Review Luke's Italian Beef - Chicago

Joseph Weseloh (WeselJoe)
I have been to Luke's twice in my life; once in March of 2019 and again in December 2023. If you are looking for a great Hot Italian Beef Sandwich, this is the spot. Prices are extremely reasonable, menu selection is excellent (though admittedly I never make it past the hot beef with the spicy peppers) and the taste is out of this world. No frills, definitely not fancy, but it doesn't have to be. I will ALWAYS make a point to come here when I'm in Chicago. 10/5 stars, you won't be disappointed ❤️

Went in for a quick bite while waiting for my train back home at the LaSalle station. Service is good, pizza was delicious, super cheesy and pricing was reasonable! 10/10 would eat here again!

This is my go-to place for the Italian beef sandwich when I visit chicago. It's not much in terms of fancy, but who cares they have incredible Italian beef sandwiches that are so dripping wet that you can barely get the paper off them to eat it. Flavor is spot on, and you definitely want to order it all the way or at least Luke's way. There are definitely other great Italian beef places like owls, but if you're down in the South Loop, I highly recommend going to Luke's on Jackson.

"I've heard that Chicago has a variety of renowned sandwiches. Of all of them, I was most intrigued by the Italian beef sandwich. Trying it at Luke's Italian Beef was definitely the right decision. The sandwich was packed with juicy meat, and the peppers added just the right taste, striking a perfect balance of flavors. I believe many Koreans would like this sandwich. Thank you for the delightful meal :)"

Came here at opening time (10am), and after 10 minutes there's already a crowd! I got the Italian Beef sandwich, with peppers and chilis. The beef serving was super generous, and the beef itself was lean and umami tasty. Peppers added a kick of spice to the complex flavor profile. The sandwich is on the oily side - be cautioned. Really enjoyed this and will be back!

A must experience if you're visiting downtown Chicago. Cashier was super friendly, the food was spot on. Prices are reasonable, too. I wish I would have added the Italian Sausage to the Italian Beef. Either way, you'll enjoy it!

Italian beef sandwich was excellent, though the hot pepper choice was really hot. Would elect half sweet half hot next time. Went back again the next day to try a Chicago style hot dog and that was as good as other leading places in Chicago. The bowl of chilli was only ok.

Great food, had Italian beef, slice of pepperoni, and Chicago dog! All great and GREAT PRICES! And the fries, WOW they are McDonalds fries but actually better 👍👍 Loved the atmosphere, very cool and classic. Highly recommend.

I went to the Skydeck in the nearby Sears (ahem, Willis) Tower and was hungry afterwards, so my gf and I stopped by Luke’s. We both grabbed a Chicago style hot dog. It was a damn good hot dog. Definitely a local thing to try if you’re visiting Chicago and happen to be in the Loop.

Never had a Italian beef sandwich before. I hope all future attempts will measure up to this one. Dipped with sweet papers. Use all the napkins you need. Solid fries.

My experiences here has always been good. Their Italian Beef is phenomenal - it's big, juicy, and has reasonable amount of dip on it. Priced well and service is always fast and efficient. Their Chicago Dog is not bad either and their fries are usually pretty crispy and hot. Their chili is awesome - it's weirdly creamy but they make it work, and it has enough chunk to still feel like chili. The restaurants decor is very old fashioned and definitely has an old "Chicago" feel to it, so take that as you will (I personally like it but I can understand if people don't). Overall Luke's hits the spot!

Italian beef was awesome! Chicken Parm was huge and the bread fit the whole thing. Cool vibe across from Willis Tower.

Classic beef with hot peppers, Luke’s way. Fast and delicious. I always stop here coming out of Union Station on the way to the Ele to Midway. Nice people and great beef sandwich. Good price.

One surprising thing about Luke’s is that our order was ready before we even sat down. It wasn’t very busy, but I have to say it because even then, it was surprisingly quick. The Chicago dog was great! I also got the beef sandwich with mozzarella and sweet peppers. You must get the cheese sauce side if you get the beef sandwich. I realized that half way through the sandwich. Warning: the beef made the bread soggy pretty quick. If soggy bread is not your jam then avoid that sandwich. It doesn’t bother me that much and I loved the sandwich.

I recently visited Luke's Italian Beef in Chicago and I must say, it was an amazing experience. The Italian beef was simply delicious and one of the best I've ever had. The juicy, tender meat combined with the spicy and flavorful gravy made for a mouth-watering sandwich. I also tried their pizza and it was fantastic. The crust was crispy and the toppings were fresh and delicious. The staff at Luke's was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, with a relaxed and casual atmosphere. I felt like I was dining with family and friends, rather than at a restaurant. Overall, I highly recommend Luke's Italian Beef for anyone visiting Chicago. The food is delicious and the staff is fantastic. It's no wonder why this place has been a favorite among locals for so many years. If you're in the mood for a great Italian beef sandwich or pizza, be sure to stop by Luke's. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

My go to place for Italian beef. The spice they put on the beef is amazing! Perfect place to stop by for a quick slice of pizza. My only complaint is that they don't serve Pizza Puffs. Every Chicago spot needs Pizza Puffs. Customer service is great and they are super quick.
