First of all, I enjoyed the beer again and again and again. The favorite was the mushroom soup. It brought back memories from 30 years ago, it was very, very good. Also, to recommend are the potato pancakes and Beef Stroganoff. Later had coffee and next time I will have the cake. Thank you for great food and great service.

Great food, especailly soups! Real polish food so if you’re missing Poland or just want to try it for the first time-it’ll be the best choice. Large portions at an affordable price

First time in Chicago and knew I wanted some good Polish food as a fellow Pole. This place really hit the mark and service was impeccable. We had the potato pancakes, polish sausage and ground pork schnitzel. All of it tasted homemade and good quality. Made me a little emotional. We had the “polish drink” too which was so refreshing and tasty! Please give this place a try if you are in town. The decor is so beautiful and well done. We came out from California and were not disappointed!

Great place with authentic food. It is very cozy. The sausages are smoking tasty. My polish drink cocktail is very good too. And the waitress is so nice and friendly.

An amazing little taste of Poland. So many dishes and tastes to try, one can quickly find themselves over ordering. Highly recommend multiple visits just to enjoy everything. The meals are very hearty and presented with care. I highly recommend trying the Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka as well! Also, the staff are wonderful and accommodating.

Update:
We came back for the rest of the menu, and I must say, nothing disappointed. The veal meat ball is to die for. My first bite was like a party in my mouth. This is a must try. The pierogi is also quite good. I wish they offer the pan fried version that would be awesome!

We haven’t had Polish food for quite sometime, watching DDD the other day reminded us the goodness of potato pancakes, pierogi and stuffed cabbage. So we stopped by on a Sunday night to get our fix.
We have had Polish food both in the states and in Europe, to us, this place represents the true meaning of Polish comfort food. It is far from gourmet because it is not meant to be, simple ingredients and simple taste with great value. And yes some of the dishes can be made easily with a microwave, but that is not the point of eating out no?
The food came quickly given it wasn’t busy, the sausages with onions were great and the potato pancakes were simply exceptional, I would have to say it is probably the best that I have ever tasted. The beef stew was ok, tender beef, especially love the dumplings. The stuffed cabbage was great, the rice and meat was cooked just right, and the sauce compliments. The schnitzel was the most tender I have tried and it was fried to perfection. However I was hoping there is a bit more flavor in the meat.
Over all, great place, good service, great value will surely come back for the pierogi and the duck!

Good Polish restaurant. Featured photo: zucchini pancakes. Other delicious dishes are beef stew, pierogi, soups. Check out the drink menu. Save room for dessert.

Super cozy spot with super cozy food. I’m no connoisseur of Polish food, but I was really happy with everything we ordered - cabbage rolls (such tender cabbage and meat with luscious tomato sauce), zucchini pancakes (great caraway flavor, crisp and chewy similar to a Korean pancake), herring in oil, pierogi (spinach was quite flavorful and well packed), and multiple soups! The sour rye soup was really unique, both creamy and sour, and the mushroom soup tasted like it was made from scratch with tender little dumplings in it.
The apple cake was lackluster with undercooked puff pastry, but the sauce and apples were still tasty.
I can’t wait to go back and try more things!

It says a lot if restaurant has almost full seating in an hour after opening on Memorial Day. Best place to have some taste of polish cousine!

The atmosphere was wonderful and the way they have their decorations set up is beautiful as well. I’m polish myself and honestly the food was pretty good, We had the special for two which was $34 and it was a big plate of food. Including kielbasa, pierogi, gulasz, potato and pancakes! It was almost too much for two!
We also had the shrimp appetizer and zucchini pancakes which were amazing! 10/10 recommend

Love this place. The food is great and the service is good. The drinks are fantastic! We created our own with their flavored vodka as a base and they were great! I like the chicken Kiev but they call it something else. Cucumber salad is like grandma’s. Wish they had boiled potatoes.

Great ambiance, staff was super friendly. We split the “dinner for two” platter which I would highly recommend! The potato pancakes, sausage mix and golabki werre great. The pierogis were okay but not the star. We also got the kolazcki for dessert—they were good but I think the apple cake would have been better

My party got many plates to share, and everything was well-balanced and delicious! The quality of each dish was high, and I truly can't say that there was anything that lacked compared to other dishes we tried. Superb service, amazing food, fair price, and a comfy, cozy atmosphere.

Staropolska Restaurant is an absolute gem in Chicago! I recently had the pleasure of dining there, and it's safe to say it's the best Polish food I've ever tasted. This place is like a delicious secret waiting to be discovered. The Hunter Stew I ordered not only satisfied my taste buds but also worked wonders on a hangover that I thought would never go away. If you're looking for authenticity and mouthwatering flavors, Staropolska is the perfect spot. A solid 5-star dining experience that I can't wait to repeat!

EXCELLENT Polish food. This is the best that my family has experienced in Chicago. Very tasty dishes and not the run-of-the-mill food. Highly recommend. We will go back.

Went to Staropolska with some Polish friends while I was in Chicago. We were very impressed with both the service and the quality food, which was authentic Polish cuisine. Servings are large so I suggest you come hungry!

Had the Polish plate, and it was simply the best. Have never had sauerkraut that good anywhere else. I moved away from Chicago 21 years ago, and had fond memories of this restaurant when it was over on Belmont. I was not disappointed, and it was the best damn food I've had on this trip home. That's saying a lot considering how good so much of the food is here in Chicago.

As someone who's grown up on Polish food since I could walk, you won't find any better in the city. It's usually never that crowded inside but lately I feel like the secret is out. It's definitely worth a visit.

Now if you've never had Polish food before let me tell you what my wife and I tend to get whenever we go. Start with a beer. Zywiec or Tyskie preferably. Start with a bowl of Zurek soup. It's this amazing sour soup with sausage and egg. It's definitely unique and worth a try. If you like potato pancakes you're in luck, I really love the Hungarian pancakes here. They're just like regular potato pancakes except covered in this meaty stew with peppers and onions. My wife goes with a classic pork cutlet or a breaded tenderloin basically. Covered with a mushroom sauce you can't go wrong. Also notable here are the Pierogi of course. I get the ruskie with potato and cheese while my wife likes the strawberry the best. No matter what way you go you'll be happy and full though. A great way to sample is the special for 2. You get to try a polish feast and I bet you'll still be taking food home.

Staropolska is a great way to try a cuisine many people might not be familiar with. I didn't even mention that the decor is kinda neat as everything as a nice rustic look to it. Can't recommend this place enough.

Just right!. Hate to invoke the grandma reference again, but it fits. We were looking for a solid homestyle Polish meal, and that's what we got. It was a good sign when the pretty and friendly waitress is chatting in Polish to some regular customers! We had the dinner for two, a huge platter of favorites, all very very good! Nice location and atmosphere. An excellent meal, friendly service, huge portions and reasonably priced, what else do you want! We will be back on our next Chitown visit! (And do yourself a favor and walk down a block to Kurowski's Sausage Shop before or after and pick up some excellent kielbasas of various kinds.)

My Grandmother Would Have Loved It. We visited our daughter this Easter (2014) and ordered the Family Dinner. Well, it was great! The food was really better than very good, and more than enough for the four of us (We took some home!). Each main dish tasted like real authentic Polish cooking and the soup, potato pancakes, cucumbers, beets, and bread - Fantastic ! Add the dessert and we could honestly say that it was an Easter meal that not only met but exceeded all of our expectations. Service was friendly, efficient, and polite - each person had a smile as authentic as the food! Thank you Staropolska - wish I could take you back to NJ!

A great place. We decided to make a Polish themed visit to Chicago so after visiting Polonia bookstore and the Polish museum, we went to Staropolska. the food was great. We had the combination plate for two and we loved the pirogies and dumplings. We will go back every time we are in chicago.

Great Polish Restaurant!. I've never had Polish food and I've heard great things about this place. I went with my girlfriend and the Polish plate had a great variety of different Polish food and the service was great. Also, it's really affortable.

Delicious, authentic food at good price. I am native polish and this is the place I go when craving polish flavors and cusine. I am also a culinary student so I know food. Fresh, well done, classical polish dishes. I recomend soups, especially chicken bullion with kolduny ( type of polish meat dumpling), Flaczki ( tripe soup) and mushroom soup is always a treat. For meat lovers, try beef tatar done polish way! Also big veal cutlet, nice and delicate. Choice of potatos ( 3 or 4) different ways and selection of surowki (side salads made form all kinds of veggies). Anything that is polish on the menu is great, stay away from not polish dishes which they do have few on they menu. Don't know why. Restaurant has nice decor. Two thumps up!!! from Warsaw Girl.

Smacznego!. Totally authentic Polish food that is well prepared and super tastey. I loved the "Old Poland" atmoshphere with the exposed brick and timbers. I lived in Poland for a couple of years and Staropolski really took me back there. Be sure to visit the attached deli and pick up some European chocolate and Lion bars. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to taste authentic Polish food or anyone looking for a great dining experience!
