Make sure you have deep pockets. Great for client entertainment and expense accounts. Quality ingredients used throughout the menu both food and cocktails are reflected in the pricing.
Highly level execution and flavors. You can always saddle up to the bar and order a delicious lobster roll. If you are a seasoned gourmand, you will appreciate GreenRiver.
Good food and service. Not cheap, but not outrageous. Located on a veranda of a Northwestern medical building in the heart of Streeterville. Expansive views east, south, and west. Been twice and enjoyed it.
Significant drawback alert: service on the veranda ends in the evening around 8. That means self-service by heading inside to get drinks and schlep them back outside. That got old at night. Service outside is sketchy even when open.
Significant drawback alert 2: entire veranda closes too early.
This was my first experience at this restaurant and the location is tricky. I was greeted by a great host staff and sat right away. The place was empty for a Saturday. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. The ambiance was nice and the view of the city was limited by its location but i got a few good shots. The choices of the food was a little limited and the portions where a little small for the price. The taste was good but i had the Spaghetti the clams overpowered the taste of the pasta. But overall a good experience.
GreenRiver is on the 18th floor of the Northwestern Medical building. The decor is warm and elegant, and surprisingly spacious, with a feeling of both old and new styles. The dishes were vibrant, with a distinctive French inspiration. Cauliflower & endive gratin contained fresh apples and plenty of melty gouda, creating a hearty and balanced dish. The marinated carrots were improved dramatically by a bevy of purees that's added citrus, sweetness, and depth to the smoky and delicate carrots. Finally, the risotto with oven roasted broccoli was well executed. The char on the broccoli contrasted with the salty and rich mimolette both in texture and flavor. The cocktails were tremendous and varied, ask your server for suggestions.
THE complete dining experience. GreenRiver is mixes mixology with five star cuisine and an exceptional dining service. We had the risotto and pork collar and they were incredible. Never experienced so many flavor contrasts that perfectly complement each other. Portion sizes were also not super small stereotypical Michelin Star dishes. For sure go to this place!
Tip - Get the steak for two. You don't think you need it but you do.
Oddly positioned in downtown but this isn't the touristy or business minded restaurant that is typically downtown. We love the cocktails and I can say without a doubt that the steak for two ranks up there as my top 3 steaks - and I eat steak!
One of my favorite spots to eat in the city by far. They have a stunning view and the only thing better than the view may be the cocktails.
We celebrated my mom's birthday last night and had exceptional service from our server and the entire staff. Special shout out to Justin! The food was amazing. Loved the octopus appetizer. We shared the trout, saffron spaghetti and the cheeseburger which were great as well as all the desserts. You have to try this place!
Green River offers one of the better cocktail lists in Chicago, and the dining area is upscale, trendy and yet intimate. The approach, through long hospital-like corridors is a bit weird, but once there you can settle in and enjoy some interesting small plates and a lot of cocktails.
One word of caution is that wine offerings are pretty limited, so it’s definitely a cocktail place. I liked that there were a lot of choices that weren’t overly sweet.
Food was good, even if there were no real home runs. Service was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Beautifully located on the 18th floor of the building and that gives me the opportunity to view through Lake Michigan.
I feel like this place was trying very hard to impress when its greatest assets are its view and its cocktails. No need for a deconstructed tiramisu-- you could sell hot dogs at this location and it would draw people in. Also this place is listed as of now as a "two dollar sign" location, and it is definitely three. Quite expensive for a casual dinner. Come for a cocktail with a view. Leave the rest unless you are just accustomed to paying this much for good, but not exceptional, food.
Fabulous service. Cocktails were impeccable and they created a special dish just for me without hesitation (I have food allergies). Taylor the bartender made our experience personal and made us feel like celebrities.
I love this place! One of the most, if not THE most, comprehensive cocktail lists in the city. Don't know what you like to drink? No problem! Their servers will help you. They even keep track of what you like for the next time you visit.
Highly worthy of the 1 star (Michelin Guide). Very good service (knowledgeable of the food, cocktail and wine) and great tasting food. A little hard to find (wasn't obvious from the street level), but once inside, we were transported to joyful place.
Awesome friendly service. We came in with sneakers and backpacks, traveling, while everyone else is upscale business casual, suits but theu were totally cool. Awesome lake and city views. Nice wine and beer selection. Will return!
