Review Kurah Mediterranean - Chicago

Kenneth Villanueva
Went for Brunch on a Saturday (Brunch is only on Weekends). Brunch was fantastic. There wasn't too many people on a Saturday at approximately 11:30 AM. The atmosphere is nice, the host and waiters check up occasionally as well. The initial impression when walking in is that there is fantastic decor and it gives a unique feel because of the adjacent upper floor. At first I thought it might be cramped, but there is plenty of room around the area. The Brunch menu was interesting, it wasn't too overwhelming either. Plenty of choices but not enough to leave you confused. My girlfriend and I chose the Egg Benedict with Smoked Salmon and Steak Omelet respectively. Both of our dishes came prepared with Rosemary Potatoes. Plenty of food for two people. What I liked about my Steak Omelet dish is that the steak had a rich Mediterranean flavor that I really wasn't expecting. The Smoked Salmon paired with the egg really melts in your mouth too. I would definitely recommend both dishes to first time brunch-goers. It was overall an excellent experience and I give my compliments to the waiters, host, staff, and of course, the chefs.

The food here was just delicious. Especially their meat. Their lemonade was so authentic and tasteful too. And their service was exceptional too. We sat upstairs and the young lady didn't mind going up and down the stairs at all. An easy 5 star.

I had a wonderful experience. We went there on a Saturday to celebrate our friend's birthday. Soon after we got seated, our server came over, introduced herself and asked us if we wanted to order now or start with our drinks first. Right after she got us our drinks, somebody else came over and took our order. We had: chicken wrap, chicken shawarma, shakshuka, arabic flat bread and lamb burger. Moments later all the order except mine which was the lam burger arrived. But my lamb burger also arrived few minutes later. With the exception of the shakshuka, the portions of the others are huge. As for my lamb burger, it was worth the wait. It is by far the best lamb burger I have had in my entire life and highly recommend it. It is very juicy and tasty and makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I can't wait till I go back and have it again. Anyone who likes lamb or wants to try lamb burger, then this is the place to go. Guaranteed you will be satisfied.

The meat plate was SO GOOD! Recommend it over the sandwich definitely. We all wanted to eat that one. Rice has so much flavor and I definitely recommend the Jerusalem salad and lamb with extra garlic sauce!!! Pita was a little dry but the flavor everywhere else made up for it. Free delivery which was amazing. Perfect take out option- can’t speak to the inside but would love to Come check it out.

Went here with my family for a quick early meal. We enjoyed a massage down the street and walked over for a birthday dinner. Nora our waitress was wonderful. Ordered many dishes, including tabouleh, lentil soup, mixed seafood, shawarma, fatoush salad, the Kurrah sampler. The babaghanoush was my favorite of the three. We also enjoyed the bread pudding and cookie skillet.

We didn't have a reservation on a Sat night, but they were still able to accommodate us right away. Everything we ordered were very good, especially the seafood cerviche, babaganosh, and biryani. They were very accommodating on taking certain ingredients out or serve on the side, and were able to turn vegetarian dish to vegan. Really enjoyed the atmosphere, decor, and the music. It was a nice experience on top of the good food. Since it was getting late, I didn't get to try their coffee or coffee cocktail. I would have to go back during that day for dessert and coffee only. Update: went for brunch 2 weeks later. Kid got chocolate chip pancake. There's quite a few kids friendly items in the menu. The butter that came with the pancakes was so good! I was stealing pancakes just to eat the butter!! Smoked salmon Benedict was done perfectly, couldn't ask for anything better. The skillet cookie wasn't so good though. I think you would like it if you like to eat warm cookie dough. I'm not sure was it supposed to be like that or was ours undercooked?! The cooked and crunchy edges of the cookie was really good though, just not a fan of cookie dough. Cinnamon rolls were very good. I think rarely there are good vegan pastries out there. This is so good you won't even know the difference. Oh yeah don't forget their outdoor seatings!!! It's on a side street with big side walk, so it's not even dusty or right next to the cars.

Should really be 3 stars, but the attentiveness of the manager raised it to 4. Another Chicago Passport book recommendation. The place is small but beautiful, really liked the decor and the second floor balcony area. The corner location gives a nice view of Michigan ave. We ordered some drinks and appetizers. My first choice of drink, which had jalapeño in it they didn’t have. Bad sign there, ordered an old fashion and a blood orange Manhattan. Both drinks were weak, the garnish on the old fashion was what looked like an eaten orange slice, my Manhattan used regular oranges. Both drinks didn’t taste good, almost no liquor. The appetizer was the Lebanese dish, the bacon wrapped dates were excellent, though they were quickly overshadowed by the dry hard falafel. Our dishes came out, and although they tasted good the outer edges of the dish was cold. The center was hot and even steam was coming off it, but the food on the edge of the dish was starting to cool off. I notified the manager, I asked if the food was pre-prepared and then microwaved, said no all is made from scratch. The only thing I could think was that our food was ready and sat on the counter until our waiter brought it out. I asked if they had warming lights to keep dishes warm, he said no. Now the actual food had a good taste and seasoned well, it was just cold. They did make it up to us, by giving us an extra side of sautéed veggies and a baclava on the house, which again was delicious. But I don’t think we are going back, nor do I recommend the place.

Given all the brunch options in South Loop, this was not originally on my short list or even long list of places to try out. However, I ended up with a coupon good for brunch so decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did! Their ambience is fantastic, wait staff was attentive, unlimited mimosas and bloody Mary's let you switch between them (and are delicious), and the food was GREAT! The omelette was the fold over style with firm yet creamy eggs. Ended up getting the steak variety and it was great. Rosemary potatoes tasted fresh and even their ketchup was high quality. If there's a negative, I have to say I did not like the coffee as it felt watered down.

Attentive service and good fresh food. A lot of the flavors were garlic heavy, which I like :) My only complaint is that they cancelled my reservation on OpenTable even though we had obviously honored our reservation.

Unbelievable food! My friend got the combination platter with chicken and lamb and I got the chicken and beef ribeye. The meats were perfect and the rice was so light and fluffy. My veggies were probably the best I’ve ever had. We also shared a sampler platter for an appetizer and it was terrific as well. Sorry for the picture with a few bites missing but it looked so good I dove right in! Can’t wait to come back next time in Chicago.

I love this place! The food is always delicious and the service is great. A great spot for a quick evening snack and a glass of wine, a delicious dinner for two or a full family-style smorgasbord with family and friends. Take out is always excellent too. Support local. This is a great one!

Easily some of the best food I've happened upon. Great service, wide menu and relatively low pricing for high quality meals.

Good Experience The food was good, especially the garlic smash. We had to request items which wasn’t favorable to the waiter or appreciated by us. Little Overall-I will visit again

What a find, relaxing and excellent food in a bustling neighborhood. The baba ganoush alone is worth a trip. An intimate dining experience with attentive staff and wonderful food. My husband could stop raving about the beef skewers.

The service, ambiance, music and food was fabulous!! Tried as many appetizers as two people could eat. Red lentil soup, hummus, bacon wrapped dates, fried calamari, warm pita bread with olives, oil and some seasoning that was fantastic! Then actually ordered the lamb shwarma. All that topped off with a karaf of sangria and the afternoon was perfect. I'll do this again....soon!

I have eaten here several times, always take out, but the inside is very nice. Food is always good, have tried many items on the menu, my favorite hands down is garlic smash. You have too order pita on the side for any of the hummus, babba gannoush or other similiar dishes or pita chips, they don't come with.

Went on a Sunday for lunch. Service was slow and I found the food to be bland. Plus, fries on the shawarma?
Sidney Simmons
The food was impeccable. From the just garlicky seasoning to the rich olive used in preparation. Very attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. I had a party of nine and they never missed a beat. I shall be back!

The food was ok - had much better tapas before. Took a while to get to us and the restaurant was REALLY cold which made it hard to enjoy dinner. We were really excited for our reservation and underwhelmed about the experience.

Service was very spotty. Did not clean table or offer clean plates with each course. Waited and waited for a napkin and had to remind server. Not just at our table. Noticed other diners with the same issue. Saw a couple eating off the same plate with no side plates. Very disappointing service.

Great vibe and the food is amazing. Definitely a great date night spot.
