I've been here a dozen times and have never, ever been disappointed. From the loaded guacamole with jicama and pomegranate seeds to the intensely smoked carne asada and savory chipotle shrimp dish with grilled cactus salad, I couldn't be more satisfied with this place (spot on red snapper, too!). The house margaritas are fantastic but get the blood orange when in season (early spring). I had the prickly pear margarita recently and it was FANTASTIC!!
The wait staff couldn't be friendlier and do everything they can to ensure you have the best experience possible. I always see the owner making the rounds greeting customers which is always a nice touch.
This place is worth the trip no matter where in the city you live. Highly recommended!!

Probably the best authentic Mexican I've had here in Chicago! I just moved to the neighborhood a few days ago, and thanks to a running buddy who told me about Más allá del Sol, I celebrated the move at this lovely establishment. Oh my golly, the entire experience [the welcome at the host stand (the stellar hostess welcomed me as if she’s known me for a long time and even though this was my first time at Más allá del Sol, she gathered she must remember me from a former location owned by the same people, Los Nopales!! I was blown away she remembered me from my visits there!), our waiter and the service, the margaritas, the food, the ambiance, etc.] were phenomenal! The best authentic Mexican food I’ve had in Chicago, and anywhere for that matter! I had the chicken enchiladas (suiza) and the blood orange margarita. The enchiladas (and the rice and beans) were out-of-this-world! Nothing was dry, like Mexican food can sometimes be. So much flavor and absolutely delicious! I found so many menu items I cannot wait to go back and try! Oh, and that blood orange margarita!!! Heaven!!!
Pricey. Shocked that we didn't get tortillas with any of our meals. Mango frozen margarita not up to par, but still drank it. The food was cooked to perfection and well plated. We all got something different no complaints, very filling so we didn't need to order dessert. Will definitely recommend you to go. Agua de horchata hands down the best.
The very best house margaritas in the city (seriously) and the food is top notch. Plus, the staff are so friendly. Always happy when warm weather rolls around since we live on the opposite side of the city but make a point to visit the restaurant a few times a year - it is absolutely worth the trek. Met friends here last night and it was no exception. Muy excelente!
The best Mexican place in Chicago!!! Super delicioso! Customer service was more than 100 stars!!!!! Food was authentic, beautiful food presentation. I would recommend the whole world to come and enjoy Mas alla Del sol!!!
Love this place! The food and the staff are wonderful. The margaritas are the best in the city try the blood orange or the cucumber margarita. The food is not your usual Mexican cuisine, it's so much more!
I love the menu here because it has a lot of seafood and is the only Mexican place I’ve ever been too that serves seared scallops, which is one of my favorite dishes. The sauce underneath the scallops is so good, chipotle sauce I think. Also the drinks are great. I love the margaritas here. Watermelon marg is my favorite.
Been coming here for more than a year. The staff is amazing, the food fantastic and the margs killer. Highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood!
Absolutely loved it! Not your typical Mexican restaurant, the menu is excellent with so many options, the service is great and the food was amazing. We got Costellas and Lamb Shank and was the best meal I've ate out in awhile.
Great food and great staff. The food was amazing great flavors and meat was cook perfect. Staff was very attentive to us and all other customers. A big plus having owners going table to table and talking with everyone. Definitely will return and recommend.
The carne asada is spectacular, the house mole makes a difference. Salsa has a nice little bite to it. Service is great, outdoor seating, what more could you ask for?
First time eating here...everything was amazing!!! The food, the restaurant itself, and the wait staff...All amazing!!! Darcy, our waitress, was beyond nice and did such an awesome job taking care of us. Will definitely be going back.
I've never had a bad meal here. The staff is all quite nice. The margs are good. What more could you ask for in a Mexican restaurant?! And their family recipe molé is wonderful!
Very Impressed!! Fun Margaritas and food was excellent. Atmosphere was comfortable and waitstaff were nice and accommodating. Strongly recommend and will be back again.

I recently dined at Mas Alla Del Sol restaurant, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. The staff displayed incredible attention, particularly towards my grandmother and parents, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The food was not only delicious but surpassed expectations, with standout cocktails adding to the delightful experience. The nachos, in particular, are a must-try—forget the ordinary, these are a flavorful departure that alone justifies the one-hour drive to this wonderful establishment. The genuine care extended to my family made the visit truly special, and for that, we are immensely grateful.
I typically come to this restaurant quite often. Their tampiqueña is EVERYTHING! Best in Chicago thus far. I’ve been to many restaurants to try out their tampiqueñas and none of them are as good as theirs. The salsa they offer with the tortillas chips I find it to be so spicy, but yet so good! I find myself always ordering more and more of it. Can’t get enough. I was here on 09/23/23. Our server was Alberto C. He really surprised me! Great service! He kept coming to our table to make sure we were doing good. I didn’t even have to flag him down to ask for anything because he was on it! Never had anyone in any restaurant I been to come and pick up the drinks from the table to clean under the cup. He took customer service to another level! I will make sure that when I come back I make sure I request him to be my server.
The lighting was a little bright, but the noise level was good for talking and having good conversation. Loved the salsa. It is habanero in it do beware. Everything we had was delicious. My wife got the lank shank. It was so tender and juicy. I got the salmon, and it did not disappoint. The margaritas we sweet and not that strong, but they were tasty. The size of the margaritta flight was a little disappointing. Our service was excellent, and the waitress was helpful and attentive.
Prices are higher than your normal Mexican restaurant, but so worth it. Top notch Mexican cuisine here! Authentic and the margaritas are fabulous!!!!! Highly recommend! Stop reading and go!!!!

The food is delicious. The staff is kind and at your disposal. The drinks need some work. The margaritas were watered down and very little flavor. If that is worked out the place would be perfect. Loved the outdoor seating option.
I was really impressed with Mas Alla del Sol! The restaurant is large and spacious, and has an atmosphere that is casual and friendly yet upscale. The full bar is awesome, and the food is excellent. This is definitely a place to come if you want high-quality mexican -- this isn't the place for cheap $4 tacos. I absolutely look forward to coming back many times in the future!

This place is SO GOOD!!
Had an delicious brunch here with my family and a friend who is from the neighborhood. Sat outside on the patio which was lovely and perfectly complemented by a watermelon margarita. Everything we ordered was delicious from the Chilaquiles Verdes and the Asada Tacos, but the Mole was the true star of the show (I regret not getting a picture). Service was fast and friendly too.
I feel like I ought to mention that there's a great beach within walking distance as well. Really, what's not to like!
I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area!
