribs that once populated the Caribbean islands. Fortunately for us, someone brought both their cuisine and cooking skills to 63rd Street!
After working up an appetite at the DuSable Museum's Craft Festival, we headed here. A Belizean Ice Tea for Susan, a Red Stripe for me, and we were off to the races. We started with an appetizer combination--delicious conch fritters--followed by jerk chicken with rice and beans and conch soup. The soup was truly wonderful: a combination of potatoes, peas, cassava, onions, peppers, conch of course, and spiced to perfection.
Prices are reasonable, portions are hearty, the service is personable, and the place is clean as a whistle. We'll return with friends!
This place is one of the best kept secrets on the South Side! They should think about investing in a food truck that travels around and gets the world out!
First time visiting was last night - The food and customer service was great - The Belizean rum punch was the icing on the cake - It u want great food and drinks in a casual no frill atmosphere this is the place
Food was great, drinks!.. Created by Garifuna Flava were amazing.. Belizean ice tea and Hopkins passion!!!!.. is a must try!!
Went to Garifuna Flava yesterday. The food is absolutely delicious. I was worried Sheldon would be super picky. He wasn't too picky. He enjoyed the panades with guava carrot juice. I had ths Belizean chicken stew with steamed cabbage, his dad had the pot roast, we had the jerk chicken as well. Damn good food yall. Make sure you get the gravy for the rice. Great atmosphere and service. We'll definitely be back!!!
Service and food was excellent! A taste of Belize, was like a party in my mouth...lol. For appetizer Panadas main dish Jerk Chicken with potato salad and stew beans.

I loved the different varieties of island food. Very tasty and large portions. The caramel pound cake is the best!!
The food was amazing!! The best Belizian food I had in a awhile.I will patronize again !
Gurifuna is FYE business!!!! I love mw sum delcious jerk food. But the Caribbean deliciousness is another level.
First of all, their planteen are out of this world. Mixed with the heat of their sauce and rice is EVERYTHING!!!
OMG #ImTooPregnant to be talking about fye food.
Ill be visiting them again soon. And prolly with my girl Toni. We love them and their dranks! Nom nom nom
The food and the service was great. I recommend this place
The restaurant was a Fooda experience and I tried their jerk chicken combo with the rice and one plantain at AMA Plaza downtown Chicago. The food was so delicious and the servers were nice and offered recommendations since it was my first time eating. I found out the restaurant is near my home on Western and I plan on visiting real soon. Great place!
One of those meals I feel like I should have paid more for the given quality and amount. My friend and I split a half Jerk chicken over rice & beans, potato salad and plantains. Jerk chicken was impressively moist, appropriately salty and well seasoned; the runny jerk sauce on the side provided some extra kick; the skin charred black from the grill. Rice & peas were soft and equally flavorful. Conch fritters' mix was tasty and fried well without dripping in grease although a few had possibly overcooked, rubbery conch bits. Otherwise it was a good batter.
My friend from Chicago has been coming for years and you can tell from the decor and space. They have some beautiful black & white photographs worthy of a gallery show. No vibe is the vibe—a good sign. This place is a gem.
Best grill chicken in town, a special recipe from Belize “Jerk Chicken” has an amazing blend of spices. The sides compliment the chicken. Even though the restaurant is not fancy but the quality of food and taste makes you forget where you are.
They have a take out option and you can easily warm it up for the same taste as its served fresh at the restaurant
I ordered from Uber Eats, I asked for it to be beautiful and they over exceeded my expectations. My first time trying this restaurant, it was so flavorful, hot and fresh! It hit my taste buds and is my new favorite!
Love love love the plantain! Perfectly cooked and sweet. I made a believer out of a local with their Jerk wings and Tacos! I'm from Wisconsin and hadn't been there in years and it's still good! I was sort of bummed that they were out of pig tails but I was still a happy camper with the food that I had.
Courtesy of Darius cook I had to pull up. I ordered the 6wings with 1 side of cabbage and, a side of fish puffs with a side of spicy sauce every thing was hot, fresh and delicious. My first time here but it will not be my last...
Delicious food, generous portions, and friendly service. We've been going here for years, and the order is always exactly like we want. The Carribean jerk chicken is one of the many highlights off their menu.
I called my food in, and she told me, "Gimme 20 minutes hun" Hung up the phone. I ordered the jerk wing and breast with macaroni and yams. I walk in, and it's a One Woman show!! I tell you it's a man sitting down eating his food peacefully, my food is waiting on me nice and hot and she greats me with a nice "Hello" all and all very quick interaction and I paid $21 for meal which is not bad at all. When I say THE BEST food I've had in a while, this has to be someone's mother or grandmother working magic in the kitchen, and her secrets must be passed down! Marconi?? Fire, really cheesy, and she gave me a lot. And the yams?? To die for, anyone who loves soul food knows about the combination. I normally don't even really like jerk sauce, but they got something different going on! Chicken is super juicy and tender, and the sauce was delicious, I wish I had got another container. 20/10 would definitely come back agian when I'm in the area. Won't be disappointed. This was my first time there as well.
I have been coming here since they first open
I really really appreciate the great food & the authentic Taste in it! Thanks 💕 it’s very good and flavorful 🙌🏽 Even though the Portions has gotten small because of Covid :(
it’s family own . God bless & Support This Business 🇧🇿
I took the risk of ordering from Garifuna Flava for the first time through Uber Eats 🤭 The food arrived within the hour surprisingly. I got the Jerk Chicken w/ 3 sides; rice & beans, mac & cheese, and fried ripe plantains. I also got an order of their Belizean potato salad. Definitely satisfied 🔥

My first taste of Garifuna was when they had catered our lunch. I had the Jerk chicken, stewed chicken, beans and rice and Caribbean steamed cabbage! It was all very flavorful and melt in your mouth! Hold up! I didn't even get to the real star of the show which was the caramel cake! Omg! I didn't want a slice, give me the whole freakin cake! If you have a sweet tooth, make sure to save some room for dessert!
First time going here, And first time ever tasting this type of food and I have to say it is cooked fresh, hot to order and it is absolutely amazing. Customer service was awesome friendly polite and just great. I would definitely recommend this place is you like new change from eating the norm fried chicken, Gyro, Italian Beef kinda food.
The owners are very nice people
We had long conversation about what part of Belize they lived in and how they got here
The wife and husband are both great people and the food was awesome
I’ll definitely be back
Delicious Belizean meals and dishes, portions are always perfect and fill you up. The restaurant has a lot of information about Belize and it's food culture. Jerk chicken, stewed chicken, plantains, rice, and Mac are the go-to choices for me
Jerk chicken is the way to go. Perfectly seasoned and juicy. Arguably has some of the best plantains I've ever had in my life. I wish I had gotten the conch fritters instead of the garnaches. The sauce served with everything is delicious! Also don't pass the opportunity to get the long island...
Food was heavenly. We ordered the jerk chicken family pack with rice and beans, Mac and cheese, and fried plantains; Belizean chicken stew, panades, and king fish with cabbage.
While we waited for our order some weird guy came in complaining about nonsense. The staff handled it professionally and much better than I would've. Afterwards, the staff approached us to apologize. There really was no need as they were not in the wrong. We were given a slice of caramel cake for our inconvenience. Again, not needed, but good God, the caramel was silky and warm, and the sponge was fluffy and moist. Would honestly go back for the cake alone.
Flavorful chicken, portions were generous, plantains were sweet not oily, Mac and cheese was better than most. Everything was super tasty. Highly recommend. 🙏
Very Very good! They were at Fooda in River North. Very nice staff. I may actually go to their restaurant. Lots of flavor, and spices are wonderful! Got the chicken stew and rice/beans covered in sauce. Very reasonable price too.
The Jerk Chicken dinner was superb. All of the items on my plate were very flavorful. My brother and sister-in-law treated me for my birthday and had me choose a restaurant. I wasn't familiar with Garifuna Flava but selected them based on the positive reviews.
I selected the Split Peas and Rice, Potato Salad, and Plantain to accompany my Jerk Chicken. For my taste buds, all items were seasoned to perfection. I completed my meal with a bottle of ginger beer and a slice of Caramel Pound Cake.
To complete our experience, we met the owners, Rhodee and Yolanda, where they shared with us the history of the Garifuna people.
Bottom line, highly recommended based on the items I selected.
One suggestion, call in advance if bringing a party greater than four.
THE BEST ON THE SOUTHSIDE
I'm a chef and a foodie when I tell you the sides will have you thinking that's all you need after one bite. The chicken is always moist and can be eaten alone. I always get the gravy that's full of flavor. Eating here since 2014
🥰🥰
Awesome food, passionate and friendly staff. Fun authentic flavors. Wish there was a location near me on the north side. I'll definitely eat here again if I'm in the neighborhood, worth a second visit.
