Review High Five Ramen - Chicago

I got in easily at 8 on a Saturday, probably because it's the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I had the tonkatsu 1/2 spiced, which was very flavorful. The noodles were easy to eat and have a little bite, which is exactly how I like them. The pork was also so tender and melted in my mouth. For 20 dollars, very very good and worth it. One of my favorite bowls of ramen I've had in a long time. Location is pretty cool and the servers were sweet + answered any questions I had. I did order extra spice which came as a little container with a spice mix. Next time I'll probably get the full spice ; but the half spice was very spicy I just like super spicy food. I'd check this spot out for sure.

Came here on Monday night and the wait was about 30 minutes. I've heard it can be a much longer wait on weekends, FYI. The ramen was SO delicious! Seriously some of the best ramen I've ever had. The Signature bowl was definitely the way to go the first time. On top of that, the service was excellent. Incredibly friendly staff behind the bar. They give great recommendations, including that you should not try to over do it on the spice if you've never been here before (seriously, take their advice). The staff also were just fun conversationalists. They really made the experience even better. Would come back here in a heartbeat.

Visiting this food spot is a journey in itself! From the moment you step up to the entrance, you're met with a staircase that leads down to an intriguing underground spot. The dim lighting adds to the restaurant's uniqueness, and once you're in, you'll feel the compression from the walls being so close to you. Every detail, from the lighting to the furniture, contributes to a very unique design style. Such a cool spot! +menu options are limited but you will find different meats, and I believe they have one vegetarian option +we tried their 1/2 spiciness level and to me this wasn’t spicy at all. +flavors were amazing and I would deff be coming here again +moshis are delicious particularly the strawberry one +coconut and raspberry cocktail’s are delicious -waiting time is long due to how small the place is

Great ramen, usually has a wait. Got the signature bowl which was great, I would definitely recommend at 1/4 spice level otherwise it’s too overpowering.

Very small ramen shop with a simple menu and darker ambiance. They have a few different spice levels to choose from. Try to get here early! The waits get long due to the small size. Do NOT mess around with the spice here. I eat a lot of spicy food so I have a good tolerance, so the 1/2 spice was doable but almost uncomfortable levels. I would absolutely recommend getting 1/4 spice or no spice. The ramen itself was solid, though it had too much sesame. The marinated egg was perfectly soft-boiled and tasted really good with the broth. The noodles were thin and firm. They also have a hot towel to wipe your hands with at the end of the meal, very nice!

The place is a little bit hidden in the basement and it's also really small. It seats maybe 15 people total. The Signature Tonkatsu ramen was a little bit salty but I think overall it was pretty good. The egg was nice and runny. Alot of bean sprouts but not enough onions.

Went on a Monday holiday evening at 530pm, only a 30 minute wait. Business definitely seemed slower compared to the past but also the summer, so maybe a hot bowl of ramen wasn't on people's minds. Got signature bowl, half-spice was definitely plenty of heat, loved the smoky flavor of the broth and the peppercorn! Broth is thick and the spicy cuts the salt which is nice. Noodles with some bite. Not worth 3 hour wait but ranked high for me because of the uniqueness of the broth.

I got the Signature Bowl with 1/2 spice and Maitake Mushrooms. Washrooms are upstairs. 1/2 spice is pretty spicy. Full spice is very spicy. I’ve never seen anyone get the Katambo Spicy thing.

It was good, but pricey. I got the signature Tonkotsu. The broth is quite heavy and salty compared to other places. I tend to prefer cleaner broths and usually gulp down every last drop, but I couldn’t do it here. Pork was great, egg was perfect. Nice to try! I might take friends here to experience the ambience cause it is pretty cool (though not very accessible), but wouldn’t be my first choice. Also we passed it twice😂 It’s in the same alley as Trivoli Tavern!

Super dark. Kinda cool ambience. Pretty small. Maybe enough stools for 16 people. The tonkatsu broth is really flavorful. Very good. No spice was good, didn't distract from broth. I got the second ramen with full spice, and it was way too much spice. You could feel the texture of the spice, it's pretty big. They should add hooks for your jacket/purse/bag.

Amazing Ramen 🍜 All around, this spot is on point. I had the Tonkotsu bowl and it was crafted to perfection: the broth was dense and rich, the noodles had great texture, and the pork melted in your mouth. Definitely plan ahead and get your reservation here. It’s worth the wait!

Lived in Japan for 2 years and this ramen really does compare nicely. Price point is higher than Japan but that is to be expected. Great food, music, and staff. Really a great place to eat and chill with friends. Only 16 seats and no reservations so come early. 10/10

Excellent spot for ramen! Like all the reviews say, it’s a very small space of only about 15 seats. I got there about 20 minutes before it opened and joined a line of a few people. When they opened we were sat right away, and within 4 minutes of opening, there were no open seats left! The staff was very helpful with the amount of spice to order. We each ordered one of the frozen drinks, which were very good. The ramen was very good and flavorful, the spice was just right for what we were looking for, although I did add some of the chili crunch they had. I will definitely return again!

If you haven’t been here, go! Expect a bit of a line sometimes; only seats 16 people. The music is awesome always. Flavors are banging. I get 1/4 spice or 1/2 spice. Very yummy cocktails too. Hostess Lisa, all the staff, & the chefs are always so cool & so kind. Keep it up! Love seeing Jake the manager here. He’s awesome too. Thanks for being the best ramen in town, my guys.

I found a Ramen noodle place that reminds me of the noodles I had in Tokyo.. so good! The miso broth and sliced pork makes the difference. You have to know where it is to find it… even with the address you could miss it. See the hand on the door? It’s behind there, seats only 16, has a line before the 4pm opening, and is worth the wait.

One of the best out of the way spots for very good ramen. Four choice and three levels of spice. Simple and straight to the point. Super Good!!!

The best ramen in the city! Get here early, put your name on the list and they will text you. By 5pm the wait is typically over an hour. By 6pm it’s a 2 hour wait. The music is always unique house music with thumping bass that fits the dark basement bar ambiance perfectly. Their 22oz $11 Japanese beer is a great complement to the spicy ramen. The menu is simple and DELICIOUS!
