I had a fantastic experience at South Branch Tavern! It is a popular spot for lunch with a beautiful view. The staff, especially Xavier, were exceptional and very kind. Xavier recommended the Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos with crispy sweet potato fries as a side, and they were absolutely delicious and super fresh. My husband tried the chicken tacos with French fries, and he loved them too. We highly recommend this great place!
Super vibrant spot with great food and drinks. My friend and I went on a weeknight for a happy hour and had a great time. The place was very busy but in spite of that, the service was so attentive! We ordered apps and drinks - everything was great. LOVED my cheese curds. They just melted in my mouth! Excellent restaurant overall!

A surprisingly excellent venue for an intimate wedding ceremony and reception. There's an outdoor patio/courtyard nestled among skyscrapers for your vows, an outdoor bar along the river for cocktail hour and the dining room ambiance is as exceptional as the food. Perched along a river walk with easy access to iconic bridges, Wacker Drive and the Lyric Opera House promenade, South Branch affords limitless iconic backdrops for your epic downtown Chicago wedding. I hope to be back.
Amberly was incredibly helpful, courteous and kind. Our meal would not have been as fantastic without her recommendations. The food was so great, we didn’t even have time to take a picture before we ate! Definitely coming back and asking for her as our server again!
We stopped by here for lunch on our way to visit Willis tower and were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the shirt steak with the dried tomatoes and it was so delicious that I felt all the stress in my head and neck muscles relax and I drifted into a relaxed meat nirvana state.
We had a great experience here. Casual but classy. Nice selection of beer and cocktails. The 3 mahi mahi tacos were very flavorful and came with a side of chips and salsa. The Carolina chicken sandwich and fries were okay. It could use a better bun. It was one of those cheap hamburger buns and it was a little dry. The fries were thicker and dry. Not a total bust though. If I was making purchasing decisions I would find replacements for the buns and fries. The atmosphere was nice, the chairs were comfortable and there was enough space between the tables. As it started to get busy the sound was getting to have a lot of clatter and echoes. I'm sensitive to that but not everyone is. So it may not bother you. It is close to the train station so that is a plus.
It is your typical business lunch or happy hour place downtown. But instead of greasy deep fried buffet, you can have nicely prepared steaks and tacos along with nice array of cocktails or beer. It is also a good place to stop before the show at Lyric Opera, which is only steps away. I would imagine it could also be a good stop for those who jump on Metra before heading home for suburban folks.
This is a wonderful spot, right on the river, with fantastic food. Amberly took wonderful care of us, she was attentive, friendly, patient (we were very indecisive about menu items… but only because so many delicious selections), and helpful. Will definitely be back!
Michaela was amazing serving our large group in the private room. We appreciate her care, candor, and recommendations for food and drinks!! Kudos to Michaela for making our Argo party amazing!!
Fantabulous ambience both indoor and outdoor with a good spread of options available for vegetarians and non-vegetarians makes it an idle place for a lunch get together near the workplace. Their service could have been slightly faster as it took longer than usual for the Strawberry lemonade.
Lunch hours get super busy hence plan accordingly if you are visiting between 11:30-1:30 local time.
Food tastes good and has a decent portion to share.
