Went to this place for lunch, and it did not disappoint. The food was spectacular, and the drinks were delicious. We went during the day, so we weren't expecting much of the view on a Friday afternoon, but I imagine being out of the patio at night with the fires going makes the place even more incredible.
This was my first time here and it's located on the 5th floor. I sat at the bar. The food is above average and the drinks are great. Also, the service was really good. Overall, a nice little spot to have a drink or two.

Although we did not make it to the rooftop as rain occurred, we enjoyed a cocktail inside at the bar lounge. Great location, friendly staff.
The Bar at the Gwen hotel is an above average option for people in town wanting a drink, and a particularly good option for those staying at the hotel. Prices were high, but options were fairly varied and service was solid.
I made reservation to celebrate my bachelorette with my cousins and sister. It was a fantastic time! And I’m particular. Our server Michael was amazing. He was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The drinks were on point and delicious. The wings were finger-licking tasty. The ambiance was inviting, chill and lovely. The balcony of city views were dazzling. Even on a cold, frigid day in Chicago (20 degrees in March),the fire pits were warm enough to hang out and take photos for half a while. This is a spot for friend hangout, day dates, date night, etc. The prices are reasonable. The bathroom are impeccable and clean. There’s an abundance of space everywhere my head turn. When I’m in Chicago, I’ll return to Upstairs at the Gwen. It’s a worthwhile visit😀
The selection of food and drinks was very diverse. I want to go curling next time. Heads up it requires a reservation before going. Besides that it was a fun experience.
Such a fun experience dining here! We reserved for 2 a week in advance and had such a nice little spot on the rooftop on a comfortable couch and with places to kick up our feet and relax. Our food took awhile but it was fine- the environment was JUST what we wanted for a relaxed and romantic experience.
As for food, PLEASE get the flatbread, it’s amazing. They use real burrata cheese and every bite is just divine. Our charcuterie board was also delicious, but the crackers that it came with were a little stale so we asked for some sourdough bread and they comped it! They also comped our cocktails for free due to our food taking a little longer.
Overall, a magical experience.
Had a good breakfast after a night stay. Happy that they start early for early risers like me. Service was quick and the food good. Three omelette had tons of prosciutto and The breakfast sandwich had more ham then one could eat.Was sorry to weed out ham pieces so as to get other flavours. The wedge potatoes were a little extra too , who can eat so many fried wedges of potatoes in one go. Enjoyed my brekkie but wondered if those small white balls that looked like butter were real butter or Margarine. Just wondering.
There is nothing bad about this place. But then nothing stood out as being outstanding either. Food items were solid - particularly vegetables. Cocktails were good but not memorable. If the drinks are going to be close to $20 per drink, I should expect more. Same with desserts. It is a nice outdoor space. But in a city that is getting increasingly more rooftop and outdoor venues, this one does not stand out.
My wife and I has the most wonderful experience on Saturday evening 11-11-2023. Our server Michael was so professional and welcoming to us. I can truly say I look forward hosting private dining events there and recommend this restaurant. Thank you Michael you are amazing.
