Review Imperial Lamian - Chicago

I saw this place in a post on Eater and wanted to try it because of the colorful soup dumplings and unique desserts. I was worried that it might not live up to the hype, but it was incredible! The different flavors of the soup dumplings were all delicious (spicy, cheese, truffle, crab, pork, and duck), and the Jasmine tea ribs were tender with a great texture, but had a unique smoky flavor that I'm not used to. We ordered the lotus blossom for dessert and were treated to a nice show. The dessert itself was so satisfying, I definitely could have had another one. Im so happy with my experience here!

I had a nice experience here last week. I came here on a Thursday evening around 7 and was seated without having a reservation. The atmosphere is nice- casual yet classy vibe with nice music and appropriate lighting. Our waiter was great - he was bale to recommend his favorites as well as the most popular dished on the menu. We ended up ordering the steamed buns, the xiao long bao sampler, and shrimp fried rice. All were great - would definitely come back!

Excellent Chinese restaurant in the loop. Excellent service as well, the staff couldn't have been any better. Dim sum is awesome, rainbow dumplings would great and the fried rice and spring rolls were excellent as well. Ending the night with the Lunar Blossom was perfect.

Made a reservation here for a celebration dinner. The atmosphere is amazing. I loved the decor. I recommend trying the xiao baos and ending the meal with the lunar blossom dessert. The staff were friendly and kind. I would love to come back and try other things on the menu.

Absolutely amazing dumplings! You can watch the chef making dumplings from scratch. There’s another chef making hand pull noodles as well. No doubt the best dim sum in Chicago, San Francisco and New York Chinatown. Service was excellent. However, dinner was a little bit disappointing. The roast duck was quite ordinary, not the Peking style roast duck but the cheaper Cantonese cousin. Yet, it wasn’t cheap. For a quarter duck with sauce and pancakes, that’s $30. Comparing to New York price - $80 for the whole duck Peking style, that’s overpriced especially in Chicago. Other dinner dishes are ok but not amazing. Better to come here for lunch dim sum.

Nice spot for Asian classics and some modern twists. I brought my friends here for their soup dumplings. We ordered them classic ones the red sejuan ones and the green duck ones. They were pretty good with enough soup inside to make it interesting. The biggest surprise of the evening was the noodle soup with short rib. Will for sure order that again next time.

Delicious food and great decor. I do wish they'd upgrade their dishware because that felt too cheap compared to the quality of their food. The egg custard buns and soup dumplings were absolutely perfect. We also saw a chef give a small child noodle dough so they could mime pulling noodles while he pulled noodles actually. It gave me a warm feeling.

We went on December 25 for our annual Jewish Christmas celebration. The Lamian noodles are made to order and we were able to watch the process through the glass window. It was a really great meal; I can't wait to go back. I crave the beef fried Lamian noodles now everyday. The egg yolk greens beens were amazing. The egg yolk was like a tempura crust on the beans! The dumplings exploded delicious in my mouth. And the wontons were soaked in amazing brown liquid love. So so good.

What an amazing place, loved it. We were roaming around hubbard and found out this place, luckily we got the reservation ( since its pandemic time). They accomodated us very well, victor was very informative and kind. We had sapporo beer, Beef and chicken, smoky noodles ( lamian), chilli chicken , kung pao chicken and dumplings! Everything was just perfectly cooked and delicious. Definitely definitely recommend. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

What a fantastic spot for dim sum! We stopped in Monday for lunch and were treated to stellar food and service. We were a party of 3 seated right away (no wait) and our server immediately greeted us with waters. She explained the menu and how things worked. We ended up ordering 4 different dumplings and 4 other dim sums of all different varieties including mushroom, gruyere, truffle (like real truffle not truffle oil truffle), szechuan, bao, etc. Basically 4 different dumplings and 4 different dim sums. Everything was amazing though the truffle dumplings were my favorite. I will be back to try other things too!!

The waiter was very attentive. He did a great job in giving menu suggestions. (Since it was my first time at the restaurant) The food looks like it's made fresh because it does take a bit for the waiter to bring it out. One can see the employees making the dumpling. I recommend the taro puffs, the pumpkin puffs, and the soup dumplings. The flavours are very rich. Make sure to come on a payday because one can spend over $20. They do have Happy Hour Monday-Friday after 3pm. Check out their online website. :) Enjoy!

Went to a yelp event at Imperial Lamian. This is their first restaurant in the US, and are actually from Jakarta Indonesia. Having never been there before, I looked forward to sampling some of the items that they offer. We feasted on pumpkin puffs, spring rolls, crispy shrimp wonton, and vegetable dumplings. As well as some really wonderful noodles and fried rice. I don't normally like anything pumpkin, but these Pumpkin puffs were really good. My favorites were the noodles and the crispy shrimp wonton. We also watched as they demonstrated how they actually pull the noodles, and were able to meet the owner and manager of Imperial Lamian. Unfortunately, I did not get to stay to try the deserts, but I am sure they were just as good as the other food. Although we didn't get to taste food from the regular menu, I did notice that the prices were at least double what you would pay in a normal Chinese restaurant.

In atmosphere. Warm welcoming. However our server quite judging. All people in my table are black hair. She ignored us always. I wanted to let her know that mama I live in Chicago. I work in Chicago. I also a server. So please don't judging us. I know how to tip. She stare at the wall while taking our orders. Meanwhile nice to all the less of the tables in her section. Busboy always there to make sure our table is well maintained. After tried to look at here and tried to sent signals to let her know we wanted her attention (hey not all Asian will wave at you. We live here. I serve in downtown too) Ended up missing 2 off our order and that was it. Manager helped us out. I saw her red eyes. Sorry girl, I felt bad but not so much. It's our job as a server to treat everyone equally.

So good I had to go back a second time in one trip! Very cool atmosphere. The rainbow soup dumplings (xiao long bao) are divine. Smaller than I expected, but excellent nonetheless. The golden sesame balls were delicious, as well. Can’t go wrong with any of their lamian options: the mix mushroom and beef & wonton lamian were both amazing. The chicken fried rice, however, was lacking in flavor—not my favorite. There are many standout dishes to try, and being that the fried rice was underwhelming, I would suggest exploring the other options.

Great service & must try soup dumplings + everything else pictured in this post! The Szechuan dumplings were our favorite but definitely try the others. Wonton soup was good, the broth tasted similar to miso. Simple but hearty! Chicken Lamien, hot - fresh noodle, you could tell they were fresh and good quality! Crispy wontons were good, can’t say it was anything “special” but a good snack. London Duck—Crispy shredded duck, with cucumbers, and a stack of the wraps. It comes as a build your own wrap kind of dish. Highly recommend ordering chili’s/chili oil on the side if you like it spicy! Must try, definitely go visit!

Cold noodles taste good, but the orange duck shredded the roof of my mouth, the lining literally shredded off! Everything else was great. I came for dim sum, the selection was okay for the type of upscale Chinese dining experience. The har gaw is a must! But I need to find a better dim sum place in Chicago.

I was visiting Chicago for the week and walked by this place, I was not disappointed either. It is easily the best food I had while in town. My waitress gave lots of recommendations and even showed me how to eat soup dumplings. This will be the first place I visit for dinner when I'm in town again.

Loved the deep flavor profiles of the jasmine smoked pork ribs & the lamb with cumin was yummy. We shared two apps & should have shared one entree - especially if you decide to add sides of rice (so so good-tea infused) or green beans (also good). Prices are consistent with the area so a bit pricey.

Great food! Tapas style, food presentation excellent, a bit expensive but I understand why. Our table top was a bit annoying since our plates would stick on top and be difficult to slide them over. Other than that service and food were perfect.

Wow! Never ate at a place like this before as I live in the boonies and have nothing even close to this. Had no idea how to order, or what to order, but our waiter guided us right through and we are like Queens! Soup dumplings, spring rolls, dim sum, kung pau chicken, everything was excellent! Luckily for a VIP table in front of the chefs!

The only place in Chicago making real xlb's. Great food, atmosphere and staff. When the lunch crowd is 90% "Chinese" you know it's good. The hell with authenticity!

Second visit for our date night and I love this place. Pork and broth dumplings(forgot the real name) were delicious! Green beans with Chinese olives and jasmine smoked ribs... could t get enough ! Couldn’t get a seat by the kitchen on the second visit but the quality of the food make up for it. Oh wait duck fried rice - awesome and I really don’t care for duck. Will come back again!

Great service, love the Yee Sang salads! Thanks to Malaysian Chef Alan Tan to bring this special dish to Chicago downtown!! Love the blossoms dessert that wow myself and my guest. Love the braised pork ramen too...

The best service, amazing food and just a wonderful place to dine in Chicago!

Fabulous food. Friendly staff. We had one issue with cilantro, but they were kind about it, so I'm not factoring it into my stars. I will be back. Some of the best and most flavorful dim sum I have had!

The food was really amazing. One of the best Chinese restaurant I have ever encountered. The service was great too. The Yang chaofan and the xiao long bao tasted heavenly! I will definitely come back if I ever visit Chicago again.

Good environment, nice staff, great food. I found it to be 4 star! Really reasonable, casual and tasty!.

I wish I could put five stars for this. I put four stars is because the waiter forgot that we ask for adding a boil egg in the lamian. But other than that, the service is great and food is good. It was my sister and my birthday. It is a great experience.

Amazing restaurant. Food was superb and the service was very good. Our waitress Allison is so great she was very informative about the menu and about the restaurant itself. Definitely high on our list of great Chicago restaurants.

There for corporate dinner in which menu was pre selected for us:(.. but the owner Vince although swamped and busy was able to turn my disappointment in to super satisfied!! The ribs were the best thing I had that evening :) Will try out on my own next time whenever I am back in town... I appreciate good customer service

The soup dumpling was good, not the best I’ve had. The lamian is freshly made and it was good. However, the soup could be little hotter (warm ). I will be back again.
